    Very Challanging

This has got to be one of the most challenging and rewarding RPG that I have played. You die constantly, with huge consequences, like losing some of your items, and starting at the beginning of the level. Most of the foes are easy to kill once you experiment what weapons and strategy to use. The bosses are extremely hard to get used to, as most can kill you in a single blow; you must figure out their weakness very quickly without mistake. Also I love how you can kill most enemies in one to three hits, and the same for your character. I would say this game is a must have for anyone looking for a RPG.

    Very fun and very difficult!

First off, my wife and I aren't hard core gamers. We play casually for fun. We usually play games on easy to medium levels and once the game is beaten we'll try it on a harder level for a good test. I don't like games that are so difficult I have to spend 3 months on one level. To me that takes all the fun out of it. That said, we love and hate this game. We love the graphics and the storyline, and being able to create your own characters. However, there are no difficulty levels! This game is very difficult! The game is really fun, but will agitate you. When you die in soul form you are sent all the way back to the beginning of the round, no check points! You die very easily! Some enemies you face hit you once and you're dead. It's very frustrating, but you find yourself wanting to do it over and over again. Also, we don't usually get game guides unless we absolutely have to. This one you might. A lot of the items and spells you pick up are not explained as to what they are or how to use them. We waste a lot of items trying to figure out what they are and how or when to use them. There's a lot of trial and error in this game. I highly recommend it, but only if you have patience!

    For Hardcore [RPG] Gamers ONLY!

In a nutshell, Demon's Souls is one of the hardest, most frustrating, most aggravating, most unforgiving, yet....most rewarding games of all time. Does this game make you wanna pull your hair out at times? Yes! Don't be surprised if you're bald by the end of the game. Does this game make you wanna throw your DualShock 3 controller out the window? Yes! Don't be surprised when you find yourself purchasing more controllers just for this game. Does this game offer hours of fun? Yes! This game is very challenging. The hardest part of the game is at the beginning when you first start playing. You're new, you don't know exactly how the fighting mechanics work, you don't know the enemies' tendencies and movements, your weapons, shields, and yourself have poor stats (low Soul Level), and you have no miracles or magic. The fighting mechanics is very in-depth. You can dual-wield weapons, shields, magic, etc. The better the armor, the heavier you become causing you to run slower. There are a lot of things to take into consideration when choosing what to equip and when to equip them. This is where the game is unforgiving --- I'm more of a defensive player who likes to conserve items a lot. It took me a little over 4 hours and maybe around 20 deaths to get past the first level. You can't upgrade your stats and go to other levels until you beat the first demon. You can't learn new miracles and magic until you find certain people in different levels and help them. There is NO PAUSING in the game. If you're in the middle of a sword fight or caught in the middle of a bunch of enemies, you better finish the fight and hope that you can hold from going to the bathroom before you put down the controller. When you die, you have to start ALL THE WAY BACK AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LEVEL or wherever you originally started after teleporting from the Nexus (hub). Also, you lose ALL the souls that you achieved. The only way to get them back is by getting back to the spot where you died and picking them back up. If you die again, they are gone for good. For example, let's say it takes you about 30 minutes to get to this one part of a certain level. You have 1000 souls, and you get killed (some enemies can kill you with one blow). You start all the way back from the beginning. Now you have to go back to that point without dying. If you make it, you get your 1000 souls back plus the souls that you earned along the way. If you die before getting back those 1000 souls, you can't get them back. The only souls that you can get back are the last ones that you dropped. Each enemy has a different amount of souls that they can offer you. The souls aren't necessarily their souls. They're more like a currency. For example, the first enemies you will encounter in the first level offer about 6-8 souls. The number of souls given by each defeated enemy will vary depending on their difficulty, which level you're playing, and the current World Tendency (*see note on World Tendency*). Some enemies can give hundreds, thousands, and even tens of thousands of souls. The souls that you earn are saved for purchasing items, weapon upgrades/repairs, stats upgrades, learning miracles and spells, etc. ***Do NOT use demons' souls (boss souls) for increasing your regular earned souls. Save them for miracles, magic, and weapon upgrades. I made the mistake on using a demon's soul and now I can't get a certain magic power until my next playthrough because I no longer have that demon's soul.*** This game is either a lot harder or somewhat easier if you're signed into the PlayStation Network. When you're online, other players can either invade your world (black phantoms) or aid you in your journey (white phantoms). And of course, you can be a black phantom or a white phantom, as well. I haven't played online, so I'm not going to get specific about online gameplay. *World Tendency* --- Enemies are harder (therefore, offer more souls) the darker the world tendency and are easier (offer less souls) in lighter world tendencies. The tendency can be affected by killing non-playable characters (NPC's) and by the holiday depending on the developers' calendar (e.g. during Valentine's week, it was pure white world tendency for one half of the week and pure black world tendency for the other half. Black phantoms can also affect the world tendency. Notes: 1) Some levels don't take as long as others to get to the demon. 2) Play smart. Don't think of this as a hack-and-slash-and-spam game. Take into consideration your stamina and magic bar. 3) I wouldn't recommend this game to those who have high blood pressure. 4) Have some patience. This game wasn't meant to be beaten in a week or two...or three. Expect around 80+ hours of gameplay. 5) Keep your fingers away from the attack buttons when you're near NPC's in the Nexus. If you accidentally kill the only person that can increase your stats, you're just asking for more trouble. How would you be able to upgrade? 6) Have some sort of strategy for each level according to the different enemies and how difficult they are. Weapons, shields, and magic are either more effective or less effective depending on the type of enemy. 7) Have fun! = ]

