Makes a good cup o' joe
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Above all else, this unit makes a decent cup of drip coffee. That being said, you can find lots of other less expensive coffee makers that also make a good cup of coffee--but not with an expresso/cappuccion/latte option. Pros: - Metal filter basket (environmentally friend, bolder flavor) - Ability to make a pot, or an expresso, or a cappuccino, or a latte, etc. - Compact for a 2-in-1 - Easy setup Cons: - Metal filter basket (messy cleanup, varying flavor) - 10 cup drip (my previous pot was 12 cup--but markings on carafes seem rather ambiguous in general) - Large compared to a drip only - Less than spectacular instruction manual I haven't quite mastered the fancy drinks and find it frustrating the water flow doesn't stop automatically for an expresso or other individual drinks. The expresso does have a nice froth to it though--but again, you need to know when to stop the machine. I was very happy with milk frothing too. Also, the expresso side has its own water reservoir separate from the drip side. Staying on the left side, it is also a bit confusing what button to push or lever to throw to differentiate between water out of the steam spout, or steam out of the spout, or coffee out of the expresso dispenser. For those who reject using the instructions (like me), you will inevitably spray hot water or steam on your countertop at least once. As for the instructions, once I caved and opened them I found them a bit confusing. On the drip side, I don't like the design of the carafe (I keep getting drips and spills when pouring if I don't pay close attention or pour too fast). I am also not a fan of the "add water chute" integrated with the coffee basket. A slight slip of the hand an you have grounds in the clean water. Plus you have to swing the basket open to add water/coffee which means you need to keep 5" of space clear on the right side of this coffee maker. It can also be difficult to read the water level indicator on the drip side as the open coffee basket/water chute casts a shadow over the water level markings on the coffee maker. There is an auto feature for those who want their coffee made before they wake up as well as a 1-4 cups feature that supposedly will make a better "small pot." Cannot yet speak to the longevity of the DeLonghi which one would hope is above average given the cost. Nonetheless, the device yields a good cup of coffee and I am sure with practice good expressos and lattes. No problems with the performance but some issues with elements of design and functionality as well as the instruction manual. Would recommend it for anyone looking for a 2-in-1 that makes expressos (rather than K-cups) and drip coffee.

Gourmet coffee at home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The experience with this coffee maker was an unbelievable surprise. For starters you must get a good coffee bean. With the DeLonghi, I was able to recreate a great espresso that I was introduced to while in Spain. I really couldn't believe how rich the flavor that was produced by a unit that sits nicely on my counter top. My kids love making cappuccino and adding steamed milk on top instead of whip cream. This coffee maker is an all in one unit that has brought a whole new meaning to drinking coffee at home for me. It's such a treat to have the ability to make gourmet coffee in the comfort of my home. If you're a coffee lover this machine is a must.

Compact and efficient coffee system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this coffeemaker for a week now and have been putting it through the paces every morning for coffee and periodically throughout the day for cappuccino/lattes. The brewing system is compact, with a small footprint, and is intuitive and easy to use. The coffee maker unit is designed with the water tank and coffee grounds in close proximity to each other, so care should be taken when preparing the maker for coffee brewing. Overall, the coffee it produces is well brewed. The cappuccino side of the machine functions good as well. The frother could be more powerful and better positioned/oriented, but overall gets the job done.

This Appliance is Awesome!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a dingbat when it comes to making espresso, latte, cappuccino, never done it, didn't know how. I was tired of spending $ 8.99 + a day for a good stiff coffee drink at the local coffee shop to get me going. Long to short, my drip coffee maker died, figured I would give this a try and am beyond happy with the results. I agree with other reviews here that the instructions are a bit vague, however, if I can figure it out, anybody can, just get familiar with all the little parts and what they do and where they go. Then, like I, seriously enjoy figuring it out, it's fun! It's awesome! It's saving me at least 18 bucks a day! Perhaps I am doing things all wrong at this time with my learning curve, but if you want that decades old since you last had one, jolt in the morning, this is what I recommend! Take the larger puck and fill it with a good finely ground espresso bean coffee. Pack it as tight as you can 1 cm below the top lip of the large puck with the included coffee measure/tamp. Attach the puck and handle contraption to the corresponding receptacle on the left side of the machine, push it to the right, firmly snug, a little right of center. I cycle the green light on the top left button three times to fill my mug 2/3 rds. the way up with coffee, espresso, the stuff that drips out of the puck. Remove my mug and fill it the rest of the way with sweet cream, the stuff that really does come from a cow. Fantastic! That wonderful jolt you used to get years ago with coffee in the morning is back with in 5 minutes after you start to drink it. That's my recipe and I am sticking to it! Oh, and it tastes a lot better than what I was getting from my local coffee shop! As for the other aspects of this machine, clean up, maintenance, etc. I set it up to the right side of my kitchen sink as cleaning it can be a little messy, mainly filling the puck, and rinsing it out, so I like where I have it, plus things go faster if there is more than just myself in the morning. From what I can tell all the critical parts that need to be removed for cleaning can be removed, the biggest hassle is the milk frothier, getting the two parts re-oriented with my vision can be a little bit challenging, but in no way a deal breaker. I do recommend following the instructions in the main user manual to descale the machine. I have not had to do this yet, and though my tap water runs through a filtration system it is very, very, hard water! So I anticipate having to descale both sides more often than recommended in the manual. To maintain longevity I will follow those rules to the letter, including DeLongi descaling solution. Wrapping up I don't much care for the wire basket filter, on the drip side, extra rinsing required, but I think a #2 cone, brown, paper filter will help with that. For the price, and savings I am getting, I strongly recommend this machine! Especially if you have been years searching for that morning wake up like I have!

