    A Gary Oldman classic

Excellent story of a truly remarkable man, who helped change the world. Winston Churchill was a brave and strong but complicated man and this story of events leading to his now famous speech to Parliament is well know. Whats not is some of the more intimate details of his reluctant rise to power and the adversaries he had to face. Gary Oldman is incredible and brings every bit of his prestige to the role. The makeup work is also impeccable.

Once again Gary Oldman gives a great performance as Winston Churchill. Detail on this disc is impeccable from start to finish. It's just gorgeous. It isn't rich with HDR bold colors but it is natural and warm at times and when the HDR does pop you will notice it. If your a fan of history this is a must watch. The Dolby Atmos is serviceable for this type of film. This is not an action flick but heavy on dialogue.

Winston Churchill is a figure larger than life in history, and this movie covers just a piece of his life when he rose to the Prime Minister position through the rescue of the military members at Dunkirk in the Second World War. The movie appears to be very true to the events of the day and his character. Captivating portrayals of the English figures of the day.

WOW! Any history person should enjoy this movie! Gary Oldman said great things about the United States when he accepted his Academy Award, one of the few with favorable comments about our country - and those comments came from and Englishman! The movie itself tells the actual story from documented events and speeches and diaries! One of the best movies I have ever seen!

Really enjoyed this movie. It’s not the fastest paced movie but very informative. Really provides a clear picture of WWII England. The political backstabbing and posturing was interesting to watch. Watching Churchill requesting assistance from Roosevelt was moving. The best scene in the movie was when Churchill asked some citizens of London their opinion on things. Just outstanding. Strongly recommend the movie.

The best portrayal of Churchill ever. Even the Churchill family said Gary Oldman's representation of the great man was outstanding. Movie centres on a very short period of time in UK history. An often overlooked period but a most important one with a clear message. Something current politicians should head. Generally historically accurate except Churchill never travelled on the tube. Buy this movie for your collection.

Gary Oldman does a great job of depicting Winston Churchill and it's interesting to see a depiction of the other main characters of that place and time (Anthony Eden, Neville Chamberlain, George VI, etc.). There's not a huge amount about the war itself, more about the "inside baseball" (or maybe I should say "inside cricket" ??) info on the machinations of the British government of that era. Definitely worth seeing.

Old man is a sculptor and actor

I say Gary Oldman is a sculptor because of his most uncanny ability to mold himself to a character physically as well as psychologically. His portrayal of a man who ruled a nation from his bed having breakfast with brandy. He was a man who appeared indolent at first but who proved a vigorous leader that raised his country’s spirit amazingly. He brought to my mind the rousing speeches in Shakespeare’s Henry V.

This film concerns the first few weeks of Winston Churchill as prime minister of England. Gary Oldman plays Churchill. His performance is outstanding. He captures Churchill's appearance and language perfectly. The film concerns Churchill's decisions regarding several hundred thousand soldiers who have been pushed to Dunkirk by the Germans. People should watch the film to learn what Churchill decides.

It is the Dawn of WWII with Germany invading all of Europe. England now stands alone and Churchill (Gary Oldman) is appointed Prime Minister of England. Winston Churchill now faces the most important decision of his life, negotiate a peace treaty with Hitler or stand firm against Germany's tyranny. With his own party against him he must rally his people and fight for the future survival of England.

Just watched it last night and thought it was better than the Shape of Water, which won, and Three Billboards, which I thought should have one. Gary Oldman was spectacular and the whole story was gripping. For a native 4K scan, I have seen better, better the picture was still quite good. There were a lot of smokey scenes, but this is still better than all of the 1080 upscales.

If you are looking for mindless violence courtesy of Hollywood hypocrites then this is not for you. If, however, you wish to watch a thoughtfully produced and acted movie about one of the most historic times in our life time or that of your parents, by all means get out the popcorn.
