This computer is for my personal use and it is perfect for my needs. I love a touch screen and I like a number keypad and this computer has both. The 'matte' look of pictutes was different for me, but it is easy on the eyes. I recommend this computer for the casual user like me.

I paid $600 for laptop that get hot. Not too sure if it's going to last long I will be very upset if something goes wrong I know they say get Geek Squad but if I'm paying $600 for a laptop it should be some years before I utilize Geek Squad. I think Dell should look into why their laptops get so hot and the power cords. This is not the first time experience Please find out why your laptop is getting so hot I should not have to buy a fan to keep it cool when I'm paid $600 for a laptop. Now I will say that I do like the touchscreen which I think is so cool is some of the gadgets on Dell I it's cool

We want to thank you for taking the time for leaving us your review. We are sorry to hear you are having an overheating issue with your Inspiron 3501. Below I have provided some tips to help reduce overheating. I have also provided the full article link, which has more troubleshooting options if they are needed. We also recommend making sure the BIOS is up to date on your PC. I have given you a link to the Drivers and Downloads page for your computer below.
Tips for Proper Usage:
1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

Meets Every Need

I'm a college professor, so I needed something for word processing, accessing grading software, communications, presentations and the like. I don't play games on it, so I can't speak to its use in that area, but if you need what I do for a PC, you'll like this.

Normally, I would stay away from laptops since I'm a PC gamer and am used to bigger / more powerful setups, but I'm pretty surprised by this laptop. The boot time is around 3 seconds which is crazy fast and it has handled everything I've thrown at it so far with 0 issues or lag. Battery life lasts about 6 hours on full performance mode. I even installed a few games on it to see how it would do, like World of Warcraft. Obviously, it has a hard time running it on ultra, but you can still play the game just fine on lower/medium settings. The only thing I wish the laptop had is an illuminated keyboard, but honestly there's too many pro's to even worry about it. I highly recommend this laptop.

It isn't the fastest but it definitely gets the job done. I've used PowerPoint and Excel just fine and have streamed videos well enough. Am considering buying an external hard drive to backup my documents and I am so far happy with this. Pretty good buy. Not the best buy for the price but definitely a good buy.
