Great hard drive, small and fast! I like the light, blinks when data is being transferred

I've been relying on the Crucial X9 Pro to handle my video editing file backups, and I must say it's been a worthy investment. When dealing with hefty video files, its rapid read and write speeds combined with the convenience of the USB-C interface have significantly slashed the time it takes to transfer data, and at this point I've even started storing some main libraries on this without any performance decline.
I also appreciate its rugged and robust design that lends a sense of security – I often carry it around in a backpack, and knowing that it can withstand a bit of rough handling is nice.
In a nutshell, the Crucial X9 Pro has emerged as a dependable and high-performing external SSD catering to the needs of video editors and content creators like myself. Its speed, sturdiness, and data security features coalesce to offer a compelling solution for maintaining the safety and accessibility of video projects, both during travel and in day-to-day usage. If you're in the market and you want something that's not big, has excellent capacity then look no further!

I bought this as a backup drive for the hundreds of thousands of files of all types that I’ve accumulated.
I wasn’t going to buy it since Crucial deceptively claimed password protected hardware encryption when they have yet to issue the software to make it work. The encryption options on other brands have some issues as well, and since I recently upgraded to Windows Pro, I opted to buy this drive because of it’s small size and use Bitlocker for encryption.
Previously I used the very good, free and open source Veracrypt on all my drives, but Windows 11 inexcusably trashes the Veracrypt boot loader with every monthly update, so I gave up fighting with it. Microsoft could play well with Veracrypt if it wanted to, or they could be decent and make Bitlocker available on all versions of Windows, but user security is clearly not their priority. I hate Windows 11.
All that said, Bitlocker To Go with Windows Pro works seamlessly for external drives, although it’s not clear that it takes advantage of the Crucial hardware encryption. The drive itself is shockingly tiny and weightless, even though I knew the dimensions in advance. It feels sturdy enough, but given it’s cost, probably best stored in some sort of protection.
Despite the many complaints about the short cable, I have no problems with it, and, given the size of the drive, a longer one with add too much bulk. Even the short cable feels a bit bulky as it’s rather stiff. It works fine otherwise.
I use it with a Thunderbolt 4 port, and overall the drive feels fast, but I expected it would be somewhat faster. File size makes a big difference, as do sustained transfers. Speeds reported by Windows varied from under 100mbs to over 500. It never came near the maximum rated speed. The drive only gets slightly warm, and I suspect that the thermal management is aggressive. The transfer graph shows lots of peaks and valleys, and a few pauses. Bitlocker may take a toll as well. I experienced no disconnects, unlike the many I get with other SSDs in cheap external cases.
So far I’m pretty happy with the drive, although not with the price, which was lower in the past. There are cheaper alternatives for those on a budget.

I had been trying to use a My Passport to free up space on my phone from all of my photos. I was having difficulty with the process so I pulled up a UTube video on how to save my photos over to the device. On the UTube video it was showing the Crucial Pro Series X9 Pro device and how easy it was to use that device for my photo storage instead. So I went to Best Buy & bought it and have been using it since. It is so much easier, quicker, & less confusing for me to use. I highly recommend it!

The Crucial X9 Pro 2TB impresses with its high-speed performance and ample storage capacity. Its sleek design and robust build make it a reliable external SSD. The transfer speeds are noteworthy, offering swift data access for large files and seamless multitasking. The X9 Pro's compatibility with various devices adds to its versatility. While it comes at a premium price, the combination of speed, durability, and capacity justifies the investment for users seeking top-tier external storage solutions.

Surprisingly small SSD with great capacity. When NVME SSDs first started to be released I think most people wondered why traditionally sized external SSDs were still relevant, but now we finally get mini, USB-C external SSDs that are both rugged and inexpensive. The entire SSD is smaller than my credit card and the entire line of Crucial SSDs are worth the purchase. Literally plug and play.
