This new SSD from Crucial is exactly the storage upgrade I was looking for on my PS5. Note that is compatible with the regular PS5 and the PS5 Pro. The packaging is frustration free, no screws or anything else inside is just the drive already assembled. Heatsink is already attached and feels very snug and secure. For anyone that would be interested in removing the heatsink, it does not seem to be easy to remove without risking damage to the drive so be warned there. Installation into the PS5 was fairly simple with minimal disassembly required. Once I got through the usual messages upon boot, I was off to the races with installing all my games on it. At 2TB I was able to get my small library of games installed with plenty of room for growth. Speeds on this thing are very fast and I def noticed a few seconds of loading screen improvements throughout my testing phase with it. It does everything I was hoping for and does it well, the heatsink will help keep the temperature down and make sure the drive lasts a long time. It comes with a 5yr backed warranty from Crucial so you can rest easy knowing that if something does go wrong, they have your back. This would also work in a PC instead of a PS5 for those curious but with that hefty heatsink it likely would not fit into a laptop without attempting to remove the heatsink. Solid choice for a PS5 or PC upgrade, can't go wrong here especially with the 5 yr warranty, would recommend.

No more games on the soldered internal storage yay

OK, so it took a bit to do, but now none of my PS5 games are on the soldered storage. So no longer is there any additional unneeded wear and tear happening on that drive. So my PS5 should, in theory, last longer. So why should it last longer? Because Flash media, solid state storage, NVME Drives, etc. Are all consumable items, they wear out over time. The Base model PS5 that I own has less than 1TB of internal soldered storage to begin with, with how large games are, if you play a lot of games or have a large library, you are either installing and uninstalling games a lot, or using external drives etc. In this case, Crucial's P310 is saving the day, at a 2TB capacity I was able to not only move the games from the internal storage over to it but also install all of my other games as well regardless of their inflated install sizes. (looking at you COD) It being a gen 4x4 drive means it's not the fastest availible on the market, but its fast enough for the PS5 which has strict minimum speed requirements to maintain quick load times. There's not a lot to say here, Crucial is a solid, reliable brand for memory and storage, and this is no exception, games are running great off the new drive, The heatsink looks beefy enough to handle operating temps during long play sessions, and 2TBs is enough for me, as long as I don't install every release of COD at the same time. If you need more storage for your PS5, or PC, I would have zero issues recommending a Crucial drive.

I had been looking to upgrade my PS5 with a little more hard drive space. They really don’t put nearly enough in these machines. When I saw this hard drive, I knew it would be perfect for me! Installation is a breeze. There are many YouTube videos online showing you just how to open up your PS5 to easily install this hard drive. It took me maybe about 10 minutes from start to finish and I was ready to go! I fired up my PS5 and immediately saw that the new hard drive was recognized and I was easily able to transfer games over to it. You can also set it up to have new games installed on it by default if your main hard drive is full. after I got some games transferred, I loaded a couple of them up to play them. I have to say, I don’t notice any difference in speed or load times or anything compared to when they were installed on the internal hard drive. The packaging says that the drive has read speeds up to 7100MB/s, and I have no reason to believe that is not the case. This thing is fast and works perfectly. Our PS5 gets a LOT of use and there are times it can be on and have someone playing games for 6-8 hours a day and this hard drive has no problem keeping up and never once did it seem like it was slow, lagging, or overheating. This is a must buy for any PS5 owner! I have zero complaints about it!

My son had been playing on my old PS4, so when it died we got him a PS5 for the ability to play PS4 games on the PS5. With that said, the new PS5 needed more memory as after downloading COD and Fortnite there wasn't much left. I had updated my PS5 last year so I knew what I was doing with this one, which saved the time of watching Youtube videos to learn how to do it. With that said...the process for this install was just as quick and easy as the last. Took the PS5 cover off off, opened the housing and install the new Crucial P310 2TB internal SSD card. After putting everything back together, which only took about 5 minutes total with my son looking over my shoulder and asking questions, we hooked it back up to the TV with the HDMI cable and plugged the power back on. The PS5 immediatley recognized and did a speed test. It came in at 6720MBS read speed which is well above the PS5 required of 5000. After getting in the Sony IOS you can format it to be your default storage. It comes with built in heatsink, as well so it will not overheat when gaming. This is my second Crucial interanl drive and I have to say I'm pleased with the performance. I highly recommend for the extra storage space, speed, and cost...it's a really good buy.

