Great Sub at a Great Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This sub is being used in a small bedroom 5.1 audio setup, and I feel that this is important for those of you reading this review. The sub itself is smaller than most and yet has many high end features to it such as the LFE out and gain dial options on the back. There's a volume dial on the side that's also nice for quick and easy adjustability, and there's always the AV receiver that can handle power output adjustments to the sub for extra fine tuning as well. Bass will add so much to the dynamics of your TV shows, movies and or gaming experience if you're not already used to having it. The Pro 800 has more than enough power to rattle all of my shot glasses off of the wall and then some. There are always other brands out there to look at, and for many out there, $400 for a subwoofer may be at the extreme end of your budget. I suggest however that you give it a try as this little guy really can deliver when it comes to sound output. Again, if you're not used to hearing much bass in your every day audio/video entertainment, then be prepared to be blown away. I've had this sub since about April of 2010, and have had zero issues with the unit at all. I have a feeling that if you purchase one of these subs that you're going to quickly fall in love with it. Definitive Technology produces some very nice quality products, and I for one am a big fan of their speakers. As for subs in this price range, I really don't think that the Pro 800 can be beat. They're very durable and should offer up many many years of satisfaction in your home.

Can Anybody Compete at this price point?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I started with a $150.00 subwoofer (private label through Circuit city). It was rated a 4.8 out of 5 so I gave it shot. Everbody said "great sub for the money". Well it was just that, it was extremely muddy sounding. Then I went to a Klipsh Synergy 10" for $280. Again great reviews, plus it was $120 off the $399 retail. Much clearer in sound, great power and fills the room BUT the sub had terrible definition for bass guitar. Sooo I finally just stepped it up and spent the extra buck to go to the Definitive Tech ProSub 800. WOW what a difference! Not only did the bass rolloff like a waterfall but the definition was perfection. The funniest thing is that this has to be the SMALLEST, MOST, POWERFUL sub on the market. Everything I saw was obnoxious in size...this thing is so small! So if you aren't able to hide your sub behind anything, this unit can easily be out in the open and not be a distraction. My sub is paired up with(2) ProMontior 800 front speakers and Yamaha V663 receiver. I also had (2) existing in-wall Jamo speakers for surround. All together the system sounds phenomonal for music...plus its all so small and clean looking. I have an open concept space (vaulted ceiling and loft). Combo great room and dining room is about 525 sq. ft and the sound radiants thougout the space. I would highly recommend this sub for $399, personally I think they could get away with $499 since it offers premium bass definition in such a industry leading small size.

Pleasantly surprised!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With new SM350s, my old Velodyne CHT-10 was showing its limitations -- a lot of bass but not very clear. All other speakers in my living room are Def Techs, and they are great, so I wanted to go with Def Tech for the sub as well. After a few auditions in Magnolia, was assuming I'd go with a SuperCube III, but wondered if that would be overkill in my small living room, and at a hefty price -- decided to give the ProSub 800 a try at home, assuming that I'd return it and get the Supercube -- but to my surprise, the 800 blends very well with the 350s, sounds very natural. I don't care that much about rattling the walls and feeling like a tank is going through my house with movies, just wanted to hear good, crisp lows in music and realistic sound effects in movies. This sub does the job, and at a fair price. I'm very happy that I gave this sub a try!

Great Sound - Deep Rich Bass
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a Mirage Sub Woofer that I was using with my Mirage Surround speakers - the Mirage Sub Woofer died last week and I needed a good replacement. Best Buy Magnolia to the rescue. After doiing a bit of research here and on other sites, I chose the Definitive Technolgy Pro Sub 800. and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The sound I get in my surround system is complete, full and rich. The bass from the Sub Woofer completes the system nicely without over powering it. I am very pleased. Great Price and Great Product.

Unbelievable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first component home theater system I have ever built. I listened to so many different sub’s and for the price and size this thing is way better then any I found even better then some 10in 12in subs. I am so amazed at how low this sub will go and how loud it is. If you’re looking for a huge bang in a small size this is it. And as I said it’s even better then allot of the bigger subs on the market

Nice sub, excellent manufacturer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this as part of a package with MITS TV and Pioneer BD at xmas 09. This sub is quite strong. Sounds good and bass is tight. I wasn't familiar with Deftech prior to this sub, and I'm glad I'm familiar with them now. They make outstanding speakers. With the proper AVR you can tune this to be subtle bass addition or to vibrate the walls. It does get a bit distorted if you play it too loudly. Just take the time to tune your system and you'll be quite happy.

