The Crucial P5 Plus is a great entry level NVMe drive that utilizes the newer PCIe Gen4 standard. After getting my hands on these I used it in a variety of circumstances from using it as an external drive to copy data from my laptop to my desktop PC, using it as a bootable drive, and finally using it in my PS5 to upgrade my storage. Here’s some key points that I saw during my usage: Pros: - PCIe Gen 4 compatibility - Great value (compared to similar storage capacity supporting Gen 4) - Available up to 2TB (even though I got the 1 TB version) - Perfect for regular non-critical duty usage, and very good option as secondary storage - Included heatsink make it so much easier to upgrade PS5 storage - 5 years warranty (limited by TBW) - 600 TB SSD endurance rating - Backward compatible with Gen. 3 systems - Standard installation procedure - Heatsink is low profile, making installation in desktop and PS5 hassle-free - Acronis Cloning Software can be used for free to format/clone/setup - Uses Micron TLC NAND chips - Uses Micron’s in-house -channel DRAM controller, with 1GB of LPDDR4 memory (for 1 TB capacity model) - Support hardware-based encryption - No issues when installed in my PS5 - got detected easily. However, opening up the PS5 was not the most easiest thing to do for everyone Cons: - Not the fastest PCIe Gen 4 drive out there. Sequential Read and Write in the lower 5000s MBps. However, write speed degraded a bit to around ~2000 MBps when I used a very large file - No screw etc. in the package, but that’s kind of nitpicking - I couldn’t find a heatsink disassembly guide, and without taking that out I was not able to use it in my laptop Overall, even though the performance is not the best out there, for regular purpose computing and secondary data storage activities, as well as upgrading PS5 storage, the P5 Plus with its pre-installed heatsink presents a great value. Definitely worth considering.

The Crucial P5 Plus 1TB Internal SSD with a PCIe Gen 4x4 NVMe interface and built-in heatsink is a fantastic addition to enhance the performance and storage capacity of your PS5 gaming console. As someone who values faster load times, ample storage space, and heat control, I can confidently say that this SSD delivers on all fronts. Speed: The speed of the Crucial P5 Plus is truly impressive. With its PCIe Gen 4x4 NVMe interface, it can take full advantage of the high-speed capabilities of the PS5, providing lightning-fast read and write speeds. Games load noticeably quicker, and the overall system responsiveness is greatly improved. Whether you're jumping into your favorite AAA title or accessing various applications, the speed of this SSD is sure to impress. Installation: Installing the Crucial P5 Plus in your PS5 is a relatively straightforward process. The drive comes with clear instructions, and if you're familiar with hardware installations, it should be a breeze. Additionally, the inclusion of the heatsink makes the process even more convenient, as you don't have to worry about attaching a separate cooling solution to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Heat Control: Heat is a significant concern when it comes to SSDs, especially during intensive gaming sessions. The integrated heatsink on the Crucial P5 Plus does an excellent job of dissipating heat, which helps maintain consistent performance even under prolonged usage. This is particularly crucial for the PS5, as a cooler drive ensures smoother gameplay and mitigates the risk of thermal throttling. Storage Capacity: The 1TB storage capacity of the Crucial P5 Plus provides a substantial boost to the PS5's original storage space. Modern games are becoming larger in size, so having an additional 1TB at your disposal is a significant advantage. You'll be able to store a considerable number of games, applications, and media files without worrying about running out of space anytime soon. Compatibility: One of the critical aspects of an SSD upgrade for the PS5 is its compatibility. The Crucial P5 Plus has been designed explicitly with gaming consoles like the PS5 in mind. It meets the necessary requirements, ensuring that it works flawlessly without any compatibility issues. Additionally, the built-in heatsink is tailored for the PS5's form factor, making it a perfect fit. Conclusion: In conclusion, the Crucial P5 Plus 1TB Internal SSD with a PCIe Gen 4x4 NVMe interface and heatsink is a top-notch choice for upgrading your PS5's storage. Its exceptional speed, ease of installation, effective heat control, generous storage capacity, and guaranteed compatibility make it a worthy investment for any PS5 enthusiast. With this SSD, you can elevate your gaming experience to a whole new level and say goodbye to slow load times and storage constraints.

