Customers are saying

Customers find value in the XPS 13" Touch-Screen Laptop's display, keyboard, design, battery life, and performance. They appreciate the crisp colors and screen resolution, the backlit keyboard with soft-touch keys, the sleek design and perfect size, the long battery life, and the super performance and superior build quality. However, some customers would prefer at least one older-style USB port and the fact that the RAM is on-board and cannot be replaced or upgraded is seen as a drawback.

PROS: - Small and light - Thunderbolt 4 - Intel Evo - Bright (touch screen) display - 14:10 aspect ratio - Excellent keyboard - Great trackpad - All day battery life - Upgradable storage - Fingerprint reader CONS: - Can't upgrade the memory - No built in webcam cover - Only two USB C ports means dongles/hubs -- Setup -- The XPS 13 9310 is a small laptop with a rather small box. Inside the box is the laptop itself, a (quite small) 45W USB C charger, warranty and quick startup guide, and a USB C to USB A dongle. I'm very happy that Dell includes a dongle, since the XPS 13 only has two USB C (Thunderbolt 4) ports. If you are like me and need to connect your laptop to at least one external monitor and other devices, getting either a Thunderbolt dock or USB C hub is going to be a must. Getting setup on the XPS 13 is no different than any other modern Windows 10 device: you go through the walkthrough to setup your profile and then log in with your Windows account (or create one if this is your first time using a Windows PC). Once you're in Windows, you can start installing all the software you need for work/school and remove any unwanted bloatware. The only programs I uninstalled were McAfee and Netflix, so Dell did a decent job of not putting on too much bloatware. They do have many of their own Dell programs, but I don't mind. -- Hardware -- I was a little hesitant about the CPU performance on the XPS 13, since it's such a small and thin device. Thankfully, the cooling system does an excellent job and the 11th gen i7 is able to keep up (with very minimal fan noise) for all the work I need to get done. One disappointing hardware feature is that the memory is soldered to the board, so if you need more than 8GB of memory later down the road, you're likely going to need to get a new laptop. Is 8GB enough for you? I'm currently using around 7GB with my average workload consisting of: - MS Edge with 3-7 tabs (one for streaming music) - Firefox with 1-3 tabs - VS Code and/or IDEA/PhpStorm - XAMMP with Apache and MySQL running If you need to use a couple VMs, I would look at a different configuration with more memory. Other than the performance, my favorite feature(s) is a tie between the display and the keyboard. Dell has thankfully went with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is fantastic for any text-based tasks. The display is very bright and colors look AMAZING. I can't think of a better display (either on laptop or a desktop monitor) that I've owned that looks as good as the one on the XPS 13. Since this isn't Dell's 4K display option, it will help with battery life. The keyboard is by far the best I've used on a laptop. All the keys are large (for a small laptop) and have decent travel for how thin this laptop is. The keyboard backlight has two settings: bright and dim. Honestly, with how bright the screen is (even at the lowest setting) I have yet to really use the bright lighting setting. The only thing I could complain about the keyboard is that the up/down arrows are split keys and the carbon fiber used for the keyboard deck can collect skin oil (but is easy to remove/clean with a microfiber cloth). -- Performance -- As long as you keep the memory limitation in mind, I doubt you could possibly be disappointed in how the XPS 13 performs. Even when I'm pushing the CPU, I don't notice any performance hit. The fans, while occasionally will ramp up depending on what you're working on, don't come close to what I would consider as "loud" for a laptop. Even if I was working in a library and the fans kicked in, I wouldn't be concerned about bothering anyone. While Intel is really trying to make sure people know how well their integrated graphics are with the new 11th gen processors, I can't stress this enough: THIS IS NOT A GAMING LAPTOP. However, Intel is finally at a point where they can compete with AMD for integrated graphics. While you won't be able to play modern titles at high settings at +60FPS, you can still get away with some light gaming (I've been playing Hearthstone and Diablo 3 in my downtime). With my current workload (listed above), Bluetooth disabled, and screen brightness around 30%, I'm getting between 10-11 hours of battery life. If you're away from the charger, you'll have no problem getting a full workday in. The charger is so small and compact though, I have no problem keeping it in the laptop sleeve I purchased for my XPS 13. -- BOTTOM LINE -- I'm really impressed with the XPS 13. This may very well be the best looking Windows laptop available. Not only does it look amazing, but it's amazing to use. The display is fantastic. The keyboard feels great to use for long periods of time. The performance is outstanding, especially for how small this laptop is. If you're looking for a solid-performing laptop that's not made of plastic, I STRONGLY recommend checking this out at your local Best Buy. You really need to see the display and use the keyboard.

