I hated it. I love to take pictures the camera quality isn't that good. But the major reason I only put one star is because it won't let you download snapchat

Love, love, love my Lumia 640s. Even at double the price, this is an amazing pocket computer. Each of my three kids use them for Netflix streaming, Minecraft, Skype, etc. (and dad doesn't get mad when they drop one in the bathtub or leave it at a park, he just hands them a new one and and lets them sync all their data back from the cloud). If a particular app from another platform is mission-critical for you, check the Windows Store to see if the app (or a good third-party client or replacement) is available - that is the one and only weak spot of the 640. Set up one as a home security camera. Leave another in the car as a dedicated GPS unit (the Microsoft maps app on Windows 10 is as good as the old Here maps). It's not going to crawl like a comparably-priced Android device, and Apple doesn't even make devices with native Skype, easily expandable memory, etc. at any price. If price weren't an issue, is a flagship smartphone going to give a superior experience? Of course. But this will do 80% of what you would do on a brand new iPhone or a Galaxy S7 for 5% of the price. I just bought a few more 640s as backups. The Lumia 640 pocket computer is a no brainer.

Windows Mobile Insider Fast Track for the Cricket

Before turning on fast track the Cricket LUMIA 640 phone was running pretty well on version 10.0.14393.67. This version came from the APP store automatically for this new out-of-box device that was pre-loaded with a version of Windows 8.1. Once I setup an Insider account to run in the fast track mode the newly released update quickly downloaded the latest Windows 10 mobile release. The install is proceeding right now after a phone restart was initiated with no hangs so far. The install is completing with 7 steps of Migration of data. After completion, the phone restarted and a message took me to the update status page. When that completed, the phone reported being up-to-date. A check of the System>About page indicates the phone is now running the new fast track OS build 10.0.14915.1000. Exercising various features shows no loss of functionality so far and the Edge browser seems to be noticeable more responsive rendering complex pages. The phone functionality works quite well including voicemail playback. The sound quality of computer generated voices is quite clear and the phone has the excellent feature of automatically turning on the speaker when you move the phone away from your ear. The phone; when connected, via USB to a Windows 10 PC offers to allow a charging connection or charging plus data transfer. That is a nice feature. When connected via USB it is easy to copy and paste music, photos and other files from your PC to the phone’s SD card. I also succeeded in pairing a Bluetooth MAC keyboard that came with an old iPad 2 case. This greatly enhances using the phone when a lot of keyboard input is needed. I’m working on wireless printing to my home printer. With the phone functioning well with the fast track update, I took a short road trip (30 miles) to conduct some personnel business. While there, I called home to my wife and asked her to call me on my return trip to test the phone’s Bluetooth pairing to my car. I just wanted to be certain the phone would work hands free through my vehicles sound system. It did. This makes for a very convenient, safe and hands free way of answering and using a phone while driving a car. The incoming voice was quite clear over my car’s speakers and my wife reported my voice was loud and clear as well. When I got home I switched the Insider track from Fast to Slow to complete further testing of the OS for problems before the next major insider release. So far I have only one APP that refuses to update and that is the Extras & Info APP. I’ve been exercising a number of downloaded apps that are important to me such as; Plex client and VLC for video and audio playback. These are functioning well. I also loaded a microSD card with 100’s of my favorite photos and the built in photo app displays them just as the Windows 10 desktop app does. VLC playback of several thousand mp3’s seems to be working as are several 100 mp4 videos. The biggest drawback to VLC mobile is the apps’ huge size. I have since switched to a the Loco Music app. The built in Groove app is a joke. So far I’m very impressed with this Lumia 640 smartphone. I have a 64GB MicroSD (purchased at BESTBUY) card installed in this phone and stored everything except apps to this location at first. This includes offline maps. The music folder is loaded with over a thousand of my favorite mp3’s. Music playback sounds good and is noticeable louder through the Lumia 640 speaker that one gets with an iPhone speaker. Playback through Bluetooth paired headphones is fine, but the best fidelity works through a plugged in noise-canceling headphone. In general I’m pretty happy with the music playback of this phone. I noticed with some alarm that installing apps to internal storage was rapidly eating up the 8GB of space in the Lumia 640. I have since moved every app that I was allowed to move to the SD card and I now seem to have a pretty stable balance of 60 per cent of used internal storage. I did receive one warning that something went awry with the microSD card and had an offer to fix it. I did a complete cloud backup before I allowed error checking and repair of the SD card. The problem seems to have gone away and no more error messages have been seen. Having maintained my wife’s iPhone 4S and her recent upgrade to iPhone 6S, I must say the Microsoft based Cricket Lumia 640 is a very competitive option to the much higher priced Apple hardware.

