I love this laptop, but the battery life is kind of short because of the 4k touch screen.

I was looking for a computer that I can run CAD software on, and this computer can do it. It has the space I need. I am happy it has th touch screen because I can interact with my different programs in different ways. The graphics are awesome.

Very powerful laptop for 4K video editing! Super fast and awesome at multitasking. Display is bright and colorful. I really like the feel of the rubber. The track pad is smooth and accurate. I also like the slim design. Don't buy a Macbook, buy this instead, trust me.

I believe this is a pretty good laptop. I do like the touch screen - was not sure I would be that happy w/ a touch screen computer. It does have lots of - as the saying used to be, Bells and Whistles" - and I am happy with it, so far. Since I have used a computer with Windows 7 for a number of years, am not thrilled w/ the differences Windows 10 brings - forces on you? - but have petty much worked around those differences. Other than the "10" thing, there have not been issues to this point. You have to step up in price-range, however!

it came with lots bell and whistle, but it cannot be utilized. For example, it comes with Thunderbolt 3 port, but there is no Thunderbolt 3 compatible accessories available, even there is NO T3 cable available in the market to interface with T2 accessories. So, for now it is a useless port.
Second, the display graphics cause annoying flicker/black out and keep changing from multi monitor to single monitor, and it keeps doing it My machine came with 2 different display driver Intel HD Graphics and NVIDIA. Lots of discussion on the net, that you need to disable Intel HD graphics to remove the flicker, but doing that you cannot use multi monitor.
Have experienced BLUE SCREEN only using for 1 month.
My advise, wait until Microsoft/Dell/Intel/NVIDIA iron out the issues with the drivers for Windows 10 before getting this laptop
I will try to bring back to Best Buy...

I got an open box dell xps 4k laptop. It had 1tb solid state drive and it was an i7 with a 4k touchscreen display all for under 1500? Thats a hard price point to beat. Gorgeous display and looks fantastic. I recommend this laptop!

Desktop to Laptop conversion

After 7 loyal years my Desktop gave up the ghost after my power supply fried. Instead of trying to rejuvenate the old system and at the suggestion of my wife I decided to go laptop. I've never been a fan of laptops as they tended to not last very long and didn't have the features I liked. And where I will say this new Dell isn't perfect, it's pretty close. Great touch on the keyboard with a good feel for the hands, LOVE the 4K screen with the touch capability (although you can save yourself $500 to forgo the touch feature), worked easily with 2 extra displays and my Plugable USB 3.0 docking station plus the wi-fi is fast and the memory is upgradable to 32GB which is nice. This is a pricey model for sure but thusfar has been worth it. I will revisit this review in 6 & 12 mo. to give updates. Cheers!

Excellent High end laptop for Photography

I purchased this XPS15 9550 to replace an older XPS15 with a first Generation I5 processor. As an older user who also owns a Surface Pro 3 and a Lenovo X series Thinkpad both of which have small screens I really appreciate the 15.6 inch screen. The 4k QHD screen can best be described as stunning. The colors and clarity of the screen are excellent which meets my needs as an amateur photographer. I use this with Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 to catalog and manipulated my photographs. The processor is an I7-6700HQ quad core CPU with Hyper threading for a total of 8 logical processors. Photoshop elements makes use of all 8 logical processors. During the importing and conversion of an Elements 9 catalog (12,000 photos) the CPU ran at 100% utilization for over half an hour. This caused the fans to speedup and thankfully that were very quiet which was great. It also came with 16GB of ram of which Windows 10 and the Elements catalog and editor programs used 8 to 10 GB at times. I had not ever used this much memory on my other laptop so I was thankful for the extra memory. The 1 TB SSD is worth considering if you have lots of video or pictures. It is a NVMe SSD which is much faster than a normal Sata III SSD. I am not a gamer so I can not say much about the GTX 960m graphics card. It is about 4.4lbs which is heavy compared to most 2-1 sold today but light considering the level of performance in this laptop. It is lighter than past laptops. This unit is similar in performance to a modern desktop with an I5 processor.
I have owned a number of Dell laptops in the past and I really like the fact they make the service manuals available online for people who like to work on their computers. Here is a link to the manual.
http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/xps-15-9550-laptop_Service%20Manual_en-us.pdf
I mention this because you can upgrade the RAM or SSD and replace the battery when it gets old. In addition Dell just announced the latest version of the XPS15 which is the 9560 version. This model has the latest 7th Generation Kaby Lake processor, It has a GTX 1060m graphics chip. It also has a finger print reader and a camera that is used for logging into Windows 10.
I hope this helps.

I was hesitant about buying this because of the mixed reviews that I read on this forum concerning this machine.
I am pleased to say that I have had the computer for several months now and have experienced absolutely no problems with it. The computer runs very smoothly, its boot up is very quick, and the large screen has been great because I can easily multitask - I tend to use OneNote and PowerPoint at the same time and the screen is plenty big to accommodate that. The trackpad is awesome, much better than that of other PCs that I've tried, and very similar to the ease of use that I've experienced when trying out MacBooks.
The battery life is awesome, around 12 hours on a full charge.
I don't play any online games so I can't really speak about the graphics card. If I use the computer for a very long time occasionally the fan will kick in but it's pretty quiet and it usually turns off after a few minutes.
I selected the model with the high-end specs because I wanted to have this computer for a long time, so I suppose that the real test will come with time, but as of right now I can assuredly say that I am thrilled with the purchase

randomly the graphics card stops. I have had 2 different copies of this exact laptop and they both had graphics card issues. besides that, it is a great laptop, but i cannot get over the fact of wasting over 2,000 on something that errors daily.

This computer has an outstanding screen picture and it is super fast. It is rather odd that the video recorder is at the bottom of the screen though, so you have to kind of look down when you do a video.

Solid performance but some bugs

The performance of this machine is fantastic. With the 1 TB SSD, very quick response and ample storage to do almost anything. Have some issues with audio cutting out when plugging in and removing headphones from the jack. The only way to clear is to put to sleep or shutdown and it returns to normal. Given the infinity display, the camera sits at the bottom of the display panel making it "look up" so not the best but a minor annoyance as I don't use the camera much. After almost a year, my touchpad began to be pushed up toward the edge of the palm rest and after doing some research, it is likely related to an expanding battery. Thankfully it was within the warranty period so sent in for repair. Still waiting for it to get back to see if the problem was resolved. For a high-end laptop costing >$2000, was hoping for less bugs but understand a new rollout for hardware and OS. Depending on how the warranty service ends up, may end up giving 4 stars.

Won't boot after one month of use

It was working fine for a month and then one day it wouldn't boot. Now, the burden is on me to try and get it fixed, and at my expense. This doesn't make sense. I would think Best Buy would do whatever it takes to get this computer working again and not charge me a dime. I paid $2500 dollars for this laptop about a month ago. I travel for my job and won't be back in the states for another 6 months. Now, I have to hope the Best Buy in San Juan is able to fix it for me. (Of course, at my expense) Stay away from Dell. I read a lot of negative reviews and was really hoping the laptop I got would be OK. It isn't . No laptop should break after one month of usage. If it does, you should not have to pay anything for the store you bought it from to get it working again. They should even pay for your taxi to get to the store. I should be incurring no extra costs because they gave me a laptop that was faulty.
Don't be fooled by all the specs. Read many reviews from many different sites and you will see I am not the only person that has been burned. What good is 16 gigs of ram, 4k screen, 1 TB hard SSD hard drive if you can't get your laptop to boot?
