Thunderbolt 3 won't charge this thing. It's awesome, but power hungry. Great graphics and screen, handles anything I throw at it with ease.

Excellent 4K OLED screen - movies and games come to life. The blacks were deep, but colors were a little over saturated. I did manage to make some settings under the "Intel Graphics". Also performance while gaming was excellent. Ran games well, on high settings with good frame rates. Did not seem to get overly hot - but did use with a cooler. The keyboard and front lighting is unnecessary, but kind of neat. Only one complaint - there were 2 "glitches" that may have been due to Dell's "Alienware" software. I found the brightness always returned to 100% on startup, no matter what setting was programed. And second, the keyboard back light would randomly turn itself back on - annoying during watching a movie. These are minor to be sure, but when I called Dell support, I was told that software issues - even Dell installed software - was not covered, and was "fee based". I am sure most will feel this is minor, but for me, I fell this is unacceptable on a brand new, $2000 computer, so it was returned....I would only recommend as long as someone is aware of warranty limitations.

    Some thunderbolt dock limitations

Laptop seems to perform well. Games play great, especially compared to my old GTX 960 laptop. I wanted to use a thunderbolt dock and only have to plug one cable in for charging/network/monitor/etc... So this review will mostly be about my docking issues. This laptop WILL NOT charge via the thunderbolt port. You MUST use the supplied power brick. I have tried a CalDigit T3 plus, and a Dell WB19TBS. The G series laptop will not charge via thunderbolt. I suppose this is due to the power requirements of the graphics card. Using the CalDigit T3 I was able to get G-Sync working using the display port and my Asus VG27AQ monitor. I could not get G-Sync working with the onboard HDMI, or the DP/HDMI ports on the Dell WB19TBS dock. Like I had said, neither TB dock I tried would power the laptop, but when the Dell WB19TBS dock was plugged in I would get a "Your port does not accept power" error at EVERY boot. I do not get this error with the CalDigit T3. With the CalDigit T3 dock I would get distorted audio through my speakers. The only way for me to fix this was to disable Intel Speedstep in the BIOS. Not sure if that will be a negative in the future, but it seems to fix the sound issue. I didn't use the Dell WB19TBS dock for long, but I didn't have the distortion issue when using it. I had contacted Dell support about powering the laptop via the thunderbolt port. The rep assured me that it can. IT CAN NOT. All it all it is a good laptop. Just be aware of these docking limitations. The power limitation may apply to all RTX laptops

This notebook has the most beautiful screen I have ever seen on a PC. I purchased this as an open box that was listed as being "Excellent". However, whether it was from shipping or from before it was packed the top of this unit had some serious scuff marks that couldn't be cleaned away which bothered me to the point I had to return it. If not for that this notebook would have been amazing in every way. That screen....I would like to se all noeboo PC's hae this beautiful of a screen. It makes all other seem mediocre at best.

Great Computer, after I cleaned out the dust.

This is a great laptop! Beautiful screen and FAST. However, I purchased it from BestBuy as an open box item. I purchased it online and picked it up instore. I was shocked how full of dust the cooling paths and fans were. I never intended to remove the rear cover, but the fans were clogged with dust. I cannot express how disappointed I am in how this was packaged. This computer had a profile running when I finally had it cleaned enough to have it cool. A profile called KEYLOGGER, was logged in and running in the background. I reinstalled windows and all of the other associated programs that are needed to operate the lights and Alienware controls. I have never, before this purchased, worried about an open box/ refurbished computer that I have purchased from Best Buy. This is the 4th Open Box/ refirb computer that I have purchased from Best Buy and likely the last. I was so disgusted that I forgot to take any pictures of the gross dust in the fans and grates before cleaning them. So, I say to the Best Buy in Davenport Florida. Please Do Better! I have always loved to shop in Best Buys and this experience has tarnished my opinion.

Loving it so far (typing this review out on it, in fact!). Games really well, things like Blender and Unity respond really well. The 2070MQ will throttle if it gets a little warm, so you really want to make sure its ventilated when you're gaming. Screen is GORGEOUS, OLED really makes a difference! Watching 4K HDR movies on it is unreal. Really enjoying it!

