I've always been impressed with the quality of the products that DeLonghi builds. Everything has a great look and solid feel. There's a bit of a premium associated with that, but in certain cases is worth the price of admission.
We needed a panini press to assist with cooking duties during a kitchen remodel. The best part of the DeLonghi 5-in-1 is the easy to swap cooking surfaces. You have the grill grates for your paninis, steak or any foods you want with grill marks (it also works perfectly for cooking bacon). Or you can swap the smooth cook top to make pancakes, scrambled eggs, etc. Everything swaps with ease - but be careful if the grates are still hot.
The temp control dials are wonderful. There's a dial in the middle to switch between open and closed - I'm not exactly sure why. You also have two dials to control temperature depending if you're cooking with the grill open or closed. The dials operate very smoothly and allow very fine control of the temperature.
The heating surfaces cooked very evenly. No real difference in temperature between the inside and outside - which made for a lovely sandwich with even color overall.
Clean up is easy. The ceramic surface is durable, but no sticking. I'd recommend using the same utensils as you would for conventional non-stick. I'm not sure if it's a requirement, but I would.

Great indoor grill, if you have the need

When I look at new kitchen appliances, I ask myself, do I have the counter/storage space (including any additional parts)? Does it replace something (or multiple devices) I already have, or is it just additional? Because this indoor grill is nice, if you can justify the need. Are you in a dorm? Do you live in a small apartment and don't/can't own a grill? Then this grill would be a great option for you.
FEATURES
I'm not sure about the whole 5 in 1 claim, but I used this grill as both a griddle and indoor "grill." It operates the same, you just use different "plates." It comes with smooth ceramic for a griddle and grooved ceramic for "grilling." There are coils underneath the plates that heat them up.
I found the griddle to be awesome and the grilling plates nice to have when cooking for one or two or when it's raining. I found myself using it more as a griddle or using those flat plates to make my kids grilled cheeses.
EASE OF USE
It's pretty simple if you stare at the knobs. One turn of the middle knob turns it on as either griddle or grill (I'm assuming it uses different energy levels for each) and then for the griddle, you turn the left knob to the appropriate temperature and the right knob adjusts the temperature like you would a grill. It really ease child's play easy to use.
PERFORMANCE
It's pretty standard here. If you've used a panini press before, or even a flat griddle, expect the same performance. It does a good job of evenly heating the food. I couldn't tell when cooking if one area of the plates got hotter than others. Based on the food, I'd say it cooks evenly.
COMPLAINTS
Nothing is perfect, even something as simple as a grill/griddle. It's a tad small for me. You can open the hinge to lay flat so you use the top and the bottom for a griddle. But you can't make much food for many people (i'm just talking a family of four, not hosting a party). I had to go through several rounds of making pancakes (in full disclosure though, it beats using a normal pan). But if you're getting this for one or two, I don't think it would ever be an issue.
I should say I'm used to a George Foreman grill, where the grease comes off the ceramic plates at an angle into a drip pan. For me, I didn't care about the "low fat" or whatever claims, I liked it because it made it easier to clean. When using the grilling plates, the grease from a burger collects in the somewhat shallow grooves and you can't remove the plates before it gets cold, which makes cleaning it a little bit more of a challenge. (Griddle flat plates are a breeze to clean).
CONCLUSION
This is a quality grill that performs well, but in my opinion it's best use is cooking for one or two people given it's size.

Good for couples or single person

Look this is a great item for a small family under four, best for couple or single person. But the time it would take to cook a good size meal for four or more is not worth it.
The unit comes with the grill, 2 cups for grease collection, a scraper and 2 grill plates and 2 griddle plates. It does a very good job on hot dogs, hamburgers, steaks with a good sear but best to keep thickness to under 1-1/12 inch. Pancakes are a breeze and come out great.
Cleanup is easy but nevertheless time consuming with the parts you might use in cooking your meals from the grease cups, the cooking plates, the scrapper and the grill itself... which come on no matter how much grease you collect, some will get on the grill itself so that will need some sort of cleanup as well.
For a small number of people (under 3, ideally two or less) 4 stars, above then 3 to 3 1/2 stars.
It cooks well, food is succulent, juicy and so on...so a worth while investment but bear in mind that the unit can take up a lot of space when using the the lay flat configuration.

I was very excited to get this grill, as we desperately need to replace our old one. Out of the box, the grill checked all the boxes for why I got it: it looked nice and seemed well built, it didn't take up a ton of counter space, the plates were easily interchangeable, and the grill smoothly transformed from a press grill to a flat top grill. Unfortunately for me, it didn't work. As soon as I plugged the grill in and turned it on, it tripped the GFCI. I tried multiple outlets, and tried unplugging everything else in the shared outlets, but still it wouldn't work. I suspect the grill itself had a ground fault, as the one I received was a Geek-squad inspected, opened box one. I made sure to let Best Buy know that it was likely defective when I returned it, but needless to say, in the end I was VERY disappointed.