    Hardest. RPG. Ever.

I picked this game up during a sale along with a couple other games, so I figured I'd get this since its a PS3 exclusive. I love RPGs. When I played this...I appreciated how good it looked graphically. You have 5 different worlds with varying areas to play through. The sound is great overall. The challenge of the game is beyond anything you've played. I'd say 50% of the enemies you run into are "Hey, this guy was nothing compared to my char's stats". 25% is "Okay, he's a little tough...better use more than attack and defend". 20% is "What the -bleep-? How did my whole health bar deplete in 2 seconds?". And 5% dragons. The game's trial-and-error for the most part. Use what you learned in fighting the enemy to know how to beat it the next time around. The trophies in this game are scaled with true accomplishments. So when you beat a particularly powerful foe or acquire a rare and powerful weapon, it awards you accordingly. Not just "Breathe. Get a Trophy.". Overall, this game might be very frustrating for those looking for a nice sit-down RPG. But for those who want challenges, this will not disappoint. And to me, it's a worthy challenge.

I got this game the first day it came out at first I was "oh cool an rpg game looks good" so i bought it, I was bored for days until i got this game. Now I play like 4+ hours everyday on it. Many people say its hard but once you start learning from your mistakes everything seems easy and it never gets old. It is scary fighting your first boss and think its hard at the beggening but it its actually really easy once you find the weaknesses of each enemy, plus you can help other people take out main bosses or just help them clear the level or you can do the opposite which you can go into there current stage and hunt them down until they are slained or you die but also they can summon up to two other online players to help him/her kill you. Also there is a variety of armor, weapons, and magic to master and obtain. If you like RPG then this is a MUST!

Demon's Souls is the most addicting game I have ever played. Its not the storyline that hooks you, its the innovative gameplay and well thought of level design (from a medieval castle to mazelike caverns to a poisonous swamp). Don't let the difficulty discourage you from trying this game out. There are a lot of differnet ways to progress through to the end of the game. Quite Satisfying to do the first time through, as well. You can play by yourself or take it online and play with friends, but be wary of the evil black phantoms that will invade your world with the sole purpose of your death. And don't think you'll stop anytime soon. I've been engrossed with this title for about five or six months and have loved every minute of it!

    Best RPG EVER!!!!!

Ok....Ok This is without a doubt the BEST RPG that was ever made. The reason why i say this is based on comparison to other RPG's....There is no comparison. Demon Souls has transformed the RPG Genre. The Graphics, Sound, Interface and not to mention the Gameplay. You can Level-up your character as high as you may expect. You can change world Tendencies and character tendencies. The BOSS fights are really off the SCALE!!!! Some have complained about the difficulty but I say it is hard because it was made that way. This game will make you either one of two things; 1) It will Frustrate the young gamer who is used to going in ans slashing like a mad-man. 2) it will make you Love it and Hate it but if you are a true hardcore gamer this is the key to longevity. You will learn Patience and Tactics in this game. So Knuckle-up...Man-up....and Pony-up. Demon Souls will take you on ride of your LIFE....

