A laptop gaming system is not usually words associated together. However, Dell and AMD come close to making this fantasy a reality. The 512 MB SSD is relatively fast and is paired with 8GB of DDR4-3200 memory, Complementing these is a discrete graphics card. These combined to deliver a machine which can hold its own against today’s modern machines. There are a few drawbacks. Dell’s base configuration of 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD is on the basic side. While smaller games like Genshen Impact played just fine, larger games like Forza and Flight Simulator had a little more stuttering when hooked up to a 4k monitor. They were a little better on 1080P. Both games were still very playable, but extra RAM would make it that much nicer.
Fortunately, 6 screws on the bottom of the machine are all that separates owners from upgrading. The G15 has an empty RAM slot, allowing for an 8GB module to be added in order to get the machine to 16GB. With each modern game taking up between 50GB - 100GB, it’s nice that Dell also includes an empty 22x80 NVME slot. The extra storage will let you rotate between more than just a couple of games. With memory around $60 and 1TB SSD drives just over $100, these upgrades will bring significant value to your experience.
Part of the allure of a gaming machine is how it looks, and this is no exception. The two tone case gives the G15 an unmistakable image of old school gaming. There’s a pattern in the plastic which made me immediately think about PCs from the 90s. All that’s missing is an orange stripe along the side or I’d swear I’d gone through a time warp.
The keyboard, however, is throughly modern with a soft red glow. They’re a little small, but have nice travel and feedback. The ASDW keys have a slightly different texture to differentiate them when playing. That said, you’ll still want to pack a separate keyboard and mouse with you to ensure an optimal experience.
Ports abound below the keyboard. The side facing USB-A ports make it easy to connect a controller, mouse, and/or keyboard. On the back, a USB-C augments the HDMI output to allow easy connection to multiple monitors simultaneously. It can also be used to host any number of other accesories one might need.
Bottom line, the combination of a top notch Ryzen processor and an outboard GPU with dedicated RAM make this a viable machine for PC gaming. Expansion options will keep most people happy for a few years. This also has the added advantage of running office apps and a web browser when game time is over. This will not replace an XBox, but it’s not meant to. It’s a great introduction to gaming without breaking the bank..

So, while this Dell was indeed an upgrade from my previous gaming laptop, it still remains an entry level gaming laptop, which isn't too bad. If you aren't familiar, AMD Ryzen 7 at 5800H is an exceptional processor, which is key for both gaming and creating devices. Firstly, it is well equipped with cooling fans you can hear and see while gaming, which I need mentally!
The most impressive visual for me is that it has a VERY clear and crisp screen display --- I mean this thing is CLEAN and this is why I decided to try some of my creating software on it as well. Here are some general pros and cons I can speak to:
PROS
-All the essential ports are present (USB, ethernet, hdmi, etc)
-Has a current RTX card (this is similar to AI capability)
- Operated great even on the higher and ultra game setting usually +/- 100FPS
CONS
- The RAM was the most glaring con for me with the Dell G15. 4G of RAM is quite low, at least for most games I play. I just make the RAM upgrade which is relatively inexpensive and I don't pay the price tag for an expensive laptop overall. Also be aware some games will throttle your advancement due to having insufficient RAM --- if it even loads at all.
- 512GB is not as ideal for the higher res games and videos (Final Fantasy XV, Armor, the latest Call of Duty, adv warfare) , but its fine for video editing and creating -- I mainly use Adobe Premier and Photoshop.
One final word: For gaming, as well most of the entry level laptops, the GPU (or thermal throttle) works for and against you. It throttles the quality to prevent overheating, but this creates a bottleneck situation when you want higher and heavier levels of gaming.
For content creating: This is an excellent option and offers more than enough CPU and an AMAZING screen display for your creating.
And if you are a student or just someone needing a faster, dependable laptop for your regular needs, this price point is unbeatable, in my opinion.

Dell Upgraded Me

I’m really enjoying my phantom grey laptop. It’s an update for Dell since it doesn’t look like a work laptop! I love the speckle design, it feels like a throwback which I really love.
Hardware is pretty good, I had to adjust the settings so that the frames looked good. At first when I played with the default settings the screen was so pixelated I thought I was in trouble.
The “G” feature that allows you to turn on Alienwares’ gaming center is also great.
I’ve had another gaming laptop and what Dell did better was to add fans that cool the laptop like a desktop. It makes a huge difference!
This is a great starter laptop for the person who wants to game on the go. Oh and I love that I have an Ethernet port to get quicker speed and not have to rely on wifi!