    A PS5 Must-Have Upgrade

The PS5 has only about 665 GB of usable space. With the average modern game having a file size of around 50 GB you quickly run up against the limitations of the SSD built in. Luckily Crucial is here to save the day with the P5 Plus 1TB SSD with Heatsink! Having what is essentially 1.6 TB of storage space has been a lifesaver. I like having most of my games installed because it takes so long to redownload them if I do want to play and those downloads go against my Xfinity data cap. I wanted to speed test this SSD just to make sure that I wasn’t getting a performance hit when loading games off of it. It is certified by Sony to be fast enough but I just wanted to double check for myself. I first loaded up Spiderman: Miles Morales because of just how fast those load times are from its SSD optimization. From clicking on the icon in the PS5 menu to having control of the game, it took only 46.54 seconds. I then closed the game, fully turned off the PS5, then moved the game over to the SSD. This was blazing fast, only taking about 15 seconds for a 40GB+ game. Then I retested it on a cold boot from the Crucial SSD, again it took only 46.41! All this to say, you will not see a performance difference when booting games from either SSD. The fact that it comes with a heatsink preinstalled is fantastic and shouts out to Sony for making it so easy to add an SSD to the PS5. Truly only took me a minute to install and once it was properly installed, the PS5 had a pop up that said, do you want to format the new SSD? Easy! Pros: Great price As fast as the built in SSD Heatsink already attached Plug and play Fast transfer speeds Cons: None, they knocked it out of the park with this one!

Speedy Crucial P5 Plus with Heatsink SSD

So I received my Crucial P5 Plus with Heatsink SSD about a week ago and having been putting it through its paces. I had been wanting to upgrade my SSD in my desktop for over the last year but hadn't gotten around to it. And with this being by Crucial, I knew that this SSD was probably compatible with my desktop. One thing I like about Crucial (for those of you that have used Crucial products before), is that Crucial allows you to either run a System Scan via their website or you can download a quick program that will scan your system to ensure that whatever SSD or RAM you're inquiring about is compatible with your system. Inside the box, is the just the drive and the small instruction guide. Installing this on my desktop did not take long. I just cracked open the side of my PC and mounted it using the M.2 screw that was already on my board. Using the software on Crucial's website allows you to clone and copy everything over from your old hard drive to the new SSD. This process can take awhile depending how much you have on the old hard-drive. After getting everything situated and the side cover back on, I booted up a couple of heavy intense games and was pleasantly surprised by the speed. Even with just the basic day-to-day tasks my desktop is a lot faster with read/write speeds, without any hiccups. This SSD is also compatible with Sony's PS5 as well. Basically, it's an amazing drive for gamers at a great price. Highly recommended.

Can't believe how cheap storage is now

I really can't believe how far SSD technology has come. A 128GB SSD used to cost what this 1TB SSD costs. My first SSD was a Crucial drive. Crucial was a solid choice for SSDs back then and still is, no pun intended. The Crucial P5 Plus is a relatively affordable way to expand the storage for your desktop PC or PS5. The included heatsink is generous and nice added touch. It should definitely keep the SSD relatively cool while your system is under load. Installation is simple enough and really basically just plug and play. The longest part was taking apart my PS5. After you install the SSD, you turn on the PS5 and just follow the instructions to setup. Speeds are blazing fast. You can read up on the read and write speeds (up to 6600 Mbps read and 5000 Mbps write). These numbers place it solidly in the upper echelon. I would say these are great bang for the buck and if you can get these on sale, then they are definitely a steal. All in all, if you need to expand your storage, then you cannot go wrong with the Crucial P5 Plus.

This hard drive went into my PS5 to increase the storage capacity of PS5 games. You can install PS4 games onto an external hard drive but PS5 games need to take advantage of the super fast hard drive. Everything was pretty straight forward and now I have an extra 1TB of space to load my PS5 up with. Setup is fairly easy. You can find videos on how to take the one panel off of your PS5 to reach the drive bay. The strangest thing is how the videos talk about gently removing the panel and it felt like it was anything but gentle until it just gave way and came off easy as pie. Not going to knock the hard drive for that part. The bay is covered by a screw and then you need to remove the other screw that holds the drive down. Just slide it into the slot and screw everything back in and you're good to go. When turning on the PS5 for the first time after installing a new M.2 drive, playstation warns you about needing to format it and tells you if you don't want to do that then you'll have to remove the drive completely. So one more button and barely any time later and it's all ready to use. You can tell your PS5 which drive to install to by default but I was a little sad there's not an option to just always ask what drive I want to install on. It shouldn't really matter and it's not a fault of the drive at all, of course. Installing and moving games around seemed quick and painless. It feels like a native drive (except for not being able to save screenshots/videos/save files to it). You can install anything you like without any issues. I didn't notice any speed differences by just installing and playing games normally. I can't attest to there not being any, but in a real world setting, it just didn't feel like things installed on the second drive loaded or did anything any slower than the native internal drive. All in all, if you need more storage for your PS5, this seems like a pretty good solution. It's not terribly expensive (about the price of a game when I got it) and it'll at least double the space you have for games so you don't have to keep offloading them to hard drives or deleting and redownloading them over and over. Pick this up if that's what you're looking for.

