Customers are saying

Customers value the superb sound quality and aesthetically pleasing design of the 3-1/2" Surround Loudspeakers. Many also appreciate the affordable price and ease of installation. However, some customers noted that the speakers are somewhat large and heavy, which may be a consideration for certain installations. The positive feedback on sound quality significantly outweighs concerns about size and weight.

Got these for free with a package promotion and couldn't be happier. Truly gives you a theater experience. A tad bit big and heavy but great sound.

The bi-polar nature of these speakers is perfect for my surround system. I use these as my side speakers. They are paired with the 8040-ST up front, Mythos 3 center, and 2 Mythos Gem XLs for the rear. It is a great full sounding system.

These are excellent surround speakers. They are relatively small but handle a lot of power. These put the Polk speakers they replaced to shame and mount on the wall easily.

I bought the Deftech SR-8040BP speakers to replace my full size Martin Logan Request 2 speakers that I was using for side surrounds. Although the Martins have sound that can't be beat, they are too big for my listening room. Also, in some surround sound situations, where the rear channels are used intermittently (most movies provide a constant ambient sound signal to the rear channels), there is a slight delay before the electrostatic panels come to full charge. This causes a slight clipping at the beginning of rear channel output. I use older Deftech BP2's as my rear surround channels. The SR-8040BPs blend perfectly with them for a very seamless rear sound stage. The Deftechs provide very linear sound that accurately reproduces the movie sound director's intent. The SR-8040BPs are also nice and compact, so mounting them on the wall is easy and unobtrusive. Of course you will need to use a subwoofer or full size main speakers to produce the bottom end. I recommend a crossover of 100-120Hz.. One note to potential buyers, the 8040s are surround speakers and should not be used as main font channel speakers. The sound pattern is typical of a true bipolar (equal sound level from each side) speaker - meaning very diffuse. Deftech makes dedicated bipolar front channel speakers that have reduced output to the rear drivers. This allows a sharper sound focus than what you get from true bipolar speakers like the SR-8040BPs. In a surround sound movie environment, diffuse is what you want. Otherwise, the sound is too easily detected as coming from an individual speaker. The SR-8040BP is perfect as a surround speaker.

I purchased a pair of SR-8040BP for front effects speakers in my Media room (9.2 channel). After listening tests these were much better sounding, good surround with the angled bi-polar speaker arrangement so i had to replace my Rear surround, rear effects speakers so that all matched. Built Very solid and look great with the Piano Gloss Black finish.

I needed surround speakers for a large family room: 20x20 feet, 22 feet high. Originally, I tried non bipolar speakers, which sounded decent but didn't fill the room enough. I tested these versus the originals and had family members give their opinion. It was unanimous the SR-8040BP's had better presence and overall sound. Highly recommended for the price.

These speakers are great. A huge improvement from my HTIB system. Love the fact I don't need a separate subwoofer.

I upgraded from some small cheap speakers I was using for my middle speakers in a 7.1 setup. These speakers sound so much better. The sound is coming from the front and rear, which causes the sound to come at you from all directions. One thing I heard a few weeks ago while I was talking to the sales person is that these speakers are going to be discontinued. I really hope this is not the case because they sound great.

After having these speakers in my home for a while, I can say they are fantastic! They are quite a bit smaller than my original surrounds, but the sound is much more pronounced. Better detail, clarity, and volume. I've owned Def Techs before, and these are the best I've heard.

We purchased these for our home theater as back speakers as recommended and now I don't think we will ever watch movies at the theater. Great sound quality, also purchased with the front speakers as well.

I bought these speakers to go with my mythos ST-L super towers and they work great, so much so that my significant other was scared when the first gun shots rang over her head watching lone survivor. To say they bring sound to life is an understatement!

These speakers are amazing! They are light weight and look great on our wall. I'm blown away at how they add depth to our surround sound. They even add effects like sound coming from behind you. We love our Definitive speakers.

Is still fairly new to use. So far what we have watched and listened to has been very vibrant and crisp. Really like the look of these speakers. Looking forward to many enjoyable movie nights with family.

These bipolar speakers fill the room with crisp sound! I was very impressed at how clear the voices are on these. I'm planning on buying 2 more to replace some old Sony floor speakers.

These are great little speakers for surround sound duty. My Marantz SR5010 can really make them sing or boom. The bipolar design is especially useful as surround speakers as it really disperses the sound into the room. They don't reach super low, my AVR calculated them to a 150Hz crossover. But set them to "small" and let your sub handle the low duties. They match up great to my DefTech BP-8040ST fronts and C-8040HD center.
