Bought this today with the promise that it would take 10 minutes to set up. First nasty surprise was that the software took over an hour to download and install. Second nasty surprise was that the headset would not adjust. The adjustment wheel changed the size up and down but would not hold. What a waste of time !!

I own HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and now MS Mixed Reality. They say the MS has higher resolution but the games sure are not showing that so far. Rift and Vive games look so much better and play smoother. Some of the games are just straight ports from what already is out there. I was really looking forward to not needing sensors around the room to play in the room but the MS Mixed Reality does an extremely poor job of tracking the hands. It constantly is loosing a hand or all the sudden it thinks my hand is pointing the opposite direction. I find the hand tracking to not move as smoothly too. Right now, way too buggy. Think I am going to return it.

Played the demo in the store. Absolutely loved how it looked, how it felt on my head, the clarity of the visual. The headset just seemed so much better than the Oculus, I couldn't help but try it out. So I picked one up. Most people are aware of the "Screen-door effect" that plagues these devices (and some other stuff like godrays which are less bothersome) and that can be an instant turn off. These types of things still happen with the MR headsets, but it's not nearly as bad as say an Oculus. I did notice the lenses are more round and not oval which appears to cause a bit of blurring if you try and use your eyes to look left and right? We never really noticed when we were enjoying the Home area or playing games. I noticed it more trying out movies and just general browsing on websites. One of the few things that worried me about the device was the hinge. With all the head-swinging we were doing, it felt like the thing was going to snap. The next thing we noticed is that in the dark, the headset appeared to struggle a bit with tracking. It even caused one of the demos to stutter and lag. This was easily fixed by turning on a small lamp, it was a bit of an annoyance and could affect how you use the device. The Oculus definitely has MR beat when it comes to a secure fit and the motion tracking. To be fair, I don't think any of that is a deal breaker for the kind of clarity this thing offers and the potential it has with low end machines. However, as with all the good, there's a heap of bad too.
We spent the better part of 1 1/2 hours trying to force Windows 10 in to the Fall Update 1709. To plug the thing in and realize one reboot wasn't enough. Not really the fault of the hardware, but that's a stupid limitation. After we successfully got the machine working "correctly" from the horror that was the update, the headset did work pretty smoothly and we encountered no further issues. The cord probably needs to be a tad longer and moved more away from the head (we tripped a bit). Once you get passed that and get it on your head. The Windows "Home" space is infinitely more fun than the Oculus. There's a bunch of stuff you can do with in it. But the overall "content" really consists of: Minecraft, the "Halo" demo, and Windows 10. Nothing else. After about 6hrs of use, there wasn't really much else to keep us going with it. It left us wanting more than it could deliver. We had assumed it launched with Steam VR support, but it did not and Vorpx does not have a mode for Mixed Reality yet. There's just nothing else out there right now you can do anything with. I'd really have liked to try Lucky's Tale on the thing. There's going to be a huge divide in content between the Oculus and the MR headsets with this kind of thing, sadly.
Our opinion of the thing is that: If you're in it for clarity, you definitely want to give it a shot. However, right now, there's not a whole lot you can do with it. Unless you really like the MR Halo Demo and Minecraft. If you want to watch movies or use your desktop. You want this. I read some of the other support issues people were having and if they had read most of the manual I feel like that wouldn't have been an issue. Even the Oculus has its draw backs setting it up.

Great introduction to VR

Once I got through the Windows update (Fall Creators) I found it works very well with my PC. I bought this to match with my Alienware 15 and the graphics very fluid and smooth. The cliff house interface is a very interesting UI, and takes a little getting used to, but very easy and fast to navigate once you get going. I have used my friends Oculus and the Dell Visor is much easier to setup with way less cables! Also I really like the white design and the fact I can take it and easily setup in other locations. I can set it up easily on my desk, then pack away when not using. I am looking forward to seeing more content in the Store as its early days I guess. Although its very cool you can run a virtual PC desktop. I also heard today that SteamVR is also coming so looking forward to giving that a try.

Looking at some of the other VR headsets, it feels like the setup isn't nearly as easy as this Dell headset. Windows 10 automatically detected it and started installing the VR home, and I found I already had a few VR-ready games from Windows! It also works with Steam VR, and I can play my SteamVR games in it too. It's a lot of fun!

Sad attempt at a headset launch by Microsoft

I got mine, plugged it straight in to my PC, ran halfway through setup, and get "We couldn't download the Microsoft Mixed Reality Software" in the Mixed Reality Portal app that is built in to the Win 10 Fall Update. Every time I click "Try Again". it flashes 0% for a moment then goes right back to the message. The troubleshooting guide says to make sure I'm completely updated on Windows Update (I am, completely up to date on Ver 1709). I've rebooted, frees up 50GB of space just to be sure, and all that other stuff.
The most troubling thing here is that neither Microsoft nor Dell have any direct support for these headsets. When Rift/Vive launched, if you had setup issues you'd be immediately put in touch with a native English speaking engineer who would walk you through it. For me it has been 24 hours and the best I could get was telephone-tag with 10 different overseas agents at Microsoft and Dell. This is a $450 paperweight as it stands. If this is the kind of support I see at launch, what makes anyone think Microsoft is serious? Why am I an unpaid beta tester for the Zune of VR?

Was not happy with it at all, beside little better graphics than Vibe or Oculus, it was just bad. Being that there are no sensors just hand controllers it was constantly lagging. Windows store was lacking on apps for sure. If you going to spend this much for a VR System I would recommend buying the Oculus much better game play.

Controllers don't have a haptic feedback

I have a problem with Dell Visor. Controllers don't have a haptic feedback, and in most games you have a stupid feeling that you are waving your hands in air without any vibrations when you interact with something in a game. I contacted about this problem with Microsoft more than three times, I reinstalled Mixed reality a lot. I reinstalled Windows two times. I have changed this Dell Visor headset in store three times but I have this problem with all of them. It looks like this Dell Visor is not ready for Mixed reality yet. Really, if I didn't bought this headset as bulk with a computer so it costs me about nothing, I'd bring it back to a store get refund and buy mixed reality headset from another company