So I have had this laptop for two years so far and I will say it’s a pretty good laptop for this price. Now I won’t lie to ya you will need to upgrade the RAM space and the drive space to a 16GB RAM and maybe a 1tb hard drive depending on what you use it for and as with most laptops you gotta keep it plugged in when I’m use because it will die kinda of quickly. This laptop is also very heavy she’s powerful but heavy so every time you wanna bring her somewhere just know it’s gonna be a lil work out no matter where you go or how you carry it. Now I’m not a big fan of dell but they aren’t that bad and don’t be like me and put acetone on the cover trying to get paint off of it. I am no Picasso. I also bought this laptop on sale so Teehee. But you should try and buy electronics during holidays and back to school because it’s cheaper and getting those upgrades are as well.

This is a solid entry-level laptop that performs well with older games and handles newer titles at medium settings. As long as you don’t expect full ray tracing, it delivers a great gaming experience. I upgraded it with 2x32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD, and now it runs like a champ.
The only downside is the display, which isn’t the best and has some light leakage when displaying black. Overall, it’s a good choice for budget-conscious gamers looking for decent performance.

Prior to this I've had another Dell XPS for over 10 years, absolutely love it! Had JBL sound and speakers, an internal disc drive, and I understand a lot of things are digital download nowadays but for some program that I wanted to bring over to this I'm unable to do so because the lack of no internal disc drive.
Only option is to spend more money to buy an external disc drive. ..Onto my next issue.. For gaming or music the sound is weak to say the least, no bass. When gaming a high quality sound is a must. My cell phone has better sound. So unless you're pairing up to external speakers or using a headset the experience is going to be lacking.
Appearance wise, the shell is made from what appears to be an unfinished or anodized aluminum. More of a course feel than the usual smooth satiny or polished feel and appearance of what I'm used to with Dell or other brands. I know most will use a mouse but another feature I really don't like that they deleted was the two click tabs under the touch pad that would correlate as mouse buttons. If you take this somewhere without a mouse you're left fumbling around trying to scroll and click with just the touch pad having to use both hands. Also its really flat and not angled up in the back much compared to my other laptops so its really not comfortable to type on because of how your wrists sit. Being raised a bit more in the back would probably aid in cooling a bit more too especially if this is set on a bed or something other than a flat hard surface.
All of that out of the way.. I love the bright orange illuminated backlit keyboard. And the Radeon suite really allows you to set the laptop up for your specific needs whether it be gaming, regular usage, power saving, etc. and then giving you real time feedback and graphs to show how everything is operating.
I wanted to mainly use this as my new graphics editing computer because being a photographer I need a computer that can handle large digital files and video editing at one time. Unfortunately I was unable to install the software due to the issue I listed in the beginning.
Overall the build quality and features are excellent and I'd recommend Dell to anyone looking for a great product

As configured this laptop is adequate for 60fps games, but it won’t perform at levels that justify the 120Hz display. The display is acceptable for the price, but the black was a bit lacking. On the plus side, there was no notable motion blur when it ran at lower refresh rates. The heat load was attained using "HITMAN™ 2" (released in 2018, not to be confused with "hitman 2: silent assassin" released in 2002), a notoriously intensive game that stresses the GPU and CPU very highly. The heat felt on the keyboard during gameplay is minimal, and there was no notable heat around the touchpad area. The fan noise is as expected but unexpectedly whiny for the case size and full blown “jet engine” when the gaming shift is engaged. All case temperature readings were mild when playing an intensive game that stresses the GPU and CPU. I’ve included screenshots from 3dmark's timespy benchmark and hitman 2's built-in benchmark. Hitman 2 was running at identical 1080p ultra, and I let it loop a couple of times to let it heat up to show saturated heat performance in actual gaming. The laptop ships with 8 gb of ram which is less than the norm for any serious gaming, multi-tasking or graphics use. I haven’t opened the case, but per the spec sheet there’s only 1 memory slot, so you would have to upgrade to a 16 GB DDR 4 module and not just add 8 GB. The laptop has Wireless-AX and a 10/100/1000/2500 Ethernet card, both of which are more than adequate. The sound is really good, and the built-in microphone and camera are fine for video conferencing. Putting performance, this is a very stylish laptop that will be the envy of any passers-by!

