I have been pleasantly surprised by this series which I missed during it's initial run on HBO. It feels dirty and gritty, almost like being in the actual Deadwood. Hard times called for hard people and that is the cast of characters that populate the Deadwood landscape. I knew Wild Bill dies but being a Keith Caradine fan was a little disappointed when he passed so early in the series. Beyond that small issue I can find no fault in the series, solid writing, direction, production values and acting. I am very impressed with the series.

this is the complete first season of Deadwood. It is great for anyone who loves western movies. The actors are extremely talented and believable. Sometimes the scenes can be a little vulgar but if you read anything about the Wild West it's accurate. A little embellished but accurate.

After watching the first season I glad I got the 2nd can't wait to watch the 3rd too. I and just loved it. I had no problems with the disks or Best Buy's shipping.

Deadwood is a very good series. If you have not watched it yet, you really should. The acting is phenomenal.

The language probably doesn't fit, but the story and the characters could not have done it better. Love the series

Deadwood is in fact a real town in the Black Hills . But what i liked the most about this HBO show was the fact that it was gritty The town was dirty and muddy , it looks like a work in progress . Not like the sets on shows like Gun Smoke and Bonanza Thay were way too clean to have been an old west town . On those shows all the fokes had on clean pressd shirts and they took a bath every day . Not in Deadwood The fokes are much like the town gritty and dirty and the men are just plain ruthless. It would have been nice to have had two or three more seasons of the show but if you have not seen Deadwood make it a point to sit down and enjoy a good old wild west show the way it was meant to have been portrayed

Deadwood is not the "John Wayne' style 'cowboy' movie for sure! And I wouldn't recommend the series for young people, but for the grown ups; this series is addicting!! I ended up watching the entire first season in one sitting,,,then got my Husband and Children ( both almost 30 now! LOL) hooked as well! The next day,,,I went back to Best Buy and purchased the additional seasons! I LOVE IT! Anticipating season 4 now....

I have read some of the reviews. The only thing that I can say productively is that if the graphic nature of past social culture offends you stay in your homes and turn all modern day appliances and entertainment systems off never to appear in public again. THIS WAS A GOOD SERIES, PUT ON BY VERY TALENTED RECOGNIZED ACTORS.

My husband saw this on HBO years ago. We checked it out at out local library recently, watched it all, but DVD's were very scratched. We purchased from Best Buy and will watch many times over.
