I bought this set to make a Retropie as a gift for someone. The kit is very complete but many of the items would not be used in a Retropie setup. For instance, the keyboard, while useful for setup, is not needed once controllers are paired to the device and the sd card included with the kit is much to small to use for a Retropie setup. While I did manage to get the included power button to turn on the system, I have not figured out a way to get it to turn off the system. At the $119 price I got it for itis rather pricey but I applaud Kano for bringing this set to market so I didn’t mind to much.

Easy to assemble. 10 year old son needed no help following the easy to read instructions and had it built and hooked up to an old TV in about 15 minutes. Intro to computers and programming starts out game like and my son thought it's old 8-bit look was funny and cool. Wireless keyboard might be a little small even for a child, but not docking any points for such an overall cool product.

Great for children with a curiosity for technology. Not too difficult for child to assemble. This is definitely a great entry level tool for coding. You're not going have a coding wiz when they're done with this because it's not extremely deep in coding but this is a great gateway toy.

We bought this as a gift to our 5 year old daughter at a steal for $60.00. It is a bit advanced for her, but it's never too early to get them started into programming! It has, a story mode where you explorer the hardware of a computer, multiple apps that teach different computer programming skills and Minecraft Pocket Edition! This is definitely a gift for anyone interested in computers or programming!

Like a lot of people, Amazon has become my go-to for a lot of purchases with the free 2-day shipping being a big factor. We wanted to purchase the Kano build-it-yourself computer for our grandson and planned to buy it from Amazon when I found that the price had more than doubled in a few days. By using Google I was able to find it a Best Buy, purchase it on-line and pick it up the same day at the original price. Our grandson loves it (minecraft!) and we were reminded to start our shopping research locally first. I'm looking forward to make more purchases with Best Buy.

My four year old wanted to start coding, so we purchased the Kano for him. It is a Christmas present, so we had not opened it. The price went down for Black Friday, and the store associates gladly did an exchange/adjustment for me. My husband tried it last night and can’t wait to use it with our son. I read some bad reviews about the keyboards freezing, no problems with ours yet. We did however get Geek Squad protection just in case.

Just a little background. My son just turned 8 and he doesnt have a computer or tablet. So we bought this for his birthday and he loves it. Mainly for the minecraft portion. Putting the parts together took him about 5 to 10 minutes. The system teaches basic computer functions, language and logic. Theres a lot to do, from teaching typing (which I love, since he needs to learn that first) to manipulating the snake game, lights and playing those old DOS games where you decide the story. That being said, a parent should be next to the child to help them understand the "why" and explaining each of the code. They have a short blurb that tells you what to do, but doesnt explain very well what you're putting in means. And if they do explain, it's not very simple for my son. He tends to just follow along and then click next after finishing the exercise without thinking what he learned. So with some of the negatives, why did I give it 5 stars? Because it does everything it's supposed to do and is a great tool to teach your kids computer logic. Suggestion is to add more explanation for non computer folks. I believe my wife couldn't answer my sons questions on computer logic because shes never programmed in her life. To really get the most out of it, like any homework for your kids, be prepared to sit down with your kids and be ready to answer any questions and ask your child questions about what he or she learned and what each part of the code means and what would happen if you changed a 1 to 2 for example. As long as you as a parent commit to spending time with your kids, this is definitely worth the money.

Great item for kids to learn coding not too difficult and easy to learn.

Have purchased this kit for our grandson for Christmas. We bought it based on information my husband read in an article. Have not given it to him yet. The picture on the Best Buy website and other websites showed a Box, a keyboard and a monitor BUT when I went to pick up the package there was no monitor included. It was very misleading in the pictures.

This product introduces you to computing in various ways while allowing the user to modify and discover multiple modes and purposes of computing. The more effort you put into Kano the more you discover about computing and how the world operates. I recommend several.

Bought it for my grandson for Christmas so it's hidden in the closet still in wrap. But he's very noisy about wanting it and he's a 10 yr geek so it's most likely a very good product.

My son loves this, he is 7. A fantastic introduction to computer building and a whole lot of fun. Highly recommended.

My son will enjoy hours of learning with this computer kit. Everything is included but the monitor to get started.

Great way to introduce the basics of computing and allow kids to understand how apps/games are made. The only downside is the limited number of pre-included apps/games, would have been good to have other devs use as a platform to distribute educational games.

6 year old loves to build stuff. He was able to put this together with little help.
