I was not prepared to enjoy this movie as much as I did. It may have been the biggest surprise of the year for me. I am a fan of historical drama when done well. What I was not prepared for was the humanity of the characters that came out in excellent writing. Someone said it was slow and I did not feel that was justified. Not all movies have to have action and things blowing up. The art of subtlety has been lost on the current generation. It helped that I had seen Dunkirk so I knew about the historical context. Since that was such an emotional movie I felt for the struggle of Churchill here. Oldman was amazing and deserved the awards he received for this undertaking. It is dark and brooding and makes you feel what the period demanded.

This is an excellent movie . The acting is great !

What a critical period in world history to cover and how wrong it all could have gone if Churchill had not prevented the dam from bursting. Gary Oldman imbues the role of the British prime minister with rough edges, strength and vulnerability. You know exactly what is going on in his mind when he calls to cajole FDR into assistance and action, and feel the reaction when the call is over. One can only hope that Churchill's gift for oratory and prophecy remains true when he once proclaimed: "You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing after they have tried everything else." Then, as now, let us hope that moment doesn't come too late for us to make a difference in keeping this world safe and habitable for the future.

I’m not a fan of the study of history. I know the basics but not the details. This movie, however, made me want to study more about this critical time during WWII. I had purchased the movie Dunkirk as well. I started watching it and stopped because it was not making sense to me. After watching Darkest Hour, Dunkirk becomes an amazing and exciting film to view. Watch this movie first! Quality and transfer is amazing. The sets are beautiful and authentic. The acting of course is award worthy. Buy this now!! I promise you will not be bored with this lesson in history!

Any fan of Churchill or WWII history buff should buy this movie. The transformation of Gary Oldman is truly Oscar worthy!

Historical view into a quizzical man. His toughness on policy and the characters around him. A good sturdy film.

This film is one of the most riveting performances by Gary Oldman. He is beyond amazing as Winston Churchill. A period piece from the most terrifying days of WWII for the world and the British Isles. Air raids. German bombs destroying London and so many other places. The terror. What Churchill did during this time showed true leadership, something we could certainly use these days. This is one of my favorite films. I love Oldman but in this role, he becomes Winston. I was telling a friend just yesterday about the Darkest Hour. A must see!! You won't regret it.

Stellar acting. A deep dive into the life of Winston Churchill during the time of Dunkirk.

This is a real native 4K master, not some 1080 upscale like most others. The picture is truly gorgeous. The movie is also suspenseful very good. It is about how Great Britain had to struggle with its leadership after they began getting attacked in WWII. Chamberlain wanted to negotiate, but the Germans wanted to bomb them. Time to bring in Winston Churchill played by Oldman. He is so good at this charter it is unbelievable. No wonder he got the best actor award. One of the best performances of all time. Highly recommended if you are interested in WWII history.