--- SETUP ---
After initial setup and installing all updates, including Xbox App update for gaming, overall it took about an hour and half to get it running. The first time I booted it up, it froze mid setup and I had to turn it off and back on by holding the power button. It hasn’t done that since.
--- FEATURES ---
This gaming laptop features a 120hz screen, AMD Ryzen 7, 8 GB Memory, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, Graphics, and 512 GB SSD storage. It’s also a nice space gray, reminiscent of the PS1.
--- PERFORMANCE ---
The computer performs quite well if you know how to mess with a few in-game settings. I tested this Dell Gaming Laptop with one of my favorite games, Control. This game was purchased from the EGS and I’ve been wanting to try it with Ray Tracing on. I set the quality preset settings to high, Ray Tracing to high, and turned on NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). The latter allows for Ray Tracing at high or ultra settings without adding too much strain on your computer and making the game playable. I’ve included some screenshots of Control with and without Ray Tracing for comparison. You could hear the computer fans running but not as distracting once I started playing my game.
--- EXPECTATIONS ---
Some of the games that I tested were: Control, Hunt: Showdown, The Evil Within 2, Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and SubNautica: Below Zero. The games came from several providers including EGS, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass. All games were able to either handle Ultra or High settings and provided me with a mostly stable 60 or 120 FPS at 1080P with VSYNC turned off. If you don’t know or don’t want to mess with the settings for a well-balanced resolution / graphical setting, right click on the desktop, click on AMD Radeon Software, and it will ask you a few questions as to what type of settings you are looking for. Choose eSports, as this will change most settings to an ideally good balance for those not interested in getting into the nitty gritty details of what to change.
The speakers are surprisingly loud for a gaming laptop, though I’ll still play with my headphones. There are the expected ports such as an HDMI port, and USB-3 Port, a USB-C port, and most importantly, an ethernet port. It is also a full keyboard, meaning that you have a number keypad which comes in handy if you plan on using this as your streaming machine as well and need to adjust various numbers.
--- APPROVAL ---
This is an excellent solution for the traveling gamer looking to game on the go at 120 of 60 FPS games. Pair it with an Xbox controller and some wireless (or wired) headphones, and you will be glad you invested in this machine.

I picked this up for $920 on sale after my cyberpowerpc gaming laptop decided to hit the dust. I saw it in store firdt and loved the textures and feel of the machine. I really like the speckled design and the orange accents. I upgraded the ram to dual channel 32gb total, and added another m.2 SSD from my old laptop. This thing is fast, and very quiet when used for normal tasks. When you press the G button the fans ramonup to full blast and it keeps the laptop very respecfuly cool while playing games. I dont really play AAA games but FPS and indie games and this gpu/cpu combo is a perfect match for that. The keybard has a nice feel too, and i LOVE the orange/amber backlight. Battery life is eh but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ overall great laptop and i have been really enjoing it! Just a simple non offensive gaming laptop. Just PLEASE upgrade the ram to dual channel, and get rid of the one it comes with. It is only single rank, so invest at least 2x8gb dual rank ram and youll see an immediate performance increase.

This G15 Ryzen Edition Gaming Laptop is a great asset for anyone looking to start into PC gaming. You get everything you need in this machine that you could want to hit the ground running. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800H is a fast performance processor. The computer doesn't slow down and feels fast and responsive in all situations. Using a machine like this for everyday web browsing, MS Office, and gaming is a delight for all occasions. The 1 month of XBOX game pass ultimate that is included is a nice added bonus.
This machine comes equipped with a 15.6" FHD display that runs at 1920x1080 FHD resolution and 120hz for smooth scrolling and fluid gameplay screens. Preloaded with Windows 10 Home will take some time to set up for the initial setup. The keyboard is backlit with a soft orange glow which accents this computer color scheme nicely. You get a full size keyboard with a keypad on the right side. The internals of this machine include a 512GB SSD for storage, 8GB of RAM, and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Graphics card to help keep the gaming action fluid and moving across your screen smoothly. The AMD Ryzen 7 processor is fast, responsive, and efficient. This computer has a large body to it for the internal fans and cooling purposes so it stays at optimal temperatures so your hardcore gaming won't slow down. Front facing 720p camera also can be found on the front frame. Gaming can stay efficient especially with the Game Shift Technology built into this that gives you a turbo boost of performance to get the most out of your internal fans to keep the machine cool. Sound is clear and crisp with the dual speakers.
Overall the machine is a whopping 5.5 pounds and has a bulky size and body to it. It's still a portable machine and still great for on the go. Getting into gaming or looking for a machine that is great for overall everyday performance, then this is a fantastic starting point.

