I have 2 of these. This one is for my mom but I also own a non-refurb. So far this refurb has been fine without issue.
Hardware: This is pretty light, has hdmi, lacks vga but who cares nowadays. Not meant for gaming/video/animation but this thing can be used for basic high end audio or a multimedia machine. Its not meant for huge photoshop crunching but can do most things without feeling slow.
Only real issue is handprints show easily on the nice exterior.
Software/OS: It comes with windows 8 which many don't like but I am an IT specialist. So I'm able to turn off all the windows 8 annoyances and it seems to function much better than even win7 after that.
For the price (below $250) this is a pretty awesome machine.

We bought this laptop for our 15 yr old son to do his school work. It has all the necessary memory, speed, visual, audio and other functions for him at his school work. Since he has a gaming system we did not need a laptop for him to download a bunch of games on. This computer is able to surf the internet at a fast speed and does everything we expected it to/

Auto updates take a long time. Nice keyboard that is easy to use and the number keypad is fantastic. Good quality screen, not to easy to open but that may loosen up with use. I would purchase again.

I bought this refurbished laptop online from best buy for my 7 year old daughter for Christmas. she opened it and was super excited. it came with a GEEK SQUAD certification that everything is in proper working order. we turn it on to set it up and it is not working properly. the cd rom will not open, it will not mute, cannot use headphones... many other issues. so I looked about a return. it stated that I could mail it back in, but I would only get a refund and NOT another laptop. it stated if I took it back into the store, I could exchange for same product. So... I traveled three hours to the closest bestbuy, and that told me we no longer sale this... i bought this item less than one month ago.. they stated they can fix it but could take up to four weeks.. cannot exchange for same one.. can buy another one and put extra money towards it.. I ended up getting a refund... out gas money.. waste of time.. daughter is sad, with no laptop... horrid experience... will NEVER BUY FROM AGAIN!!!! Geek SQAD certified!!! YEAH RIGHT!!!

I loved the dell laptop when I took it out of the package. Then two months later the battery was stone dead. And customer support suggested that I take the laptop back to Geek Squad to have it checked for a minimum charge of $50!!!

I paid $199 for this online on Black Friday instead of fighting a crowd. I can not tell it was refurbished. It runs and looks brand new. Took me about 15 minutes to figure out Windows 8. Overall, really pleased.

This laptop would probably be pretty nice if it were usable. When the refurbish center finished their work they neglected to install a usable version of Windows. The Windows program that came installed on the computer had an invalid product code so nothing on Windows could be accessed. Geek Squad at a Best Buy location said they would have to send it in to have that fixed and it would take at least 2 weeks. This to me is unacceptable quality control for a company of any size or reputation. I returned it and purchased a different laptop.

Got this laptop for a good little boy. His shelf elf told me he really wanted a laptop. I heard that he really loves the laptop but he thinks Windows 8 stinks.

Bungled by Certified Geek Squad Refurb

I eagerly awaited this windows 8 laptop. My sister has the same laptop she bought new, and I knew it was the exact one I wanted.
When it arrived, I could sense this was going to be a struggle. The laptop's battery was COMPLETELY dead, as in 0% charge.
After charging it for an hour, I started the set up. That led to the second problem. The Wifi didn't work. Bluetooth was reported as being available, as was the physically wired ethernet, but no wireless. After looking at Control Panel_Devices, it became apparent that the driver for the wireless controller wasn't installed. There was a device called "network controller", but no driver for it. I physically plugged into my network and tried to get a driver. No driver available. I updated all the outdated drivers (5 of them) with new ones from Dell's site. Still no wifi.
I called Geek Squad on their 800#. They confirmed that there was a problem, as the wifi controller wasn't showing as available. They told me to go to the store.
After I got off the phone with them, I was prompted (demanded would be a better word) to validate the copy of Windows 8 that came pre-loaded on the computer. It failed. It told me that the product key was incorrect, and I needed to enter a correct product key or buy a new copy.
I shut the machine down and took it to my local Best Buy. After waiting 30 minutes to speak to a Geek Squad representative, I explained my problem. He took a look. He said the machine would have to be re-imaged, and he was doubtful that would fix the wifi problem. His manager came over and suggested I just return it and start over, buying another one, as them trying to fix it would take a "few days". They agreed with my assessment that the "certified refurbishment" was apparently bungled. It is likely that the wrong operating system image was put on the machine, thereby causing the failure to find the proper driver for the wifi, as well as the failure to get the proper product key to validate windows. They didn't know why the machine was shipped to me without, apparently, any testing of it taking place.
I returned the unit. I've ordered an upgraded model for $25 more. We'll see how that goes...

Price was about right, got it for my mom for Christmas. Purchased online and shipped to the house.
Upgraded to Win 8.1 and had problems. Went to restore to factory settings and everything was working then system crashed due to a bad disk. HD messed up needed new restore DVD. Contacted Dell since unit was under warranty. Dell would not help, the laptop was registered to another person and dell will not change the ownership nor will they help with any warranty issues. Went to Best buy store and was told that it did not come from Best buy and they could not help unless I wanted to pay for it. I told them I ordered it online and showed them the receipt but still got the same answer. Had to buy restore disk from e-bay. Hope nothing else goes wrong since Dell wont honor the warranty.

Product does not work out of the box, got a huge run around from customer service. Best Buy does not stand behind their products. They want to charge me to fix a software problem. This computer says it had a 1 year limited warranty and now they will not honor their own warranty. Geak Squad says they painstakingly go thru these computers do not believe them. DO NOY BUY
