I liked the art for other Pop Art steelbooks, but this is one of the two where there are multiple editions to contend with. Thankfully, Sony and Best Buy have done the right thing by including the complete two-disc edition, which includes the longer Director's Cut of the film. It would've been easy to go the cheaper route and include the more common one-disc edition, but I'm glad they didn't. I also wish all of the Pop Art Steelbooks took a cue from this one: Das Boot is the only one where the art was long enough to cover the entire front and back cover, meaning it's the only one with art visible on the spine, and something other than a zoomed in portion of the art on the back cover.

As you know always, this movie is well known submarine movie. Not only for war movie, it is also about the humanity movie. It focuses on individual crews in the submarine. In some sense, it is anti-war movie. Clear and sharp screen, considering the year this movie was shot.

I remember seeing this film when originally released. The extra footage makes the experience much longer, but more complete. I first tried the English dub, but found the original German with subtitles more fulfilling. I watched this film with my sons after a Cub Scout overnight on a U.S. WWII sub. While some material not best for the younger ones, overall was suitable especially in the right context. Good sub woofer content for those with suitable equipment, but some other films are better in this regard.

This classy steel book includes both discs and thus has the (in my opinion) superior theatrical cut. Much more visceral experience. And given the going price of the two disc set originally released this is a great way to get the theatrical cut.

Picture quality was great . skin tones were natural. Sound was muscular. The two different versions of the movie were available with a great documentary and informative commentary track.

I got this edition just for the steelbook. really good film, it comes with both the extended director's cut and regular. Worth it.

Das Boot is simply one of the greatest films of all time. The filmmaking and deft handling makes the viewer feel as if they're in the sub themselves. Highly recommended.

The steelbooks are the way to go for quality collections. Das Boot is one of the best WW2 films to depict actual submarine conditions. A long film, but a must-see.

I first saw this movie while attending Iowa State University in the early 80's. Thought it was a great film. The version I saw was German with English subtitles.

This movie is one of the best movies about a team and there submarine. Well written, well acted, well directed and great acting make this movie good.

This is just a classic war-time film that needs to be in every history buff's collection. The artsy steelbook sold me on this one.