This SSD is a great addition to your system to expand the on board internal storage. The install process went easy and like any M.2 device it pops right in and the included screw holds it easily in place. Formatting the drive takes a bit to complete but it did complete flawlessly. The included and preinstalled heat sink adds keeps this memory stick cool when in operation, and increases the efficiency. Load times were not noticeably improved, but some longer loading operations were noticed to be shorter. There was no noticeable lag from disk operations at various times while playing games. Aside from accessing the installation slot this was an easy and painless process. Overall this SSD seems well made and I’m hoping it has a long life, which the heat sink should help with. The included instructions are clear and easy to follow for the installation process. There are also lots of online video resource examples to follow. Crucial is known for their high quality and duty cycle capable storage devices and this drive is no exception.

Crucial has always been my go-to for Windows RAM and SSDs. Now, it's the same for the PS5, with games getting larger and larger. Being able to store plenty of games is huge. Not just storing them, but having them run and not having your drive slow down is another problem. Enter the Crucial P310 2TB SSD! The Install is super easy. Amazingly, such a tiny item can hold all that space for games and storage. The SSD is housed in an enclosure. This will keep it from overheating in those long sessions of gaming. The formation of the SSD is also easy and simple. It's a standard SSD inside an enclosure. As far as speeds go, this will be more than fine. I didn't notice any load lags or speed drops with the SSD. The 2TB is the perfect size for storing games. This also makes a great SSD for any Windows computer. This is a great upgrade for anyone with a PS5. I know many have struggled with storage for this device. Will Crucial has come to aid you, fellow gamer! No more deleting old games to download new ones like many of us have done in the past!

    Fast Drive for PS5

Having a PS5 I was looking to add additional storage to be able to hold more games and content. This drive was easy to install and works very well. The addition of the heat sink built on the device made it even easier to use. I was able to install it easily in a matter of minutes. Remember that you need to format the drive once installed in the PS5 but the PS5 system software will assist with that. I have seen no issues with speed with this storage compared to the onboard storage. It runs at 7100 Mbps so that is not surprising. I would recommend if you are going to purchase an external drive to add storage to your PS5 you should get the 2TB to maximize the single drive expansion for the PS5. 2TB will hold a large number of games (games space needs very greatly depending on the game) but as games advance additional space will be a necessity. I am pleased with this SSD storage and what it adds to my PS5. For the price, you get alot of benefit and I would highly recommend this drive.

Quick and easy to install. I had previously added a 1TB nvme drive when that option first went live for the ps5. This new drive is faster and runs cooler than my old SSD. Comes with a heat shield installed and it works really well. Ps5 immediately recognized the drive and we were ready to go in minutes. This SSD will be more than enough for my needs, as it has plenty of speed and storage for more than enough games. If you are looking for a good option to upgrade, I highly recommend this drive. I really don’t have anything negative to say about it, nothing critical, because it meets the requirements and needs of the PlayStation 5, so what more could I want? Seems incredibly durable, is a great brand that knows how to make quality products, and was absolutely zero stress to install. 2TB will get you approximately 20-30 AAA games, and 100+ typical indie games. That’s more games than I even have! I think I’ll be set for the foreseeable future. I highly recommend grabbing one while you can!

These new superfast storage modules are getting better and better and the Crucial - P310 2TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe M.2 is a great example. In addition it has the very necessary heatsink (for PS5) already attached (permanently). It is ideal for expanding the storage of the PS5 Playstation from Sony. I did not know that adding this module to the PS5 was so simple, my bad. It is basically plug and play. Since the newest games require lots of storage, who wants to remove games to make space for a new game? Now you won't need to do that. That's really part 1. Part 2 is that this device is faster than many earlier versions of NVMe. Not 1000 megabytes per second but on the order of 7000 megabytes per second for a sequential or even a random read, and around 6000 megabytes per second for write speed. I wanted to test this unit inside a laptop so I could measure its speed. Note that if you use an NVME to USB docking station so you can attach this device as an external drive, you will be limited by the USB port speed; so you would need to test it inside the laptop in my case to the PCIe port where the OS storage is inserted. However to clone your operating system you would still need a USB NVMe docking station for your USB connected 'destination disk' anyway (make sure it will support a form factor of M.2 2280). I already had some cloning software that also contained a speed test utility. After I cloned the Windows 11 OS to the new NVMe storage. I simply replaced it inside the laptop. Yes indeed the speed test showed the read speed over 6600 megabytes per second and just a bit slower for the write speeds. This device can operate more than 12 times faster than an external SSD drive attached to a USB port per what I measured, so it will certainly help when inserted into your PS5 both for game storage and speed. Now I verified it. Tip of the cap to the Crucial design engineers for attaching the heat sink. I May get another Crucial unit without the heat sink and permanently make my laptop faster and with more storage. Suffice to say this Crucial product is very useful for your PS5. I highly recommend it based on its great read/write specifications, the attached heatsink and the ease of install into the PS5.

