Really happy with this receiver. Upgraded to 9.2 and Dolby Atmos for my new TV. Already has some high end Def Tech speakers, but added a couple of ProMonitor 800s for front height which are very effective for Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. Brought back a Yamaha that I had purchased, which was nice, but lacked some of the Denon features I missed, especially the Audyssey vs YPAO. Denon's version is just superior. This model is a little higher end than I had previously, but balances 2 subwoofers, has lots of power and can operate at low impedances. Room filling, high quality sound that you expect from Denon. The remote is a little generic at this price point. That's really the only con for me. I use strictly for home theater and can't really comment on the many available features that I don't even use, but for high quality sound to compliment the beauty of 4K video at home, this is top notch.

I picked up the Denon X4400H last week at my local Magnolia. Set up was a breeze, the easiest Denon AVR I have owned that was as simple as setting up a toaster in the big scheme of things. Integrated seamlessly with Comcast Xfinity, Apple TV, iPhone, iPad along with the new Sony Bravia I picked up. I have yet to program a remote, this is a first.
Do you own a phone with a ton of music on it? Just download HEOS to your phone, tablet or I believe even your computer. Hit the Bluetooth button on the Denon remote and hang on! I don't know what Denon has done, but I was blown away at how good the music sounded off of my phone. It was CD quality, and in some cases better if that was possible. On some tracks, especially live recordings, you felt like you were on the edge of the stage. The clarity was incredible, and this was off my iPhone 8. Movies on Xfinity are also incredible, plenty of sound features to really tune in the sound for the particular movie. I can only imagine what a BlueRay disc will sound like, I have yet to get past my phone to even try one out! I honeslty can see just ditching the Oppo BD unit, there really is no need to have one unless you have a large movie collection or are a SACD audio fan. But, the way Denon processes these iTunes and other audio files, I really do not see a need to even mess with a CD for audio. The sound out of this Denon is THAT good just off your phone.
Switching between HDMI sources, flawless. No lag or wait time, it was instantaneous. And that is another thing, much of my stuff runs off voice commands, and I have yet to hook up Alexis to this unit. Everything switches like magic. I am truly impressed. In fact I am so impressed with the ease of use, the Harmony Elite remote I purchased to control this system is going back, unopened. I don't need it. The Xfinity remote and the Denon remote is all that is needed. The Apple TV can be operated off of the iPad or iPhone at the table in the dining room. We have Netflix on the Xfinity unit, the AppleTV is honestly something that will rarely be used. No kids in the household, probably did not even need it as the Denon already has AirPlay built in and it works flawlessly for the audio side. Face it, there is not much out there in the way of movies, at least to our taste here. But that is another subject for another day.
Again, the sound and ease of use is just INCREDIBLE, and I cannot say that enough! If you are on the fence about the price, it just went on sale for $1399. I know that is quite a bit of money for a "stereo", but for what you are getting, and the incredible ease of use... Let me clarify how easy this system is to use. My 70+ years young mother lives with us, I set up her iPad with HEOS, she is already listening to music with no assistance from myself. Xfinity, no issues for her, everything just works as it always has, the Denon like magic just switches to what she wants, it is that easy. Though there is one issue, mom likes to play her music rather loud, not from hearing loss, but due to the fact it sounds that good. She has said more than a few times that it is like being in front of the stage. This is the same woman that yelled at us kids to "turn it down". ;-)
If you have the ability, just pull the trigger, you will not be dissapointed. Denon really hit it out of the park here, and I do not know how they could improve on this AVR, yes it is that good. One thing though, you will need quality speakers. Check out SVS (they make speakers too), Martin Logan, Definitive, etc... The better the speakers the happier you will be.
Like I said, if you are on the fence, just buy this baby, you will not be disappointed, as this Denon is already Mom Approved. ;-)

Unreliable and Overpriced

I'd like to preface this review that I am an audiophile, spending well over $15K on my home theatre set up. All of my purchases have been from Magnolia Home Theatre and this is my 3rd receiver in 10 years. It has been way more problematic than the previous two, which had no reliability or performance concerns.
Had this receiver under a year. It overheated in a well ventilated cabinet at low-medium volumes(30-50) during movies and football games. The unit would shut off so I had to purchase additional cabinet fans to remedy this. The fans would not stop the unit from overheating when I would turn up the volume during movies. Very frustrating.
Then one day, a relay on the receiver died and only picture displayed with no volume. Warranty claim process is less than desirable. Next time, I'll purchase Geek Squad warranty (and different brand receiver) rather than deal with this. Customer support from Denon is good, but product support is not worth the hassle. Had to send the receiver to a Denon authorized repair facility. The turn around time was over a month and they sent me a new receiver. However, it is experiencing the same overheating issues. It's now on Ebay and Craig's list.
When you pay this much for a receiver, you expect it to perform and be reliable. Denon's focus was on features rather than performance and reliability. This receiver replaced an Okyno receiver that I pushed hard for over 4 years. It didn't have all the bells and whistles, but it was reliable. Bottom line, not worth the money nor trouble. I'll not purchase another Denon receiver due to this experience.

Avoid if you use bluetooth

Doesn't actually support bluetooth. If you connect a BT device and it issues a connection the receiver will automatically switch to the BT input. Watching a movie...poof BT. Watching tv...poof BT! They insist this hijacking is perfectly fine and refuse to issue a fix despite having the setting to disable this on their *low end* models.
