So much for refurbished

Geek Squad assured me that a refurbished laptop is a safer bet than a brand new one because they go over it with a fine tooth comb. Guess they did not comb the touch screen. The touch screen was intermittently working after the 12 hours of Windows updates that it needed. Going from 8.0 to 8.1 was a chore in itself. Very time consuming. Before the updates the touch screen did not work at all. So I figured it needed a driver or something. No such luck. Geek Squad could not help me figure it out. They suggested that I call Dell. Really? OK fine. I called Dell and after lots of troubleshooting they could not get the touch screen to work either. Well thank goodness for Dell support. They shipped me a brand new same model laptop but with upgrades. They went from I5 to an I7 processor and put an improved Nvidia graphics chip into it. I was thrilled.I went from a $650 laptop to a $1000 laptop and don't even have an account with Dell. That's right. They sent me a $1000 dollar replacement computer on good faith that I would return the other which I of course did. Trouble was that Best But would not transfer the Geek Squad protection plan to the new laptop because Dell gave me an improved version of the same model. I was forced to cancel my protection plan. Oh well...with a company as customer service oriented as Dell is I guess I won't need it.

I bought the refurbished computer that was geek squad certified. I had seen a few reviews that warned about this. When i got the computer the windows was not active. I tried calling geek squad but since i was not a member it was going to cost me. I finally got a hold of dell and they tried to help but said it was refurbished incorrectly and this had happened before. Best buy made good with a similar one but not the same chips and hard drive.

Ordered this 17" refurbished computer. The first unit received was not the model in the box. Contacted Best Buy and they told me that they only had one left and would ship it out immediately. Received the replacement unit and found that the touch screen was not working and also that I could not activate the windows. Called Geek Squad and was told that this is a software issue and that they would not help me with it. Spent 3 hours on the line with Dell and they determined that the issue was a bad motherboard. Dell determined to replace the unit. My opinion of Geek Squad is VERY POOR. Looks like they are very lackadaisical and do NOT test the returned systems. All they do is reformat them and resell. I would never buy a refurbished anything from BESTBUY.
As for the unit, there is only a few issues. One is there is no num lock indicator, the other is that the mouse pad does not have a scroll function.

The promised programs were not loaded. Could be just an oversight . I decided it would be better to buy something smaller. I'm now waiting for my refund.

So far so good. It has been working very well. I think the exterior material used (faux aluminium) is not strong enough nor dirt resistant enough. It's a bit heavy. Depsite these, I like it very much. I'm satisfied with it for now. However, more softwares should been provided along with it.