Gets the job done

I got this grill primarily to replace my old panini press. I have an outdoor grill, so not sure how much use it will get for traditional grill items. For the most part, I was pretty happy with the product and results.
Before getting to the good points, there were two things I was a little disappointed by. The first was the apparent packaging of the the item. It seemed to be wrapped up tight but after pulling it out of the box I saw that the plug was bent out of shape. I had to carefully push it back before I could even plug it in. I was also disappointed by the lack of instructions. There was a very basic manual on how to set it up but not much more. This grill has 5 settings but it doesn’t tell you what temperature to cook anything at. I made paninis yesterday with it and had to completely guess what the best temp to cook it at was. There was no guidance on that.
That does lead into the things I liked though. The grill heats up very quickly. There was hardly any preheating time and it left nice grill marks on my paninis. I also LOVE that the grill plates are removable and dishwasher safe. That’s a huge step up from my last one that was a pain to clean.
I also like that this can be laid flat. I’m going to try using it as a griddle for pancakes! All in all, a few minor drawbacks but a solid product with a lot of possible uses.

First of all, the front panel is made of low quality materials and came with scratches. In addition, heating is inconsistent, which gives you hard time cooking.

Solid, easy-to-use grill

This is a solid, nice looking grill for making sandwiches and cooking meat. It can also be opened up flat to be used as sort of a replacement for an electric skillet. It was very easy to set up and use the first time, and it's also very easy to clean the removable grill plates.
It has a couple of collection cups that are a handy way to collect grease and liquids that run off whatever you're cooking. In the press mode you just use one, but in the open griddle mode you use two (one for each plate). This grease collection can be a good thing, but it might also be a disadvantage if you're used to letting something cook in its own grease, like bacon for example. You won't have to spoon it or pour it out of the skillet anymore, but it won't be there for cooking with this system.
One other thing to keep in mind is this grill is rated at 1500 watts. So that means it will use the entire circuit if you have a standard 15 amp circuit in your kitchen. We only had a coffee maker plugged into the circuit (no hot plate, just the clock functions on) and the grill would trip the GFCI. Once I made sure the grill was the only thing plugged in, it ran fine without tripping the breaker again.
Overall, I like this grill and would recommend it.

This 5 in one grill is an awesome addition to my kitchen! I used it to make bacon and eggs, at the same time which was a first for me, and everything turned out great. I hate trying to fry different breakfast items in several pans on the stove and try not to overcook stuff, so I usually do 1 thing at a time... this item took care of that problem. It did a great job on our cheeseburgers as well. I also tried out making a panini and it worked perfectly. I used to have to use this small Mickey Mouse sandwich griller, with 2 small square wholes, making it impossible to use many different types of bread. You don't have that problem here, plenty of space to make multiple sandwiches using whatever bread you choose. Definitely happy with this product.

This grill has been a pain since I purchased it. I couldn’t get it to heat up in my kitchen because it tripped a breaker on every outlet I tried. I got fed up dealing with this so in order to get it to work I run an extension cord from another room. Don’t waste your time or money with this grill.

ok so I have not used a George forman grill in a while so not sure what has changed with those. this is basically one of those but can lay flat so you can just grill on both sides if want or you can use it closed. the top also adjust so it flattens out a bit more so your not closing it at an angle but instead you can adjust the top so that as you close it, it will lay flat on top as well. I like this.
the only complaints I have, lack of direction for the most part. like, the top was a bit tricky at first to get to lay flat when closed. there is no button to release it freely so if you use in closed position, you have to press hard to allow the top part to come down so that it can lay flat on top of what you are cooking instead of closing it at an angle. and most things like grills and all, have a few ingredients and things to cook. just to have, this did not. not a big deal as most of us probably cook things anyways and know what we are doing lol. but still.
but overall, it cooks great. I like that it does have either grill plates or griddle plates and I assume you can use 1 of each flat so you can maybe griddle eggs and what not while maybe grilling burger, or steak to go with the eggs etc.
easy to take apart and nice that you can put in dishwasher. comes with 2 grease cups. one for each side if you use in the open position. nice but would also have been nice if some how attached so you don't forget.
perfect for those who live an apartment especially if cant have a grill. or even those times when burn bans are in place that don't allow you to grill.
it heats up fast and when cooking, it does not take time at all to cook food. you are grilling from both sides if closed so it is heating on both sides.
a few things though that I want to mention that I don't like. as far as I see, there is only 1 knob for when using it in the open position. this knob sets both sides. so you cant cook 2 separate things with there own settings on each side. its all set to the same.
also a BIG CAUTION, the top does get hot. it states in the directions kinda at the end and not bold which is something that should be well noticed, but the top does get hot so it says and I say as well, use oven mits or something if you do have to adjust the cover in the closed position for instance.
and again some way to at least attach the grease cups. like even just a little clip or a way to slide it in. just so that you don't accidently bump either the grease cup or even the unit and cause it to not line up.
overall, nice to have. has a few options that you can do which is great. and a good size as well.

I love this 5 in 1 indoor grill by Delonghi. It's name is Livenza and it comes in Stainless Steel Finish. It is so versatile, with it's hinge it can be panini press or you can open it up an have your grilling or griddl-ing surface and with it's two options of two grill plates or 2 griddle plates. You can even mix and match so you could grill on one surface and griddle on the other. I love the precise temperature controls for both modes the panini or grill/griddle. I have used it twice so far in both configurations, and it is amazing. The clean up is super easy with the ceramic non stick plates. Just remember to not to use any of your metal utensils as it will scratch quite easily.
