Quick setup and support for hybrid energy systems

This is the third smart thermostat I've owned. Previous thermostats worked in one or more "walled gardens", but lacked support for others. I found the compatibility of this device to be one compelling reason to install yet another smart thermostat. The other compelling reason was support for hybrid HVAC systems. My home came with a gas furnace and outdoor HVAC that offers both heat pump and regular electric A/C. Each of the previous smart thermostats required me to abandon the efficiency that comes with the heat pump feature. While I didn't see a drop off in energy efficiency due to this sacrifice, I also didn't get the expected savings because of this trade off. The Emerson Sensi Lite offers compatibility with such hybrid systems, which I can already tell will mean savings on my monthly energy costs. While the A/C will kick on still now that summer is in full force, during evenings and well into the morning when outside air is still cool, the heat pump cools our home. Additionally, this unit enables me to turn on the whole house fan. I know this doesn't necessarily increase efficiency, but it does when you can exchange a point or two on the thermostat for increased air circulation. While some competitor models feature manual fan operation, I don't know of another that does so AND is compatible with so many smart home platforms. The installation was very simple, as people have come to expect with smart thermostats and smart home devices in general. It took about 10 minutes on the hardware and another few getting the software side setup. It looks great on the wall and I think it's smaller and more compact than the images might suggest. The display is bright, and whether interacting with the touchscreen display, the Sensi App, or the smart home platforms I've adopted, things couldn't be simpler. My preferred way is through Apple HomeKit, which enables Siri commands from various other smart home and/or mobile devices, though Alexa offers many of the same pluses, we just don't have many of those around the house. Given the number of available smart thermostats out there today, I'm glad there's now such an affordable, compatible device out there that doesn't sacrifice on really anything from a design and engineering perspective. Ultimately, Sensi Lite will be many people's ideal smart thermostat and really eliminates the tradeoffs some of the competitor devices require from users.

Good value in a remote controlled thermostat

I have an older wifi thermostat that has worked well, but it's very dated and the control panel is worn out, so when I found this Sensi model, I decided to give it a try. At first I was going to have my HVAC tech install it, but he has been so busy, I gave up and decided to tackle the job myself. The first thing I noticed is that there is very little documentation with the unit. There is a very small "overview" manual which is really more like marketing literature than an operations manual, and there was no installation manual. I finally found the manual on the Emerson website. Installation was not difficult, but the first thing I discovered is that the thermostat will not work properly until it has been added to the app and setup there. I downloaded the app on my phone which prompted me to create and account, which I did. And here's where I have to give this a 4-star instead of a 5-star rating. Creating an account requires both an email address and a phone number. I can understand the email address as it is used for the account login, but why I must give them my phone number makes no sense. Anyhow, after setting up the account and scanning the thermostat's QR code to add it to the app, I had it working. The app interface is clean and simple to use. It's responsive and I like the features it has like the filter/maintenance reminders. Overall, I like this thermostat. It looks good and works well. I do recommend it.

Quality thermostat from a solid brand

I’ve been using Sensi for the past 4-5 years, and I recommend them to anyone in the market for a smart Thermostat. The previous models worked great. They have all the functionality of the other brands, but at a much better price. The only thing that I wasn’t a big fan of the previous model, was the look which seemed a little outdated. Plus it never seemed to get an update after years of usage. I just moved houses a few months ago and bought another one, which looked identical from the one I had from years before. Cue the touch screen version. This one is smaller and more sleek, and adds a touch of a modern look to your home. This model was ideal compared to the big brother version as I dont have a C-wire (common wire) setup in my house. I’m skeptical about touch screens though as I’ve had my share of devices that aren’t responsive or required multiple touches to register a command. This one actually seems to work quite well though. ###Even though I use the app First the install was pretty straight forward, especially since I was replacing a Sensi. The one thing is, since this is a smaller unit, it was tougher to squeeze the cables together as you don’t have much room to store the wires behind the unit. This unit also takes AAA batteries vs the AA the older unit took, so hoping battery life still lasts for months. Once I got it installed and setup on the app, it was just like using the old version on the phone. It syncs with my Google Home and Samsung Smart Things which is great, and still gets the functionality of the older unit on this even with a smaller screen and less buttons. Since there are no buttons except for 3 touchscreen points, up/down/…(menu), it takes a little more navigating without the extra buttons, but no big deal since I use my app to control most of the settings. LCD is bright but not overly bright. Overall, I think its a good thermostat for your home and stand by their brand. Can’t beat the quality and price of Sensi.

I love having control of my home at the palm of my hands. From smart lights to garage door openers, it is great to be able to control things through my phone and smart speakers. The only thing that I have upgraded in my home was the HVAC system. Well, it has never been easier and more convenient to take control over your HVAC system. The Emerson - Sensi Lite Smart Programmable thermostat changed all of that and I am now able to control the heating and cooling in my home from just about anywhere. The installation process is very simple. Just find the appropriate wires behind your existing thermostat and make the connections to the Emerson - Sensi Lite Smart Programmable thermostat, and you will be up and running in no-time. There really isn't much to the hardwiring portion of the installation, but if you are not familiar with electrical connections and components, it might be best to leave it to a professional. After making the appropriate connections, download the app, connect the Emerson - Sensi Lite Smart Programmable thermostat to your home wifi, and you are good to go. I love being able to cool or warm my home from just about anywhere. I am able to come to a more comfortable home thanks to the Emerson - Sensi Lite Smart Programmable thermostat. If I forget to switch my cooling system off, I no longer have to worry and can do it from the palm of my hands. If you are in the market for a smart thermostat, look no further. The Emerson - Sensi Lite Smart Programmable thermostat has been great. I highly recommend it to anyone.