Great computer! I think for the price, the display, gpu and cpu combo are very decent. My main gripe is the battery is drained very quickly whether you're putting it under load or not. Dell has it's usual dell soft/bloatware pre installed. Never had any bottlenecks especially after upgrading ram for 16gb. You will likely have to change settings to play AAA games but they still run smoothly. If you can get it for less than(or around) 700 bucks i would definitely still do it until atleast march 2024.

I've had this laptop for over year now. Good laptop but miss not having a SD slot, and only has 2 USB slots.
Speed is still good, still trying to find good virus protection software. McAfee has been an issue, will try Norton this year.

I'm a fan, using it for medical school & light gaming. If you're using it for gaming I'd suggest looking into the RTX3050ti GPU and deciding if its ok that you won't be able to play new games in a few years. If you can find a model on sale with an RTX 3060 or above your computer might have more longevity in this sense.
Great currently, plays everything reasonably well (beat Deathloop, just started Elden Ring since I got it). It's fast and the memory and storage are upgradeable with a little effort. Haven't quite figured out the F9 Alienware function unfortunately.
Good to work on, theres a number pad and a button for a calculator, the keyboards backlit with a orange light, I hear theres a RGB option. As a entry level gaming laptop it will run whatever you need for school.

After having an older laptop for 6 years, I figured it was worth upgrading. This laptop greatly surprised me with its performance and general quality of life. First and foremost is the NVMe SSD, which is almost instant when it comes to loading. Alongside that are the processor and graphics card, which allows for a very smooth 60fps at high graphics settings on many games, including the new Monster Hunter Rise (I played on the demo to test performance). It's even able to achieve 120fps on normal settings on games like Vanquish. This in tandem with the 120Hz monitor, and games feel very smooth on this laptop, which is a huge jump from my older laptop.
Ultimately, very pleased with this product, especially since the price point didn't break the bank like a lot of other laptops.

I can honestly say that 8 GB of ram is not enough to call this a gaming laptop. Maybe if you're playing Sims....
Packaged arrived damaged, but contents were fine. After opening, I realized that this laptop is super heavy. Like a 17" laptop heavy. The build is all plastic and Im not a fan of the light grey color and the speckled dots all over. Maybe that will be your cup of tea.
This has a full keyboard layout with 10 key so that is a plus at least. I like the accented orange color that Dell used around the chassis and the on backlit keyboard.
I tried playing Warzone on max settings and I get throttling and high fan noise. Only when I moved the settings to medium and dumbed down the shadows was I able to play at a smooth framerate. I believe this would be considered a mid range "gaming" laptop at best. The price for these specs is too high. This is a 700.00 laptop. The 3050 gpu is the only saving grace this laptop has. But its crippled by that 8GB of ram. 16GB should be the absolute minimum.
The hinge design is the same as what's on their Alienware branded laptops but the balance is off on this one. Tilt that lid back too far and you're rocking back and forth and typing becomes terrible.
Also the 512 ssd will only be able to hold 2, maybe 3 games if they are not too big. You can expand the storage, and that would be the only way to go if you're a serious gamer. So why not buy the right laptop in the first place?

It's been a great gaming computer for my needs after I added a 1TB SSD card and more RAM/memory. Before I added more RAM it bogged down so that I had to just have the game running without anything else like a web browser. I play games like Fallout, Conan, Arc, GTA, car racing games etc. I don't really play 1st person shooter games. Also with the upgraded RAM. I recommend making sure that the Invidia GPU was being used rather that the AMD onboard graphics. I also always play with it plugged in. The battery lasted a few hours while I was playing when I was traveling on an airplane.