Makes a Great Latte, Just requires some practice
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had a lot of espresso/lattes in my life (Last 12 months, I spent near $1900 at coffee shops- according to financial software), but I have not personally made many of them myself. It's not as hard as I thought, but there's probably a few important things I had to learn (besides having the right grind): like, wait for the lights. The 'espresso' button (not just the power light by the word espresso) has to turn green before it is really ready to make espresso. Also, If you're going to steam milk, it seems you should press the steam button early in the process to give it time to make the steam, and wait for the light to turn green before actually turning on the steam (I admittedly can be less patient here). One other thing, when you fill the grinds, tap it down (flatten it) with the other end of the scoop, and clean off the edges. Those were my mistakes in my first two servings. If I had one disappointment, it was that our standard coffee mugs didn't fit under the espresso dripper, we had to find other cups to use. I am not 100% certain if this will entirely replace trips to the coffee shop, but it may at least reduce them which is a benefit and cost saver in the long run.

Works great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just like it says on the box, its like having your own barista. Its super simple to use, especially the drip coffee side. The espresso side you need to make sure you clean well. But as said its super simple. It makes a great coffee too. The milk frother works fantastic. Its a great unit. If you like your coffee like i do then this is a great purchase and hopefully will last many many years. Highly recommend

Satisfies all of your coffee needs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using this coffee machine for a few weeks. Below are my pros and cons. What I like: The DeLonghi coffeemaker looks very nice. It has a premium look and feel to it. The directions were easy to follow for setup and I had the machine up and running in no time. The coffeemaker portion of the machine is easy to use and it makes a pot of coffee very quickly. It also has a feature where it releases hot water slowly over the coffee beans to give you more flavor (I only used this once). For me, I just want the coffee as soon as possible. The espresso maker portion of the machine is more difficult to use. It took me a few hours to get the hang of it. I had to read the directions a few times and watch a few videos. But when I got the hang of it I was making Lattes in no time. You can also use E.S.E. Pods to make espresso even faster. What I don't like: The coffee pot that comes with the machine seems pretty cheap. It doesn't look like its going to hold up for long. Also, I wish the machine came with Espresso glasses or the frothing mug. Speaking of "frothing", that portion of the machine has been the most difficult for me. I can't seem to get the milk hot enough. It always comes out semi-warm. It might be a user error. Overall, I have really enjoyed this coffee machine. It does everything and more.

Slight learning curve, but a very nice machine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Other than this machine, I also have a Keurig 2.0, so I 'll make some comparisons with that. I tend to like a lighter blend for a more mild coffee, which I tend to get from the Keurig. However, making more than a single cup with the Keurig can be more difficult. The DeLonghi brewer, for regular coffee, brews at a higher temperature which makes for a bolder/stronger cup of coffee. After just a little adjustment, I've gotten used to it, and find it more convenient to make a pot in the morning rather than a cup at a time which is better when I'm running out to work. Making espresso with the DeLonghi took a little learning on my part, as I've never had an espresso maker before. Additionally, while it is a single unit, the espresso and coffee functions like two separate machines, with separate on/off switches and everything. It only takes a little time with the instructions, and you'll have the hang of it. All in all, this is a nice machine that is rather easy to use, once you have the hang of it.

Coffee Heaven
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So let me start by saying I am a black coffee drinker and don't even know what half the people are ordering in the coffee line. I needed a new coffee machine and have only had this for a couple of days but I am trying and experimenting with all kinds of coffee and teas. Not only does this make an exceptional cup of black coffee the espresso machine is opening my eyes to even better cups of coffee. The unit can be programmed to start your brew, it brews much faster than my old Krups, which is so nice since I hate waiting in a rush. The best part is this machine looks amazing in my kitchen! As I mentioned, I have only had this for a short time and have already discovered many new tricks and opened my eyes to more than just black coffee. I can't wait to see what else I will come up with. I will soon be my own home barista! If you drink black coffee, tea and are wanting to spice it up a bit, this is the machine!

A great cup of coffee
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this unit for a week and am very happy with it. Here are my early user thoughts. Yes, the instructions are a bit wonky, but seriously - you're making a cup of coffee, it's just not that complicated. The unit is sleek, contemporary looking, and surprisingly compact on the countertop. It also comes with all the features we've come to expect at this price point, such as an automatic timer and cup warmer. But the reason you're considering dropping real money on a coffee maker is simple. You want a great cup of coffee. And in this regard, the DeLonghi excels. Coffee is indeed great, and for small batches comes with variable brew rates for tweakers. The espresso feature works very well, with cups that are strong but not biting. Overall, an attractive, professional looking unit, with solid build quality and plenty of features. Best of all, the coffee tastes great.

Works really well
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love that this coffee maker is programmable. Saves me some time in the morning. I also like that you can do 1 Cup or 10. It's pretty quiet which is a plus. I have not had the chance to use the espresso side so I can only speak for the coffee maker. It is easy to clean and overall just really easy to use.

Best of both worlds
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, I am a huge fan of DeLonghi. Everything that they make is top quality and makes the best coffee and espresso. I currently have a DeLonghi super automatic espresso machine, and it makes fast and delicious espresso. I use it daily, and it has taste over 5 years and counting I bought this one to go upstairs in near the media room for a quick brew and some "old school" espresso First the coffee is perfect, and tastes wonderful The espresso takes a little longer than the super automatic, but something can be said when you have to grind, tamp and pull a shot. The espresso is wonderful with a sweet and frothy crema (also depends on the blend) Overall I could not be more pleased with the convenience and quality of this all-in-one unit