    Finally an extremely challenging game

This game had nothing advertised well but when my friends told me of it and I played it, I was like whoa it's been a long time since I've been challenged in any video game and have to actually focus every single fight. Normally I just sit back and relax till I get to the boss then I focus but with this, you really need to focus 24/7. That being said, don't think this game is cheap like oh look, mob pokes you and you die because he somehow held your weapon so you can't do anything and stab you cheap. No, it's cheap because it really really punishes you for the mistakes that YOU make. Between Uncharted 2 and this game, I found myself wanting to beat Uncharted 2 as fast as I can so I could return back to this game. I ended up just playing Uncharted a few hours (great game btw) and going back to this game because it was more challenging and my determination to beat this thing got the best of me. WARNING: If you are not used to a hard, challenging game, I would not get this game. This game hands NOTHING to you at all, it makes you work to beat it. The bosses are like Shadow of the Colossus, HUGE.

This game is great. Yet another reason for 360 fans to reconsider and switch to the PS3. I got rid of mine (after 4 times of the red rings of death). This is a PS3 exclusive and illustrates why this is a superior system. The graphics and gameplay are the stars in this title. The graphics pull you in and the gameplay hooks you. Most people say this game is overly difficult. You will die, you will die often. I often felt like death is another character in this game (enough of that deep stuff). Even if you do not like this game it would probably pay to hang onto this game for a while. In the past I have seen rare RPG games such as this one become extremely valuable (actually exceed the purchase price). I had trouble finding it at several stores and I don't think its because of its popularity. Just something to consider. Either way a must have for anyone who enjoys a good RPG or 3rd person non-shooter. To the 360 fans, go to Gamestop, trade that old thing in before it fails on you again for the umpteenth time and get a PS3 with this game. You will not regret it.

    Hardcore RPG, anyone?

This game isn't for the weak-willed gamers who only love to pull the trigger and or mash the buttons til kingdom come. I say so as this game will make a character die a million times before advancing an inch into a world/mission. This repetitive cycle tends to remove a player's consciousness into what he is really trying to accomplish: Am I fighting these demon's to get that darn key to open that gate? Or am I fighting them just to regain my lost souls? This and numerous other in-game brutality may shy players away but for some who don't mind sitting 10 hours straight a day just trying to get past one world, it sure is a source of satisfaction once overcome. This is also where grinding spells the difference in the game. And I mean real, intensive grinding to level up characters to status that would ensure success in conquering this game. Graphics sure isn't the topnotch but it's at least on par with the best ones out there. My big complaint about this game is music/sound effects. The world is quiet enough to give away the enemies' position yet, one can't even hear his character's footsteps while climbing a ladder. Also, I may sound crazy but, I think there ghosts in this game, as sometimes footsteps or hisses can be heard even when nobody's around anymore (like after all the enemies have been killed in an area) except the character. Makes me go like 'what the h*ll?'. Boss fight music is also very generic like a reap off from anime cartoons. Another complaint is about some enemies being so dumb. Imagine an enemy with thousands of HP getting trapped by his own doing, opening himself up for easy attacks. I mean, that alone takes a big chunk of challenge out in this game. Story-wise, this game isn't on par with the likes of Uncharted or Bioshock series but still decent. TO sum up, this game deserves all the "expert" review scores it got as it lives up to the hype, well, at least to it's being "hardcore" and the self-gratification after beating it. If you loved the great Diablo series, Fallout or any other amazing RPGs, then this game may be a welcome addition to your collection.

This game is as good as advertised. the story is pretty basic but its none the less extremely immersive. If you're having trouble with the game at first dont lose hope, you will get better the more you play. Thats part of why this game is special, it feels great when you finally best it. If the game still seems like too much for you there are plenty of strategy guides available for free on the web. Ive noticed a few visual glitches here and there but other than that this game is pretty well put together. the game world is awesome and it really sucks you in if you let it. i made the mistake of buying dragon age instead initially and regretted my decision about 2 or 3 hours into it. it went back to gamestop the same day.

Bought this game after i completed Uncharted 2. Bought this game cos i seen alot alot of good reviews about this game. After played it for 2-3hrs i realised i bought the wrong game. Cos i died so so many times in it. The game is so hard but can't stop me of playing it. You will get addicted and thinking about playing it all the time. Trust me this game is so much fun. You will be able to customise your characters & weapons. In another words.. this game is just like "Diablo" (PC game). If you like Diablo, you will love it. Compared to Uncharted 2 if i have to choose, i'd probably choose Demon's soul over it. Uncharted 2 is so easy and you will not get your a*s kicked. But Demon's soul? TRY & SEE for yourself. Enjoy:)

This game will control your life!