Great Upgrade Option for the PS5

This particular NVMe SSD is targeted as a upgrade for the Sony PS5 and has a permanently attached cooler. This is important to know in case you have plans to use this SSD in a PC or laptop. Since the cooler is not removeable you need to make sure you have enough clearance in your desired install area. As far as an upgrade for a PS5 it is a fantastic option. You will be required to remove your side panel and move the mounting screw from the 22110 position to the 2280 position. Both of these tasks are trivial and the Crucial P310 installs easily. Sony has a stated minimum spec for read speed of 5500MB/s and this blows right past that spec and is rated to 7100MB/s read and 6000MB/s write. While installed in my PS5 I am getting north of 6400MB/s, which is right up there is speed with the highest end SSDs when used in a PS5. I also tested this in my PC to verify the speed claims and I am happy to report I achieved 7200MB/s read and 6300MB/s write in my system. Overall given the great pricing and speeds of this SSD I feel it is a great value as an upgrade to your PS5 or even to expand the storage of a PC.

The Crucial P310 2TB Internal SSD is my first Crucial product, so I was interested in the results. I installed into the PlayStation 5 I have had since 2022. Opening the PlayStation was the hardest part about installing the SSD into the PlayStation. Once I got it open, the instructions provided made it very easy to install. Once installed, the PlayStation found the new hardware and gave the option to format it prior to using. After the PlayStation restarted and the formatting was complete, I moved four games over and ran the games. The largest game was Gran Turismo 7, which is about 130GB. Nearly instant startup on every game, including GT7. Very impressed with the SSD. What's also impressive is that Crucial has a five year limited warranty on the SSD as well. I don't recall other SSDs have as long of a warranty. At this point, I haven't had any issues with the heatsink, so I can't provide an opinion on how well the heatsink is or how well it will be in the future. With that said, I am impressed with the Crucial - P310 2TB Internal SSD and I highly recommend it.

    Essential ps5 upgrade

One of the first things I did with my original PS5 was to add an extra hard drive for more game storage. With that system I went with a 2TB Cruical SSD and I’ve been very happy with it. I recently got a second PS5 to keep from having to move the one between different rooms in my house and once again I’m adding more storage. With the size of games it really is an essential upgrade if you don’t want to have to constantly remove games to add new ones. I do wish Sony would just up the base storage for the PS5 given some games like Call of Duty Black ops Cold War can be up to 312 GB alone! That’s almost half of the internal hard drives space in one game alone. This Crucial SSD with 2TB of space helps free up space on the main hard drive. It has a read speed of 7100 and a write speed of 6000, both of which are faster than the internal PS5 hardrive. Installing an extra SSD is an extremely simple process on the PS5 also. If you want to stop dealing with your PS5 storage filling up with only a few games, Crucial has you covered with the extra storage you need!

We have one of the original PS5 units. Problem is, since the game console was released the size of games have seemingly doubled. The original storage was just not enough, and an external drive just was not cutting it. Adding 2 TB storage had made a world of difference. The disk speed is comparable, maybe slightly faster, than the internal storage. Tripling our previous storage is a godsend. We now can have more than three or four games installed on the PS5. Installation was very easy. Just follow the online videos for upgrading the storage. It took a few minutes and a #1 Phillips head screw driver. It is one of the easiest storage upgrades I have ever done. Kudos to whoever designed the PS5 storage upgrade design. If everything is installed correct, when you power up you are greeted with a format storage screen. Just follow on screen instructions. After format is completed, you can go through settings and under storage change the default install location. If you want to free up some space on the internal storage, you can move games from internal to the SSD. If you are tired of uninstalling games so you can install a new game or if you are going back to a game to play again. This is definitely worth the price of admission to have the extra storage. Highly recommended.