Awesome Sub!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We installed a middle-range system in our small living room (a Marantz NR1402 250W receiver and two MartinLogan Motion floor speakers) to go with our 55" Sony Bravia TV, and it was great sound, but we knew a subwoofer would be the icing on the cake. The Geek Squad installer had a Def. Tech. ProSub 800 on-hand in his truck. He installed it for us to show the difference in sound, and WOW, it's amazing! And after having it almost two months, it's all broken in now, and it catches every low noise the movies and music have. I didn't know what I've been missing all these years, sound wise. It's just amazing and I couldn't suggest it more, especially for a smaller room that's not more than 400 ft. square.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sub to my computer 7.1 system blew out and I needed to replace it. Having now been through two of these type subs, I decided it was time for a change, so I wanted to go with one desgned for a home theatre system rather than a computer. I looked online at my local Best Buy and the subs I wanted to look at were listed as not available, or like this one, "coming soon". I decided to take the ride and look anyway. I had a price limit, so I kept to that and asked the sales person to demonstrate those in that area. I didn't like the sound of any of them. I saw this one sitting on a shelf without any price or label on it. I asked if he could direct sound to it and it sounded the best. I asked how much it was and if he had any in stock. I was expecting a no answer, but he disappeared and came back with one on a two wheeler. It was in my price range, sounded good, and I also have a Def Tech sub for my living room home theatre which has provided good service for a few years, so I purchased it. Can't be happier with the sound, but I will tell you all that in the directions it states to turn the sub sound (gain) up to 12:00. I did that and I have to tell you that it is way too much and you could run the risk of damage. I would suggest only raising the gain to 25% and increasing it from there if needed. I have put it through several tests, listening to music, watching Live Free Or Die Hard using 5.1 DTS, and I have to tell you it has passed with flying colors.

Great subwoofer for size
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this subwoofer at magnolia theater best buy and am very impressed with the quality and sound for its size. It really makes an impact with both movies and music. This sub has as much punch as my old 10 inch sub. I love it and would highly reccomend to somebody looking for a great discrete sub

Best sub
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an incredible sub. I currently am using a Yamaha HTR-5890 receiver and 9500 speakers, the yamaha sub that I had before was weak. I am sure there are better subs out there, but for 400 dollars this one cannot be beat. The Klipsh sub sold at the core best buy stores pale in comparison, even though they are more powerful. they just do not perform like the Dif Tech

Perfect to fill a room
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have 2 of these for my home theater system and they do a fantastic job. There is an easily accessible power dial on the side to raise or lower the base. All in all it does exactly what I need it to do and more.

Great small sub
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great for music and movies. Bass is very crisp and clean, but still powerful enough for a medium size room. I didn't think this "little" sub would be as powerful but I was pleasantly surprised. It's small enough to fit almost everywhere but the sound is very deep, powerful and clean. Also, the volume control on the side is a nice feature.

Best Sub For Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this sub at Best Buy to replace a Prosub 60 that was not giving the needed rumble that I desired. All I can say is wow! The base is crisp, clear, and strong. If you want a lot of base in a small unit, this sub is for you!!

Simply amazing.. Strong. Clean.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This subwoofer is blowing my mind. I have had the mainstream subs, like Pioneer, JBL and Klipsch. They don't TOUCH this unit. It is way more power than I can use, I keep the side volume control about half way most of the time. The low frequencies are so even and solid, good sound quality. Matching it to a 3 piece set of Monitor Audio Bronze edition speakers at 80W each. The subwoofer is equally matching the front stage's sound quality. I have been auditioning the sub in stereo mode with just the 2 front speakers, and I have never heard my CD's sound this good. Do yourself a favor, and at least check this sub out before you go buy a mainstream brand. For this price compared to the others pricing, there is simply no reason whatsoever to not get this one. I run the receiver crossover around 80Hz, but the subwoofer also has its own crossover and volume for fine tuning. I didnt know a sub could sound THIS good.

All the bass you need or want....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Other reviews indicate this unit is capable of removing pictures from the wall. This is an accurate statement.. We run ours between 1/2 and 3/4 volume (located conveniently on the side) and have PLENTY of bass. We have hardwood floors, and have not experienced the "vibration" issue mentioned in other reviews. This subwoofer is sold as part of the Definitve Technology ProCinema 800 series, which includes 4 of the 800 series bookshelf speakers, this sub and the 100 series center. Best Buy matched internet pricing, and I saved some $'s and have an EXCELLENT sound system! Go to BB, and let your ears be the judge!

Excellent overall
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have mine hooked up via sub cable to Denon AVR-1912. Bass is tight and responsive. Love the on-unit volume control - great for nighttime use or other times when ground-shaking bass, which this unit can certainly provide, would disturb others in the house. Also love the option to send signal via speaker cable for when a 'subwoofer out' jack on amp or receiver isn't available. Would definitely purchase again.

Excellent for music and movies
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for a 20 x 20 foot office where I watch movies (5.1 speaker set up) and listen to music. I use a yamaha stereo and yamaha bookshelf L/R speakers (middle end price) that have a 6 cm bass. Now with this subwoofer I get so much more accurate base. Movies like transformer and Saving Private Ryan are so much better. This woofer has a dial for "volume" so with certain music you can really get more of less depending on your taste. There is a downward and forward base which I think makes a great combo.
