Nice Receiver. Love the onscreen setup and speaker calibration as well as the HDMI on the front so I can use my laptop on the TV. I also love the built in functionality of internet radio, XM, Napster, and Spotify. Some things I didn't like were the remote control apps and the remote control itself. They are basic. The subwoofer doesn't function when I use bluetooth from my phone. This unit gets VERY hot. The amp failed on the first unit after 3hrs but Best Buy promptly sent a replacement. I have a cooling fan mounted on this one and haven't had any issues so far. The volume is not what I'm used to either. You can't hear anything unless the unit is turned up to at least 45 or 50.

Great mid size Home Theater receiver. It has everything you could need and maybe a little bit more. Easy to set up and easy to calibrate with the included Calibration Microphone and the Audyssey internal system (I recommend to use external apple / android app). With an external amp you could setup 12 ATMOS / DTS-X channels. Actually I’m using my old and trusty Onkio receiver in order to amplify the channels 10 and 11 (atmos height back) One of the few receivers with Auro Surround option. Full Wifi / Bluetooth connectivity. 8K video capable (just one oft he HDMI ports). Great quality

Pros: 125 w channel into 2 channels - plenty of power, Audyssy room correction, Atmos, Auro 3D. I actually like the remote and use it as a universal remote for my entire system. Cons: no receiver yet made can memorize what TV app you are using - like an input, I switch between Tidal and Netflix or HBO max apps and constantly have to toggle back and forth between stereo/pure or Atmos, Auro 3d. Hopefully the industry will understand one day that everyone is streaming now and DVDs aren't themain way people what movies anymore. No master volume display available from the denon when using the denon remote to watch TV apps, which isnt the end od the world, my TV remote will allow for this but I don't use the tv remote as I need to toggle the sound input allot. Why? See above. My advice is look into Auro 3d(Euro version of Atmos), to my ears standard 5.1 mixes sound better in Auro 3d and thats 85% of streaming content. This receiver a great overall and does everything well, even I-max sound on my Jumanji dvd. My ub820 dvd player picture looks tremendous, so good 4k video processing for DVDs. Sounds awesome doing 2 channel stereo music as well. I use an external amp to run a 5.2.4 system, this one will do all 9 channels on its own, assuming your subs are self powered but be aware you may want to add an external amp, depending on the size of your speakers, I used Marantz 7055, to power the other half of my speaker system(all Kef) and compatible sound wise with Denon.

This is my 4th Denon AVR - upgrading from a X4000 most recently. Overall I’m very happy with the upgrade - I bought it to work better with my new 77” LG OLED CX and PS5. I haven’t been able to test out everything (like 4K 120HZ, VRR or ALM on the PS5), but so far 4K 60HZ has been working well. The audio also sounds a little better than the X4000 and it’s nice to be able to decode some of the newer formats like Dolby Atmos (even though I don’t have the speaker setup to take full advantage of it). The only complaint I have right now is that I’m experiencing a lot more HDMI HDCP handshake issues than I did on my old X4000 - more than half the time I’ve got to power cycle components to get everything working when I turn on the system. I’m trying to fix that issue by adjusting the Power On sequence with my new Harmony Elite but so far the Harmony software has made that impossible (no surprise there).

Excellent receiver with great sound. Setup was simple and the sound quality with Dolby Atmos really makes the movies and shows that I watch come to life. I upgraded from an older Yamaha Aventage system that was a 7.2 channel and the Denon AVR-X4700 is well worth the price. My only minor complaint is that I miss some of the settings for sound on my old system.

Great quality and very easy to set up. I bought this as an upgrade to my home theater. I’m currently running a 7.2.2 configuration with Klipsch Reference speakers and subs. The sound is fantastic and the upscaling is awesome. I little expensive, but I’m planning for the future with 8K capability.

swiss army knife of home entertainment

I've had the Denon AVR-X4700H for 3 weeks at the time of this review. After moving into my new home I wanted to upgrade my home entertainment system. My old TV/movie setup was an older complete 5.1 system in one box set up. It still sounded good but was not 4K compatible. I had to run a lot of adapters to hook my VCR to my 4K TV and had to run different sound and video cables from my 4K player to the tv and sound system. Then I still needed my 30 year old audio receiver for my audio cassette deck and record player. This receiver runs ALL my media. I currently have it connected to my 4K TV, 4K disc player, PS4, VCR, audio cassette deck, and my turntable. Add the fact that streaming off my smart TV will play back through the ARC channel and that I use the FM radio tuner and bluetooth streaming music from my phone..... It's the best complete do everything system I could have possibly hoped for. Plus there's still plenty of open connections for adding more devices, although I'm not sure what else I would want to hook up. I had to buy a subwoofer because the one from old 5.1 was not compatible so I picked up a few more speakers and am now running 7.1.2 out of this receiver with no external amps. The included microphone auto tuning setup is kind of complicated but worth the effort because the surround sound quality is excellent. Truth be told, it took me several days of reading the manual, watching videos online, and checking with the Denon website to get all my older devices working the way I wanted them to. But, since I got it figured out, they all work great and I'm very pleased with it. I'm not any kind of audio expert, just old and refuse to throw my old media away when new types come out. This may not mean much to anyone else but the biggest surprise this receiver gave me was the fact that it filters out the audio hiss from my audio cassette player. My 30 year old receiver didn't do that. As for new tech, watching 4K disc movies (like Top Gun Maverick) is totally mind blowing! The 7.1.2 is as close to being at the movie theater as I can imagine in my living room. This unit is pretty pricey, however, the fact that it is my swiss army knife of home entertainment, I believe that it was money well spent. If it lasts as long as my old audio receiver, then it will outlast me and be worth every penny.

