A simple movie that's fun to watch!

I'm not sure why this movie has gotten less than stellar reviews? For the genre that it's in, it does exactly what it supposed to do! It gives you a monster you're supposed to fight, you fight it, and you win.
Either way, I enjoy watching this film. One of the reasons is that it's a short film, and doesn't try to be something that it's not. I enjoyed the story, the characters, the acting, the visuals.
The Blu-ray looks excellent, And the audio sounds great! I re-purchases this Blu-ray so I can get it in 3-D, and at the time, Best Buy was selling it for a very good price. The downside of this, is that I still don't have a 3-D TV, so I'm sorry, but I can't review this aspect of the disk.
It has a number of small featurette's as extras. And I did listen to the audio commentary by the director, which I enjoyed very much. Both 3-D and 2-D are on the same disk. You also may be interested to know, that the movie was actually shot in 3-D, and not converted. Also, that was actually shot in Russia.
So what am I saying? I'm saying that if you like this genre of movie, you should really enjoy this one! And I only gave this four stars, because I can't review the 3-D for you. Otherwise, I would give it a five!

Great series available in a 4 disc bluray set. Available with the theatrical and unrated versions plus extra features. The case itself is on the bigger side similar to a Criterion bluray case has a slipcover. Although these aren't full restorations the picture quality is better then the DVDS. These are the best in the series the other spin offs although worth a laugh aren't the origanals. Well worth the $17.99 I paid for them. Pick it up if your a fan of the series.

Produced by Kazakh filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov (from the interesting Nightwatch franchise) this movie is nothing special but is surely an entertaining outing. Among the plus: the survivors escaping from the aliens in a desolate Moscow, including empty landmarks like The Kremlin and Moscow State University. Among the minus: some of the special effects are really cheesy.

I never heard of this movie until I seen it in the store and based off a sales associates advice, I purchased the movie. I was very surprised of how much I enjoyed this movie. Has a good plot and a nice pace/flow to the story line. I thought the acting was good and very well done visual effects. Good movie at a great price.

When commercials ran for The Darkest Hour as it hit theaters, I was pretty excited about it. Looked really cool and had a good cast I thought at the time. When I finally saw the film, it has some really interesting and tense moments as we follow our heroes around Moscow as they figure out what is going on and how to avoid the alien invaders. As the movie progresses, it becomes formulaic and paint by numbers. Overall, not a bad alien invasion story, good effects and good acting make this a worthwhile addition to any sci fi geek's collection.

For a sci-fi movie, look elsewhere for something better. The characters were not engaging enough for me to actually care about them, so that killed the movie for me right there. This movie could have been so much better with an improved plot and script. The special effects were good, the aliens were scary (for the brief times that you'd actually see them), and the actors were adequate. Also, the ending was unsatisfying. Technically, the blu ray picture and audio was excellent. For $5, I got what I paid for. I would not pay full price for this movie.

The movie in itself is slow at parts and I had seen it before in it's standard version. I can now tell that it was made for 3D and since I purchased this 3D version I see the movie in a whole different way. The 3D is outstanding and well worth the 5 bucks I paid to watch it in 3D. man I love 3D

Firstly, we got this bluray at an amazing price as it was on sale. We liked the plot about aliens invading earth for its natural resources but would have been a better movie if it had more budget to show the devastation and fighting in a larger scale. Overall, it's still very entertaining.

Another alien ivation movie, like the new approach of the invasion and design of the aliens. The plot was understandable but poorly executed, the acting was not great but ok to bad. The idea has great potential but it felt that it was rush or had missing scenes. Could have been better so it was ok simply because it felt original.

The 3D is good in this movie though a lot of the film is at night. Night scenes in 3D are darker than normal due to the glasses. The plot of the film is decent and I think it is an overall good SciFi story.

I originally watched this movie on a DVD I rented. Having not heard anything about the movie I selected it based on the plot outline and strength of the cast that I recognized. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the movie and when the opportunity to view it in blu ray came along I wanted to see it in the higher definition format. The movie is only that much better in blu ray especially some of the scenes with electrical charges against the dark back drops. It's a fun movie in general and better in the blu ray format.

I thought the 3D was pretty strong in this and it is native and not converted, the movie itself was not a blockbuster by any standard but it held my attention and I will be viewing it again.

I think this movie is really underrated! It's not excellent by any means but it is not awful. It's just a mindless and fun sci-fi movie that entertains you from beginning to end.

Alien effects were creative and somewhat original, 3-D effects were so so but the originality of the story made up for it. Sci-Fi buffs should enjoy this entry into the genre

I really wanted this movie to be awesome after seeing the previews and to me it was, But I like these kind of cheesy sci-fi movies. The effects were great but the story seems to kind of get lost in what it wants to tell and the ending is a little predicatble and lame but overall a good one to own for 3d purposes!

The Darkest Hour is a solid sci-fi movie any science fiction fan should enjoy. Looks great on bluray. Both the 2D and 3D versions of the movie on one disc.