This is easily the best action RPG/MMO game I have played in over a decade! I will have to go back to the Phantasy Star days for the Sega Master and Genesis Systems over 15 years ago to find a game that absolutely controlled my life like Demon's Souls! I am on my second run through of the game with over 110 hours invested. The game is very challenging and will own you in a way no other game you've played has. And you WILL keep coming back for more. You will find yourself playing the same levels over and over again just to boost your soul experience and for some sick reason it NEVER gets boring! You will want to upgrade every weapon, unlock every secret, learn every miracle and learn every spell. Everything in the game has a consequence and cannot be undone until you either finish or start a new game. It creates extreme decision making that you may or may not regret based on the outcome. The presentation is excellent and the bosses are huge. When you finally make it to the end of a level to fight one of these bosses you will find yourself staring at the fog that blocks your path for a few minutes because you know that if you fail to defeat this boss Demon you will have to start the entire level over from the beginning with half your HP with all enemies re-spawned. This creates a heart pounding tension no other game has yet to produce. Demon's Souls can be a grind but it is also very rewarding. It is a game that will give you such satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment that no other game has yet to achieve. It is a game like no other and a game you will want to play through at least twice!

    A True Masterpiece!

This game is one of those rare masterpieces that only comes around every 4-5 years--brilliantly executed in every aspect. Very little fanfare, but absolutely captivates you--the same way X-COM UFO Defense did, the same way World of Warcraft did, the same way *insert your favorite game here* did--it's that brilliant. I would buy a PS3 just for this game alone. Combat feels intense, because EVERY fight can mean your death. The penalty for death can be steep--you'll resurrect, but if you die on the way back to your blood/death spot, you lose them forever! This aspect, alone with so many other reasons (enemy HUMAN players can invade your realm, taking heavy risks if they do--they lose an entire soul level), all of this just makes an intense, completely engrossing, just wonderful gem of a game. Why Atlus wouldn't release more of this title (it's already extremely rare to find, because of the limited quantities and it's amazingly brilliant gameplay) that I would not walk--but RUN to not only buy the game, but a PS3 SLIM, just for this game alone. Thank you for re-igniting my faith in game developers. A true classic.

There's a pretty steep learning curve to the game right off the bat however once you play for about an hour or two and pick up on the battle system it becomes really enjoyable. Without a doubt one of the most frustrating and challenging games I've played to date, expect to die a lot. There is also some good online capability allowing people to invade other peoples games and wreak havoc or join players in coop play. All in all worth every penny, just don't be surprised when you die the first ten times or so. Have fun.

Like everyone is saying, this game can be challenging. But, if you learn from your mistakes and play conservatively, you'll have no problem leveling up your character and finally whooping all those enemies that use to rock you. I hope that everyone would at least give this a rental and see just how good and how deep of a game it is. The graphics are really, really good with a few minor hiccups, like awkward rag doll physics and a little engine chugging when things get hectic, but the sheer brilliance and game play of this title more than makes up for it. Buy this game now, you won't be disappointed. But like I said, rent this game first if your on the fence about it. But if you do acquire a taste for it, I guarantee you won't be able to put Demon's Souls down.

I can't believe I love a game so much when i die every 5 minutes. Demon's souls is indeed the hardest game i have ever played in my life. If you don't like to die then this game isn't for you. The top players have died between 100 and 400 times. I think I have died more then that but it"s all part of the experience. You will have to put the game away almost every time you play it from frustration and seriously ponder trading it in or selling it for a new game. Then you will pick it up tomorrow and play it again. It's amazing I strongly reccomend it for people looking for a challenge.

Demon's Souls was certainly an unexpected experience for me. Upon purchasing the game after finding out about it online, I immediately became impressed with the epic feel of the game. Graphics are fantastic, sound is amazing. The game is extremely challenging but not in a "cheap" way but it really pushes you to think before acting and use proper strategy to win. This makes for a really immersive and enjoyable experience. Being that the game is very unforgiving if you die, one drawback is that if you're wanting a game that you can just sit back and relax, this isn't really that type of game. Few games make me sweat while playing due to fear of dying, and honestly it is a huge difference from so many games nowadays that hold your hand and make it too easy.