I have had about every brand of AVR. I have owned the Denon X4700H for 4weeks and played it several hours every day. I have driven if hard and can say it is a good mid AVR. It has many features that will help you to dial in the sound. I am running a 5.1.4 setup all powered by the X4700H. It does good as long as you are not expecting reference volume watching movies. I can get 80db consistently in my room that measures 23X14 with cathedral ceilings that is open on one side. Not ideal but audessy x32 helps a lot! I have all Deftec speakers. The LR are in wall DI6.5LCR, surrounds Promonitor 1000 and the in ceiling are Di6.5R. Sub SVSPC2000. Center is Procenter 2000. Take your time learning the features of the amp and you will be fine. The Denon and Heos apps work but need refined.

This receiver replaced my Denon 4400 to be fully compatible with the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The Audyssey works great for an initial setup, had to tweak it to get the receiver's full potential. Audyssey didn't acknowledge all height speakers, after a few and easy adjustments the sound is absolutely mind-blowing, especially in Dolby Atmos. We watched the last three Star Trek movies, and it makes you feel like you are in the middle of the action. Every time the Enterprise goes into warp drive you can feel the sound racing through the room from behind to the front within a fraction of a second.

I'm a long time Onkyo fan, and even though their new line-up for 2021 is weeks away, I wanted a new AVR, so I went with my 1st Denon AVR, the X4700H. It was simple to connect all of my inputs and speakers. My unit already had the latest firmware updates, so that was nice/convenient. I found using the phone app to set it up to be convenient, especially since you cannot see all of the Audio -> Sound Parameter settings available unless you have a device connected to it that can utilize certain features, such as Dolby Loudness Management. This is a very poor way of managing your setup. All options / settings should be there without being hidden, in my opinion. That's why I think Onkyo does a much better job in their setup system. They give you everything, nothing is a mystery. So, I can say that this Denon has the latest tech, which sets it apart from other AVR products out there. And, even without using the Audyssey sound calibration tools that comes with it, it sounds good out of the box, but of course, you really have to tune it to get the best sound in the room you're in. It has 11 channels of sound processing, although the built-in amp on it only powers 9 channels. I have some external amps, and I also liked the fact that I could switch to my external amps, instead of using the built-in amps. This new-line of Denon AVR's allow you to bypass the built-in amps and go into pre-processor mode, so you can use external amp(s), and...effectively not draw any power to the built-in amps, helping the AVR run...cooler? Hmmm... So, the built-in amps are the 1st problem. They run HOT!!! Sadly, even when I chose the pre-processor mode, which is supposed to not use the built-in amps, this AVR was still running just as hot, so that was very concerning. And...that may explain why my unit must have been a defective one. I encountered two problems: [1st Problem ] I have 5 devices that are HDCP 2.2 / 2.3 compliant connected to the HDMI ports on the back of the AVR, one of the HDMI inputs is labeled as DVD, and it stopped working. I had the latest Roku Ultra connected to it, and I used it just fine on my Onkyo AVR. Anyway, the video flickered off and on every 1.5 seconds and then after a few minutes, I heard a popping sound. After that, nothing could be displayed from that HDMI input. I tried reconnecting using a different cable but nothing happened. No device I connected to it would show / regsiter as being connected. I tried the Roku on the other HDMI inputs and it worked just fine cable. [2nd Problem] Sound will sometimes drop out, after a few minutes after switching to a new input. I had to power the unit off, and then back on, to restore sound. Bummer! So, the 2nd HDMI input (DVD) was defective, and sometimes, the sound will drop-out after switching to a new input. That was when I decided to unhook the Denon, reconnect my tried-and-true Onkyo unit, pack-up the Denon and return it. Denon & Marantz products seem to be the only players to have the latest tech specs, but, this sure is a bad start. LOL. I was going to just sit back and wait on the new Onkyo & Pionneer AVR's to be released this Summer, but, I'm going to leave Denon alone, and try my luck with a Marantz Pre-Processor / Pre-Amp unit, instead. I think this is just one of those things, where, eventually, you will get a bad unit, but, this AVR has the potential of being a really nice one, despite other issues around using all of the video features on the Xbox Series X, but Denon has a (free) hardware add-on to support that, so kudos to them. All I can say is try your luck. If you get lucky and hit the Quality Control lottery, then this unit could be a 5-star winner for you. Unfortunately, I was not so lucky, and I'm back on the hunt for something else.

This is replacing a $3500 separate processor and amp so I have adjusted my expectations. I really like the HEOS capabilities. I use HEOS throughout my house and had been using a HEOS link to get it to my theater room. Now it’s integrated into my receiver. The setup is easy, classic Denon menus. Sound is good. A little brighter then my previous setup but still enjoying it. Power and output are a little less then I am use to but I don’t playback at the high volumes very often.

Just getting things up and running with a simple 5.2 setup till my speakers and wires get here. I also bought an ac infinity aircom T10 for this bad boy. Can't wait to utilize the other half of this AVR! sounds awesome with radio and streaming and is very easy to operate. It just has so much built in to it that I find something new every day.