great! but no Firefox, DISH etc

Long time Win7 user here, loving my OneDrive for photos. Did you know GoogDrive and Dropbox won't SORT photos BY DATE? Duh! Also love Skype, also baked right in. I didn't know how I'd like the Win8.1 on this, having downgraded my PC from 8 back to 7. But... now I love the Live Tiles, way better than Android, and I love the A-Z list of installed Apps, something I had to install in Android, "Quick Drawer". I'd give this phone 5 stars for the quality/price/UI equation, but I have to knock off a star because there's no Firefox available, nor my DISH Network apps for my TV, (WHY WHY) and other less important apps. This situation will seeminly only get worse over time. If you're used to Windows and you don't need those apps, I highly recommend this phone! Otherwise try Android with Quick Drawer and Home8.

Really awesome phone, especially with Windows 10

This phone is probably the best underdog out there. The specs are notably better than many competing higher priced offerings. The 5" Clearblack IPS HD screen is top notch and much better than you can hope for at this price. The quad-core Snapdragon is snappy and apps load quickly. The 8GB of storage is small but you do get a microSD card slot (I easily added 64GB, though it does require removing the back cover AND battery). You can even chose to have new apps and default folders moved to the new storage (a major plus, something Android doesn't make easy). Also the phone runs on Cricket's 4G LTE. which from my experience I can say that calls have been very clear and the web is fairly quick. I never had an issue with it driving to and from Vegas and so-Cal. The saving grace about this phone is its ability to update to Windows 10 and the features you will get. Highest on the list is that they cleaned up and better organized the settings menu. You also get the much appreciated torch light feature built into the notifications quick access buttons ala iOS. It now feels like the phone it should've always been and sadly for some it might be too little too late. Obviously what you're giving up here is the vast number of apps that unfortunately aren't coming to Windows phone and/or may not get as frequently updated as their Android/iOS versions. So if you have some critical "must-have" apps in mind check to see if they're available or if there's an alternative. To me I just needed the basics such as email, social media, good camera functions, and web capability. All things considered, if you don't mind not being on the (costly) bleeding edge of pocket tech and just want the best bang for your buck then look no further. This phone easily puts even some pricier phones to shame and might just amaze you!

    Awesome phone & OS! Quality!

First off I totally agree with Shumby and Richard's reviews. I switched to this Microsoft windows Lumia 640 4g lte from android phone and I am very pleased that I did. It always seemed with Android that it was inevitable that at some point phone would lock up, return to home screen, freeze, when you pushed the phone too far multitasking. This phone runs smooth always, I'm impressed. Don't let the cheap price fool you, this phone and windows OS is underrated. If you put bias aside and try this phone, you will not be disappointed. It will take a little getting used to differences from android but I truly believe you will be pleasantly surprised.

Biggest Bang for the Buck out there...

This Phone (Lumia 640) is shockingly and surprisingly great, and this is coming from an Android user. When you tell people you paid just $29, many just shake their head and say "...give me that phone...you paid $29 for this phone..you're kidding me" it's that good. I know a number of people that have picked up 2 and one person that bought 3. If Microsoft totally gets out of the phone biz, this phone will keep on working for sometime. So it's a no-brainer for a backup phone...

Don't do it, don't buy a Windows Phone

I used this phone for about 3 months. The phone itself is OK, and for $30, it's good hardware. But the Windows Store is an absolute JOKE. And I quickly regretted buying a Windows Phone. I'm now back to Android, and am very happy. Seriously, I would much rather have a $50 Android phone than a $600 Windows Phone. Don't buy this....