The Crucial P5 Plus Gaming Solution is a Gen4 NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD drive that will out perform any other SSD in its price range, period. I have a nicely built gaming PC that already used another 2TB Gen 4 SSD from a main competitor and my motherboard had an open slot for more room. At the price point of the Crucial P5 Plus, it was a no brainer to choose the brand when upgrading the available space on the PC for more gaming. The Crucial P5 clams a Read speed of 6,600 MB/s and a Write speed of 5,000 MB/s and I was not expecting to find at this price, the claims to be so true. After install, I did a read and write test once the drive was setup and compared it to the other "W" brand drive I already use. I will say, both have integrated heat sinks and at the same Gen 4x4 NVMe specs, just the size and brand are different. The Following are actual test results using CrystalDisk Mark Crucial P5 - Sequential Read 6746 / Sequential Write 4986 "W" Brand - Sequential Read 5985 / Sequential Write 3944 The Crucial Brand wins the Read/Write speed test hands down in my book. I then decided to transfer one of my Sim racing games over to the P5 to test performance and watch the monitors I have setup to try and catch errors, heat issues and any glitches. After 5 hours straight racing in a LeMans race, the drive never exceeded the max temps the "W" brand showed in the past and I never had any issues whatsoever. Using the Crucial Brand instead of the other has shown me names mean nothing, look at the total package. The only downside to the Crucial is the way it looks, the heat sink is pretty blah with the logo very prominent, it is not as eye pleasing in my case but it does not make me want to buy another brand, just hope they maybe think about a little darker lettering or maybe just the name on the front. All in all, the Crucial P5 Plus is a great SSD and I plan in the future adding more Crucial products when upgrading one of my 7 PCs in the house.

Consistently fast performance thanks to heatsink

I installed this Crucial P5 Plus SSD in my PC with hopes that the included heatsink would improve consistency with large file transfers over the less expensive SSD it is replacing. Fortunately, the Crucial P5 Plus proved to meet my expectations for performance as it does not suffer from degradation as the SSD sees a large number of writes. Unfortunately, the PC I installed this in only supports PCIe 3.0 so I can't confirm whether it holds up as well at the max throughput of the drive, but at the 3500+ MBps I was getting with PCIe 3 I can definitely say this is a huge improvement over a drive that isn't much cheaper at today's NVMe prices. Often when writing large video projects to NVMe I end up seeing speeds drop considerably after about 50-100GB and that did not happen with this drive. I suspect once you saturate the heatsink you could see a drop in performance but that might be difficult to do before you run out of storage space overall. Likewise, one of the toughest operations for my SSDs is actually just doing game patching in Steam, and here I did not see constant drops where the drive write speed fell off a cliff while waiting to cool down. Kudos to Crucial for getting a product out with a small heatsink at a really reasonable price. If you are a PC or PS5 gamer this seems like a really good pick.

I know a lot of people buy this to upgrade the digital PS5 from 512GB to 1TB but I already have a 1TB PS5. So my intention was to upgrade my 512GB Asus ROG Zephyrus 14 laptop to 1TB. I cloned my laptop drive with MiniTool partition manager, which only took 12 minutes. So far, so good. Then I ran into trouble. After dissembling my laptop to remove the 512GB SSD, I popped in the new Crucial P5 and it was a hair too thick with the heatsink. So I tried to remove the screws for the heatsink and it was still glued on. I then tried to install it into an external case and the screws prevented it from seating completely. I was able to carve out some of the plastic of my external case and get it to sit flush, but the cover wouldn’t go on. At this point I was 0/2 and wondering where I’d use this drive. I ended up putting it in a NUC server I had built last year with a 256GB stick in it. Tests show the drive is ultra fast, even when copying 200GB of assorted data. All told, the drive is from my number one trusted brand but just make sure it’ll fit where you want to install it. The heatsink increases the thickness by at least 300%.

I was very happy for the feel and style of this drive.  It does not feel cheap and when used it delivers.  It was surprisingly inexpensive for the performance technology delivered.  I think it out of the box gives dual functionality between using it in your computer or in a PS5.  I always think it is interesting there is no extra screw included with this drive.  I think that is pretty standard but seems odd for what is being delivered and what you are buying.  It needs the screw to be installed.  The performance is on par with similar type of drives for gen4.  I would say that most people will naybe take a slight performance hit when using it with an older system for example but in the PS5 it should be on par with anything out there.  It does work well for exactly what it is marketed for but if you elect to use it in your computer or laptop the extra heatsink may present a challenge if you have certain motherboards or an ultra thin laptop and want to use it.  I would recommend this for most computer users and PS5 users who want the speed and extra size.