I have a Dell G7 gaming laptop (I7588-7378BLK-PUS) that I bought in 2018 & it is still going strong. It is a nice laptop, but it is rather bulk plus I seem to only surf the internet or watch movies & TV shows on it. So, when I was given the opportunity to test my choice of 3 different models of the new Dell XPS 13”, I knew that I wanted to do so plus I’d get a lot of really good use out of it. The Dell XPS 13" 9310 Laptop: The Dell that I chose is the XPS9310-7085SLV-PUS. It features a 13.4” FHD+ touch-screen, 11th Generation Intel Evo Core i7-1165G7 processor, 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, Waves MaxxAudio stereo speakers, microSD card reader, 2 Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports & integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU plus much more. It really is a beast of a laptop! Unboxing: Included in the box with the laptop was of course the power cable as well as a USB-C to USB-A 3.0 adapter. Since this laptop features no USB-A ports, instead opting to have the 2 Thunderbolt 4 (USB Type-C) ports I mentioned previously, Dell included the USB-C to USB adapter to allow for use of USB-A devices. It is nice to have & a must if you want to use your old external mouse or keyboard, etc. Booting Up & Setting Up Windows 10: Powering on the laptop & going through setup was a breeze. Cortona guides you through the Windows 10 setup & I was into the Windows 10 environment in no time. This Dell XPS laptop boots insanely fast! My gaming desktop has a Samsung NVMe boot drive plus tons of internal & external drives, so it boots fast but not nearly as fast as this Dell XPS 13 laptop. It takes just seconds to go from hitting the power button to being logged in. The laptop has facial recognition plus a fingerprint reader (the power button on the keyboard) to make logging in easier than typing a password or PIN. Configuring Applications & Settings: I had fun setting up the included McAfee software (with 12 months of protection included for free), playing with/configuring the display settings through the pre-installed applications (such as Dell CinemaColor & Intel Graphics Command Center) as well as doing some testing of the Wi-Fi 6 speeds (both before & after configuring the included Killer Control Center). The speeds I was able to pull over Wi-Fi were great! While not nearly as fast as the speeds my gaming desktop will see with its gigabit ethernet and CAT-5E cable going directly to our NETGEAR router, the Wi-Fi speeds were still very respectable and better than the speeds of another laptop we have in the home that has a Wi-Fi 5 (AC) card. I am happy & impressed with this laptop thus far. Heating/Cooling During Use: The laptop stayed cool during the Windows installation, Windows upgrades & even my multimedia session. I was pleasantly surprised with how quick it runs and how the bottom of the laptop was not hot to the touch. This was even with me having it sat on my lap in bed; it was on top of the comforter, so it was probably most apt to get hot there than anywhere. A plus to not have a small heater sitting on my lap. So, it seems Dell did a great job keeping things cool even under extensive testing & use. Touchscreen Display Quality: The laptop’s built-in display is a full HD display, so while it does not have a 4K display, it is still very stunning in full HD. Via the Thunderbolt ports I can connect to 2 external monitors and through that Thunderbolt connection it is capable of 4K on both external monitors. I was watching some YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime videos on the laptop using the laptop’s own monitor. All the videos are clear & crisp. The colors are nice & vibrant. While my gaming laptop can overclock the monitor to 144hz, I must say that the image quality on the Dell XPS 13 wins hands down. The touchscreen is nice & once I get in the habit of using it again, I will be making use of it more frequently. It was responsive when I was using it sporadically; meaning I would go from using the trackpad to clicking something on the screen via the touchscreen a moment later. The laptop did it all without so much as even a second thought. It is a testament to how great the 11th Gen Intel Evo Core i7 is. The Keyboard & Trackpad: They keyboard is the normal size of a smaller 13” laptop, if I could change two things then one of them would be to include a full-size keyboard, but I know in these smaller laptops that is not something that is normally done due to the size constraints. The included keyboard is nice, it has a nice feel to it, and it engages easily. The trackpad is not overly sensitive where I found myself using it without meaning to (like with the palms of my wrist). I have had a few work laptops that this happens on and it can be very annoying. So not having that occur is a bonus for me. Overall Design: The design of the laptop is very thin, sleek & elegant looking. It is lightweight & looks like a nice laptop should look. The design of the laptop looks durable & like it will last for a long time. Conclusion: As I have stated numerous times already, I really like this laptop. It is a great system. As I mentioned previously, if I could change two things, then one of those would be the keyboard. Now, of course that is easily rectified by using an external keyboard. While not practical if I am using it in bed or even on an airplane it is a minor inconvenience at worst. The only other thing I would change about the laptop is the included system RAM. I wish it had 16GB of DDR4 RAM & I may look to see if that is something I can do once I am back on the laptop again. Crucial has a site that has a scanner tool you can run & once that is ran it will show you what your upgrade options are. Great site & tool. So, if it can be upgraded, I am going to look at doing so. All in all, I am very happy with this Dell XPS 13 laptop & I will be using it for many years to come. If you are looking for a great business & home use laptop then this one is the one for you!

