I have a window with non-removable bars across it, so I needed a free-standing unit. This one, I'm sorry to say, is a MAJOR disappointment. Not only is it drastically underpowered -- my room is only 140 sq ft and it can only drop the temperature maybe five or six degrees on a hot day -- but it requires nearly constant attention to keep it running.
This is NOT a self-evaporating unit, so the water from the air that condenses inside the unit is collected in a drip tray, which basically has to be emptied every three hours or so or the unit stops running. Don't expect to be able to leave the unit running while you sleep; it'll shut off after a couple of hours and you'll wake up stuck to the sheets. (It's possible to connect it to a hose for continuous draining, but there's no pump, so it can only drain downhill -- and since the hose connection is about eight inches off the ground, good luck finding a convenient place to drain it to).
Furthermore, the hot-air exhaust hose is EXTREMELY poorly designed, and routinely falls off the back of the unit; I've had to duct-tape it in place and it STILL works its way free occasionally, and starts spewing hot air out the back of the unit into the room, thereby canceling out any meager temperature drop I'd accomplished. Literally AS I WAS TYPING THIS REVIEW it did it again for the third time in an hour, despite the tape!
If it wasn't too late to return this unit, I absolutely would; as it stands, I'm going to have to sell it for a loss and buy a through-the-wall unit that can both vent and draw air from the back. With the bars being where they are, it'll stick about a foot into my room, but better that than putting up with this thing all through a long, hot summer. If you absolutely have to have a portable unit, spend the money on a self-evaporating unit or just come up with another idea, because you'll be cursing yourself if you try to live with this one.

Way Too Loud

I bought this one at the Palo Alto store but should have read the reviews first. The cooler motor whined all night! This type of model was the only one for sliding windows, which is an extremely prevelant type of window in the San Francisco Bay Area. The instructions describe the importance of getting the water bucket and hose connected correctly or else there will be a flood, but I found the instructions on how to hook up the hose to the water bucket not helpful and lacking specificity and accuracy. I'm returning it to the store today (the store has a 30-day return policy) and ordering a better one online.

Moved to an appartment complex where they dont allow you to use a window ac. But I put mine on anyways which was a 6000btu lg window ac which cool the room pretty good nice and cold. However I was fined by the appartment $50 for violating the rules, long story short I purchased this Ac thinking that was going to be even cooler since it was 7000btu was easy to set up but wow nothing doesnt get cool at all and its to loud. I dont mind the noise but I want my product to work my room size is 12x12 and nothing please dont waste your time buying this you will be back to the store the next day returning it

The Danby 7000 BTU portable air conditioner says it will cool up to 250 sq ft., but after running an hour, my bedroom is only moderately cool. Reading reviews after buying the AC, I discovered that portables need a lot more BTU to cool the same space than window units do. It has wheels, but it's not really portable beyond the length of the 6 ft cord, and setting it up in another room is a lot of trouble (requires setting up a window to vent the hot air out in AC mode). I'd be better off with a smaller (MUCH cheaper) window unit.

I would not recommend this unit at all. I had the intention of using it on a small bedroom (less than 140 sq ft) and it was unable to cool the room after running for three hours. It is also extremely loud and cheaply made. The remote control is convoluted and only displays temperature settings in Celsius. I replaced this AC with a 6,000 BTU window unit and despite being 1,000 BTU lower, it cooled the room to an acceptable temperature within 15 minutes and froze the room out within 25 minutes.

I bought this unit because it said it can cool up to 250 sq. ft. My room is not that large (about 150 sq. ft.) and I had it on high and the room was hardly cool. I put the temp at 62 degrees and my room was still 77 degrees and humid (I like it cold and dry). About every 3 hours I had to drain the bucket. I attached a hose to the direct drain hose and it leaked all over my carpet and the water still collected in the bucket. I was only able to keep cool when I was directly in front of it. I was not able to keep it on overnight because the bucket would get full and I would wake up in the middle of the night and the room would be real hot. Not worth the price and the effort especially if you live in a hot area. If you don't mind emptying the bucket ever couple of hours, this unit is for you. Better off getting a unit with self evaporation.

Well, yes its heavy, yes u have to drain out the water at least every 4-5 hrs., but if u have a small room it will cool it down.
Easy to install , and has given me no issues at all.
I would recommended to a friend only if they have a slide window.

I just purchased this air conditioner and I have a few complaints about it, first one being its not strong. I believe if you keep it in a very small room it will do the job but by no means a large room, the room I have it in is large and its off the kitchen so I cant close off the room. I wish I had the one that was 12,000 BTU'S
then I think it would work better. Some complaints I have is you have to keep emptying the water pan about every 3 hours and thats a pain, I wish I had the one that you don't have to do that. The hose was VERY difficult to put on and it kept falling off we finally had to use packing tape on it to keep it from falling off. Other than that its fine, its very quiet and I like that. If you buy this air conditioner just make sure its in a small room or its not the only air conditioner in your home

I put this unit in my bedroom, thinking it would be better than the 5,000btu window unit. I was sadly mistaken it was loud, took forever to cool, u gotta empty water like ur in a sinking boat. My window unit didnt have a remote, so when it got too cold I had to get up and shut it off, not with this unit I was still sweating thru 90% of the night.

Horrible Product

I paid over 350 after tax for this product and it works worse than my old $80, 5,000 btu window unit. It isn't able to keep my 12x11 room cooled in 80 degree weather. The remote doesn't work well with the AC, and it is only in Celsius. I already threw away the box, but would defiantly return the product if i still had it.

I use it in my room. I don't have a window. only a Balcony door. I was able to use the window installation for my balcony door. This product is pretty loud. But it does its job. I feel the temperature drop when i use it. Only the Remote displays the temperature in Celsius. The AC itself shows it in Fahrenheit. I'm glad i have it for the upcoming Heat Wave!

I live in northern california on the sanfrancisco bay.. and i'm one of those people who can't stand it when it gets above 72, so at the end of the week, it has been in the high 80s and low 90s.. so with friday off.. I just had to get an AC unit but my apt has slider windows, and doesnt' allow window units. Anyway this has been working very well in my bedroom.... and has been keeping it cool all day long.

Works great, easy to move from room to room, cools a room in an efficient amount of time, the dehumidifer works good but recommend to use the water hose line hose to avoid emptying water holder, overall I really like the performance of this compact and portable unit.

This is an amazing product. Honestly theres no point in cooling your whole home if your only in one room.
