Waited for this 4k for a long time, it was worth the wait. Gorgeous looking film, beautifully photographed and directed. The sound and picture quality are perfect.

Try to shoot and get the 4K version. Sadly, I opened the wrapping and put it away and the next day my store had the 4K version for the same price. This is still a wonderful movie and the packagin was good.

Bought on a whim due to interest in the plot and wasn't disappointed. Story and acting is great and for the age, the 4k restoration was done extremely well.

If you were to tell me five years ago that one day we would see an Akira Kurosawa film released on the 4K UHD format, I would have told you that you're delusional. The new release of his 1985 masterpiece "Ran" proved me wrong. One of the legendary Japanese filmmaker's finest hours -and based on William Shakespeare's "King Lear"-, "Ran" is the story of an aging warlord who decides to divide his kingdom among his three adult sons. A move that sets off a series of events that set family member against family member. Outside of the long out-of-print DVD edition from Criterion, "Ran" has had a bit of a rough ride on home video thanks to questionable picture transfers. The new Lionsgate UHD, using a new restored print from Studio Canal, seems to remedy said PQ issues. It still has a few small issues here and there, but overall it is a very pleasing picture with a solid soundtrack to accompany it. For some unexplained reason, there is an English dub track on the disc. Not sure why they would waste the space on such a useless thing. My only other criticism is the sizable amount of supplemental material found on previous editions is nowhere to be found on this edition (rights issues, perhaps?). You can find the extras on the streaming version from iTunes, if you're interested in them. If you're a fan of Kurosawa's films, or just great filmmaking in general, "Ran" is a more-than-welcome addition to the 4K UHD format.

Package came quick and in pretty good condition. It plays great great and has such a good look, Only complaint was there was a little bit of glue on the front of the blu-ray case, that was a little difficult to remove. However, other than that I am satisfied with my purchase.

Awesome movie and one of my favorite steelbook designs of all time. Try to find in store, dont trust bestbuy to not send you damaged items.

This is just a review on the Steelbook. Great cover art and interior. The plastic cover is also a nice touch to this beautiful Steelbook.

A surprise delight. I had never heard of this movie but the hard cover grabbed my attention. The film gave me stage play vibes but in a good way.

Ran is classic Kurosawa. Finding Ran on blu-ray in a steelbook, with a digital copy was a win. And it was on sale! Win-win.

Great picture quality and a fantastic film. The digital code is for a 4k version so it still looks great even if you're streaming it.

The artwork is incredible, but the case won’t close. This was after I reordered the item when the first steelbook arrived with a dent. However, the film transfer is amazing and the case is incredible. Definitely a must buy!

I really enjoyed this movie. It gives the people who enjoy fleshed out story as much as you can handle; and the action makes you think this is a real video of feudal Japan. The steelbook looks amazing and the slip cover just adds to the already beautiful art work.