Received this a few days ago and have been using it steadily with normal programs but no gaming. It has the newest 11th generation Intel chip, a silent 512GB SSD drive and the screen is bright and beautiful. I did find out that right out of the box there are LOTS and LOTS of updates to be done and I recommend you do them immediately or you may discover various unwanted issues, including the BIOS. Once these were downloaded and installed (actually did take 2 days for them all to appear) this laptop is working flawlessly. The screen looks very spacious due to just a slight bezel. The keyboard is very responsive with the perfect amount of spacing between keys so it’s a pleasure to type on. The touch screen is wonderful and so convenient and I love the fingerprint sensor on the power key! Included in the box you will find a USB-C to USB dongle so you can plug in a standard USB device as the laptop only provides 2 Thunderbolt USB-C ports, a micro SD card reader and one 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack. I do wish it had an ethernet input and at least one regular USB but I have an adapter that provides these so it isn't a big deal to me. The aluminum chassis case is finely crafted ~ looks and feels very rich. Even the packaging was great having a solid feel inner box with a lift up lid sitting within the outer box. I turned on the face recognition and when I open the lid it immediately recognizes me and logs me in. I do want to note one thing not pleasing however. It’s the camera quality. Very grainy and somewhat blurry and I was in a well-lit room. I feel Dell could definitely improve on this feature. Before I did all the updating the bottom of the laptop got VERY WARM to the touch. I was quite concerned but after installing all the updates that has completely disappeared, so again, it’s very important you install the many updates needed so it operates correctly. One little quirk I have noticed is when I type sometimes the letters are backwards, going from right to left instead of left to right. I will research this further but haven’t found the problem mentioned anywhere I’ve checked yet. It will suddenly correct itself though. The battery life is superb! I watched over 4 hours of a Netflix series and it was still at 71% battery life when I signed out of it. As of this writing it is at 62% and I honestly have had this on for at least 7 hours straight. I normally use my laptops plugged in but wanted to test out the battery life before writing this review. One other feature I really like is the WAVES MAXX AUDIO PRO software included. The sound was really tinny and not good at all until I got into the MaxxAudio with its 23 settings equalizer having sound options for Movies, Acoustic, Piano and 20 others. It definitely made a world of difference to the stereo speakers. All in all I would recommend this laptop. There are a few bugs initially but if you research on Dell’s support page or give them a call (if they aren’t corrected by all the updates) I feel most issues should be worked out. In my opinion it’s a high quality laptop and well worth your considering its purchase. Personally? I love it!

It's hard to review a laptop in only a few days of use, but I'll give it a try. The build quality looks and feels great out of the box. Not sure if time will prove otherwise, but I like it so far. It's a bit heavy for its size, but I think that makes it feel solid rather than cheap. Keyboard is nicely backlit with soft-touch keys that aren't real loud and are light, quick and responsive. The delete, backspace and power keys are all closely grouped in the upper right corner which took a couple of days to get used to, but that's a me-problem, not the machine. I really like the fingerprint login feature, which is a nice alternative to using my face in the era of covid-masks. As for the touchpad, Dell claims it was made extra wide by design, although that causes problems for me and how I right/left click on the touchpad with the same finger. I can't really reach both sides easily like I could on my last laptop touchpad with a smaller touchpad. I realize that's a minor, finicky gripe, but could be worth noting for some. I will definitely be using an external mouse, personally. On the topic of external accessories, I would prefer at least one older-style USB port, but I understand that's not the way of the future, and streamlining options keeps the size, weight and cost down. The two Thunderbolt 4 ports are new to me, so I have absolutely nothing that plugs into them other than the power cord and the USB adapter that came in the box. There will be a learning curve for me when it comes to accessorizing this thing. It is nice that I can plug in and power the machine on either side. That's a neat feature that comes in handy for sure. I have had some issues with my USB wireless mouse not working consistently when plugged into the adapter, but that could be a problem with my mouse, to be fair. In either case, I would recommend Bluetooth accessories as much as possible because of the limited places to plug in. So if you want a keyboard or mouse, look into Bluetooth. And speaking of Bluetooth, I've only paired it with a set of headphones, but it worked as well as could be expected. No gripes there. I know this review is about the computer and not the software, but so far things have run smoothly for me, hardware and software both. I mostly use my computers for typing papers, building spreadsheets, browsing the web and social media. I do a little bit of basic photo editing and Powerpoint-type stuff, but that's generally about it. I don't generally tend to do any real heavy-lifting with my machines. So to give it a little bit of a test drive I installed an old game I enjoyed from the mid-2000s just to make it run something other than a Word document and the computer performed just fine while I did a little light gaming. I'm not sure this machine was designed for gamers, but it will get the job done for basic stuff at least.