Top tier QLC drive, Crucial rocks!

TLDR - Great QLC option for PS5 or PC. DRAM-less and QLC, but still plenty quick. Keeps speedy and cool in the PS5, tests a bit over 6000MB/s! (crystal disk mark 8 on PC shows peaks of 6.9GB/s reads and 6.3GB/s writes, I had less to compare to on the PS5 so I also tested in my desktop that has an x870 board and 7700x) In real world testing, you’ll barely notice any difference between this drive and most top tier PCIE 4.0 drives. I transferred some chunks of files (about 42GB) and got over 3GB/s for the whole transfer from a similarly speedy NVME drive on my x870 board in my PC. On PS5 loads never take long, similar to the internal drive. I also moved a folder of games that was about 300GB, drive never got over 41C! (my case has stellar air movement and my basement is quite cool, but still, my other drives regularly see 50-60c peak!) This drive is easily recommended for PS5 and PC! Crucial makes solid stuff! Sidenote - this is a QLC drive, so its longevity will not be the same as TLC drives. Crucial does give you a 5 year warranty with 440TBW! Doesn’t sound like much vs other drives, but it's PLENTY for the average gamer/PC user. Even most power users won’t hit that before 5 years. Buy with confidence!

When the PS5 first came out and I realized that you could expand the memory. I was obviously on board. Never had the guts to do it with my PS4 or a decent reason to, but with PS5 and the incredible game library for the last five consoles, there's definitely a good reason. This thing fits into the slot on the back side of the console at an angle. You pin it down and there's a screw that's already provided depending upon the length of what SSD drive you put into the system. You can find videos on YouTube on how to do so. It's quite simple and very very easy. A simple set of tools is all you will need and make sure to do everything carefully and slowly. From there, you will start the system back up. It'll automatically format the SSD and then you just go back into the PS5 settings and tweak your save settings. For example, I have everything going to the SSD drive and almost absolutely nothing going to the internal memory so that it doesn't burn out as fast. I highly recommend this product. You can't even tell where it's saved. You just know that it saved and it's moving just as fast as if it was safe to the system.

I'm reviewing the Crucial P310 PCI Express 4.0 high-performance SSD with a heatsink, in 80mm size. The 80mm version is for laptop and desktop machines. I tested the 2TB storage model. It uses Micron's 232-layer Quad Level Cell NAND flash memory. 232-layer QLC NAND is the densest QLC NAND available. It's DRAM-less, using your PC's main memory as a host memory buffer (HMB). My understanding is that QLC NAND stores four bits per cell, and that potentially impacts performance and endurance compared to TLC (Triple-Level Cell) NAND. Regardless, this SSD delivers a minimum of 5,500 MB/s read speed, which is what Sony recommends for the PS5. Considering games take up so much room nowadays you're probably better off going with a 4TB mode, but the price goes up enough that you're probably better off going with a different more performant drive. In my tests, the P310 slightly exceeded Micron's claimed read and write speeds. Overall, the P310 demonstrated solid PCIe 4.0 speed compared to a competing drive I had on my desktop PC. I was a little disappointed with the QLC flash memory because it has a lower terabytes written (TBW) rating than non-QLC drives. For example, another 2 TB drive I have from the most popular drive maker has a 1200 TBW. The Crcuial 2TB model has a 440 TBW rating. The drive's five-year warranty is valid as long as the TBW rating is not exceeded. My typical PC use is unlikely to go reach this before the warranty expires but something I look at. I ran PCMARK and DiskBench tests. The P310 2280 did well on both. The numbers seem to be in line with other drives in the same price range amd reviewed on the web. The QLC flash memory caps the top speeds at lower write performance but it was good enough to compete but not beat higher-end drives and slightly beat a lower end drive I have on my PC. Considering it’s DRAM-less, the results were pretty good for sustained copy jobs and big files. I didn't test performance when the drive was fill, which can drop performance, as there's less spare area to work with. If you need DRAM and/or TLC flash then go with the T500 model but it will be more expensive.