The Emerson Sensi Lite Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat that works with Alexa is a great addition to any home. The installation was a breeze, as the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. All it took was a screwdriver and about 10 to 15 minutes of my time. Once installed, the thermostat quickly connected to my home Wi-Fi network and synced with my Alexa devices. I love the convenience of being able to control the temperature of my home with just my voice. It's also great being able to adjust the temperature remotely through the Sensi app if I ever need to. The touchscreen display of the thermostat is easy to use, and the programming options are very flexible. I was able to set up different schedules for weekdays and weekends, and also make adjustments for when I'm away from home. The thermostat also provides helpful energy usage reports that allow me to see how much energy I'm consuming and adjust my habits accordingly. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the Emerson Sensi Lite Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat with Alexa. It was easy to install, very easy to use, and has helped me save energy and money in the long run. I would highly recommend this thermostat to anyone in the market for a smart and programmable thermostat.

Okay so PROS - Energy efficient - Monitors your HVAC system health - Super easy installation (the mobile app details this step by step) - No annoying C-wire is needed - Connects to wifi - Compatible with all the AIs (Alexa, Google Home, Smart Things app) - Remote home temp control (this is sooo helpful on vacations when we want the house to be a certain temperature when we arrive back.) - Tons of bells and whistles; easily customizable CONS -Occupancy sensor (For me this is a con because I prefer it just adjust according to my actions, not automatically adjust according to if it determines the room is occupied or not) - Doesn't work with Apple homecare; how do you only work with Alexa, SmartThings, but not Apple Homecare? This is worth a whole star reduction considering how standard Apple HomeCare is. While I am not the biggest fan of the occupancy sensor, I can appreciate geofencing for when I am leaving the house and when Im returning. I just don't like the time it takes to either heat or cool the house before I arrive. I want it to stay the desired temp all the time! :) In light of the few cons, I will leave this smart thermostat at a strong 4 stars.

This unit gets the job done although not as well thought out as some others, it does make automation and remote access possible through an app. This also may qualify you for a discount from your power company as well. You just need to be ok with them adjusting your temperatures remotely during peak hours. My power company ponies up a $75 Visa gift card - per year! Something to consider when factoring in the cost of the unit. Its very nice to be able to create temperature routines and monitor your houses temperature remotely. Furthermore, you can also schedule the heat or air to come on at a certain time so its comfortable when you get home from work. Installation was pretty straight forward although I have installed dozens of these so I might find it easier than others. I would say that even a novice could install this; they just need to follow the directions and YouTube is always there if you need further assistance. You can also control this unit with Alexa once you link your account. Its very nice to be able to use your voice to have Alexa turn on and off your thermostat.

Wow, I’m so glad I decided to switch/upgrade my thermostat to this Emerson - Sensi Lite Smart Programmable Wi-Fi Thermostat! I have it at our ranch cabin which is not our permanent home. I am able to program the HVAC from anywhere, anytime! I have often needed the heat to come on to protect pipes but since I live over 100 miles from the cabin I was not able to turn it on unless I drove out there. Now with the very user friendly app I can control all the settings when needed. I really like the reports I can get also-allows me to see my usage and how I can save $$. The reminders to change my air filters are so nice-I usually forget for months. The unit itself is very sleek looking in my wall and easy to use either at the unit itself or using the app. This new technology is soooo worth the upgrade! No more leaving the AC running while we are gone for weeks! The WiFi connectivity makes set up convenient and personal. I can name my unit so I know which one I controlling. A great investment at under $100 bucks!

I got this to replace my roughly 10 year old thermostat. While it could switch modes (heat/cool) automatically, it was larger and you couldn't read the screen at night unless you pressed a button to activate the light. I will say that I attempted to install the Sensi Lite as soon as I got it. However, I immediately noticed that even though it was on "cool" mode, my vents were blowing heat. I first attempted to look for a reason and a fix. My old thermostat has a jumper wire which the Sensi says that you don't need. Also, while the instructions recommended taking a picture of your previous thermostat for easier installation, the letters were different on the Sensi. However, with that said, I still wired it correctly. As it was late, I just removed it and reinstalled my old thermostat. I tried again a couple of days later when I knew I would have a chance to call customer support if I needed to. They asked me to send a picture of my wiring, which was confirmed to be correct. He instructed me to go into the menu by holding the three dots (nothing in the directions about this). I did and made sure that it was set to heat pump and I changed the "o" setting to the "b" setting. He told me to try that and call them back in a half hour if it didn't work. I was still getting heat while set to cool. I called them back and they walked me through some more steps of switching back to the "o" setting and then back to the "b" setting. This time it worked and it has been performing flawlessly since then. I will say that it is much smaller than my old thermostat (which is great), and being black, it doesn't stand out as much on the wall which is a tan color. One great thing is that the screen is always on and that it is not bright enough to be distracting. The app is great. It shows the current temperature setting, as well as the humidity level. The app allows you to set schedules so you can have it at a different temperature while you're away, and have the temperature back to where you want it before you arrive home. You can have a programmed schedule (based on times), or a geofencing schedule, which sets your thermostat back 3 degrees when you get 3 miles from home. The app also allows you to set maintenance reminders. I set it to every 30 days to remind me to change the filter. You can also set an HVAC maintenance reminder if you call someone out to service your HVAC system yearly. While I was initially frustrated at first with the installation, their customer service is fantastic and had the problem solved quickly. Overall, I definitely recommend the Sensi Lite.

The Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat application is a quick download from your application store. You will need to download the application to install the thermostat. Following the directions of the application the installation is quick and easy to complete. The Sensi Lite Smart Thermostat comes with the necessary parts to install, 2 screws and 2 plastic expandable inserts. You may need to predrill 2 small holes for the inserts. Once you have completed installing the unit on the wall you can begin with the set-up. Following the installation guide on the application set-up is completed easily. There are controls on the thermostat, and control via the application. The Thermostat can be controlled by Alexa/Google Home/Apple home kit/Smart Things. All-in-All it took about 20 minutes to complete the set-up. From the application you can set-up Schedules that allow you to schedule the heat/ac/temperature for different times according to your wishes. The wall unit displays the temperature in large numbers. There is a Wi-Fi icon to show when it is connected to the Wi-Fi. An on/Off Icon, along with a snowflake icon for cooling and a fire icon for heating. There is also an Icon for Keypad lock and Auto Mode along with Auxiliary. The 3 dots icon opens the menu and up and down arrows for setting temperature.

No-brainer upgrade that I think anyone can do. I am fortunate enough to have a HVAC system that is less than 10 years old, so I think this made the installation process a bit easier. That being said, hooking up the Sense Lite could not have been more straight forward. Everything was clearly labeled, directions were easily understood, and there were no surprises. I do recommend downloading the app since it will allow you to use this smart thermostat to its full potential. Don't let the word "LITE" in the name fool you. This little device is feature-rich and leaves me wondering why I waited so long to upgrade. I love that I can control the temp from anywhere in my home or even when I'm away. I also use Alexa voice control and this pairs so well. I like being able to tell Alexa what to set the temp at without needing to get off the couch (first world problems, I know). At the end of the day, I cannot recommend this enough. It is a fast and easy upgrade that I think anyone could do themselves and quickly improve their quality of life as well as save money by making your HVAC system run more efficiently.

Smart thermostats have definitely come a long way over the years. We've had our Honeywell original thermostat for over 30 years, and despite the Mercury, it's worked and hasn't needed replacement. This is a clean cut, simple but futuristic, fully functional smart wi-fi thermostat that truly fits the technological times that we are in, at a more than reasonably affordable price. The aesthetic look is very simple and clean and professional looking. Doesn't look or feel like a budget product, and it definitely isn't. The touch functions work as they should, and the main temperature reading section is clearly visible for people of all ages. The Sensi app on both the Google Play store for our Android phone and App Store for iPhone works great and is straightforward and easy to understand. Installation is actually very straight forward as well, no need to hire an electrician to install for $50+ per hour. Also takes less than an hour to install, and that's coming from someone with no electrical experience whatsoever, but has competency with putting together a computer.

The Sensi Lite surprised me in that it does not require a C wire to operate. I've used 3 different smart thermostat models at this point and all have required the C wire, so that was a pleasant surprise even though my setup already has that wire. Connection was super easy - all wires are connected a mounting plate that you actually put on your wall, then you can easily attach and detach the Sensi Lite should you need to change batteries. The interface on the thermostat itself is very barebones, but for all that it really works about like any other basic thermostat. Once you set up the Sensi Lite in the Sensi app, it seems to have the same features as more expensive models despite it's extremely affordable pricetag. Apartment dwellers should definitely be able to take advantage of the smart thermostat features on the Sensi Lite since it doesn't need the C wire. I will definitely be recommending the Sensi Lite as an option for friends and family who might not have access to add a C wire to their HVAC system (and in fact, I already have). Two thumbs up.

This thermostat did a great job and is a great starter for the smart home DIY projects that you might have. Installation was very easy and the few questions that I did have during installation were answered with basic online searching and through the documentation at the manufacturers website. The thermostat is very appealing in aesthetics and has not once drawn undue attention for not fitting in or being an eyesore. The app was very easy to use and the largest difficulty was finding out what I had set my Wi-Fi password to. I would assume during the app setup this would probably be some people's problem as well, I would encourage anyone attempting any sort of smart home project to know their network information that they want to connect to. Once I had my information that I needed to connect to the network setup was incredibly easy and took less than 10 minutes. I've been using the app on multiple devices and appears to work well on my iPhone and my wife's Google pixel. This overall was a great experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone trying to set up a smart thermostat.