As with any product, what you need should dictate what you purchase. If you simply need a lightweight, portable, well-built machine to surf the web and largely use cloud-based apps... this Dell - XPS 13" Touch-Screen Laptop will absolutely do the trick, but may be more than you need. Other reviewers have touched on gaming & video processing needs- neither of which I have experience with. What I was trying to find is a machine that was as good as (or better) than the machines I use for data manipulation and analysis at work. In that context, millions of rows of data are loaded into physical memory for manipulation, calculation & processing. This laptop- with its Intel Evo Platform/Intel Core i7, 8GB Memory & 512GB SSD surpasses the Intel i5 machine I use at work where I can both process the data and multi-task using on-board Office products. I can't actually do work on the Dell, so I can't test exactly what I want to do yet, but I've looked at all the chipset specs and know that as I begin to develop some similar data-intensive projects for use outside of work, this machine will handle what I need! What side-by-side tests I can do involving use of multiple office apps (processing smaller datasets), while using the internet, while streaming, etc. bolsters what the stats say- this little guy will get the job done! As far as my initial use and impressions: - in a world where "unboxing" seems increasingly important, the laptop came nicely packaged in a protective, attractive, yet easy to open package - set up involved 15-20 minutes of choosing passwords, logging in & letting the updates handle themselves (if you already have a windows account, that helps) - the CNC-machined cases are SUCH an improvement over the mostly plastic laptops that were available several years ago- the case for the Dell - XPS 13" Touch-Screen Laptop is attractive and not all flimsy-feeling - the backlit keyboard is a must (& unfortunately, not a totally ubiquitous feature) The only con I'll note (which is a thing with most modern, compact laptops) is that there are only 2 ports (though both the latest Thunderbolt 4 USB-C set up), so you'll need a hub/adapter for any USB 2/3 accessories and/or other non-wireless peripheries (e.g. monitors, hard drives, etc.). Again, this is becoming the norm for these smaller machines, so it's more a heads-up than a knock on the Dell. Overall, an impressively powerful machine in a compact package!

As a predominantly Mac-based family and business, I was excited to try the new Dell XPS 13” laptop and was delightfully surprised as to how much I enjoy using it. It’s a small yet mighty computer packed with great technology and usability features. Pros: - Solid form factor and perfect size for on-the-go - Feels sturdy, high quality, and like it will last for a long time - Wickedly fast processor with most tasks quicker than a hiccup - OUTSTANDING and EXTRAORDINARY battery life – I used the machine several days, all day, from a full 100% charge and still had an estimated 1-1.5 hours left to go o Even on days I did some heavy lifting in applications like Excel, the battery is simply remarkable - Comfortable, backlit keyboard - Stays relatively cool during use (on lap, for example) compared to my other laptops - Responsive touch screen - Very little ‘software bloat’ - Dell’s included software is relatively useful and unobtrusive - Compact charging cable and adaptor - Did I mention the AWESOME battery life? Cons (and there are only a few!): - Windows 10 Home – at this price point, I would have liked to have seen Windows 10 Pro included - When using while charging, that leaves you with only one USB-C port to use for peripherals. o While the inclusion of the USB-C to USB-A adaptor was appreciated, at this price point, I would have liked to have seen an adaptor with one USB-C to multiple (3-4-5?) USB-A inputs - A little difficult to open – you kind of need to have a fingernail to get in to the ultra-small groove to open the laptop Overall, this is quite a great laptop. It’s fast, perfectly sized, and has a strong battery life. The USB-C adaptor Dell includes is useful for older peripherals (external HDD, mouse/keyboard, etc.) but should really have more than a 1:1 USB-C to USB-A relationship. I would highly recommend this laptop for both home and business use, especially for those constantly on the go.