I purchased this to work from home and utilize a thunderbolt to connect a large screen. My grandkids play Roblox on it and say it is super fast! Great for gaming. I have my Office apps on it also and everything is working well. The screen graphics are exceptional. I added a Laptop cooler- it does get a little warm when playing games. I am very pleased with this purchase

This is a good running unit although when gaming it can get hot, At times pushing 100⁰c. That being said this is a fairly powerful computer inside a small metal box so I suppose it's bound to get hot. My fix was a $30 cooling pad. Now my CPU doesn't get much above 80⁰ at its hottest. I have read a couple of other reviews and it sounds like downloading a throttle stop and undervoltting the CPU might get the same result. Overall It is a nice machine with a killer display and good mid-high end computing power.

I loved the screen and specs on this laptop, however, I did return it after using it for a week. I did light gaming and internet browsing to test things out, but it just ran too hot for me and the fans unfortunately ended up having a high pitch sound even running on quiet mode. And this is after installing software and BIOS updates. Other than those issues, it would have been a keeper for me.

The Dell G7 15.6" Gaming laptop is a lot of computer in a laptop-sized package! I am both an IT professional and an audio engineer, so I know computers. This bad boy has a discreet video card, so when I'm working on the soundtrack of a film, I can see what's on-screen without sacrificing CPU power or RAM that I can really use for sound design processing. With the dual video output ports, I can even see everything on nice big screens when I'm not on the road. The 1 TB NVMe SSD gives me tons of storage space to work with at lightning-fast speed, and the 16 GB of RAM are great for smoothly working on many tracks of demanding plugins in my audio / video editing software. This little guy is probably great for gaming, too. I don't game, but I know that many gamming PCs are built with the same power that digital media creation needs, and this thing is NICE. My only complaint with it is that it frequently takes a couple of presses on the power button to actually power it on. I like to fully shut my PCs down when I'm done using them, not just put them to sleep. Most of the time, when I press the power button the first time, it'll act like it is powering on by flashing the Caps Lock light and the other power lights, then turn off and make me press the power button again to get it to actually boot. It only started doing this after a BIOS update came in a few days after I got it, so I suspect it's a bug in BIOS. I'm waiting for a new BIOS upgrade to see if that fixes it. I have another Dell PC (a desktop), and it has had an average of 1 update every 9-12 months. The FN key is stupid, but that's on all brands I've seen come out in the last 5 years or so. Switching the F-keys to be the standard in BIOS does weird things to the keyboard at boot, so I just deal with it. Again, I'm hoping that there's a new BIOS that will fix this, too.

I'm searching for the right gaming laptop for the last 6 months and finally got this one...I totally enjoyed it. It has all the features that I'm looking for and the gaming experience is fantastic!!! It is kind of heavy weight, but the performance is to the point and I faced no lag or graphic slowness while playing.

I'm not using this computer for gaming I use it mostly for 3d modeling and rendering. Yes the computer gets hot when I use it with Blender 3d and Cycles rendering, but gets the job done and really speed things when you enable Nvidia Optix. The screen looks beautiful with vibrant color and dark blacks is perfect if you enjoy 4k content. My only con is that the battery last like two hours if you are doing intensive work. I think if you need a computer to do multimedia tasks on the go, video editing in Davinci resolve, retouch in Photoshop, affinity photo you wont be disappointed.

I managed to snag this brand new from someone on Facebook marketplace for $900! It's a total beast, and the display is GORGEOUS. I was scared to miss out on a 3060 laptop, but now that benchmarks are coming out the 3060 mobile is only a 7% overall gain vs. this 2070 MQ! This laptop WILL run hot UNTIL you get the latest drivers and Dell updates, THEN go download ThrottleStop and set SpeedShift's max value to between 35 and 39, depending on what exactly you're doing for energy use. This will ever so slightly cut back on CPU speed by a tiny amount, but you will then find it NEVER goes above 80 C, and usually sits around 70 C. Undervolting might be better, but Intel locked that functionality and I really didn't want to worry about flashing to an earlier bios without all of the bug fixes and performance patches.

It gets really hot really fast and pulls 60fps occasionally. When I try to watch any online video, it skips frames. Battery has basically no longevity and has to be connected to power all of the time. Ita functional but not optimal. Costs more than it’s worth.
