Strong, Clear, Wish the USB to iPod were Perfect

I am very impressed with the Power and Clarity of the AVRX7200WA. However, I have my iPod connected via the USB port. For some reason the Television Onscreen charge reading keeps jumping all over the place from 70% to 100% - in constant motion which is distracting. In addition, the music occasionally pauses for a moment, then continues. Also very distracting. I have been through two AVRX5200 units in the past and had to return them for different functionality reasons. My strong suggestion is to buy the maximum Geek Squad protection from Best Buy when purchasing one of these units. My last AVRX5200 started constantly going into protection mode at low levels, for no reason. Best Buy was good enough to allow a full return without forcing a long, extended "repair" that would have kept me without a receiver for a long time, in hopes that it would be properly fixed. The Denon units perform well, but based on my experiences, you need Geek Squad protection.

    So Far, So Good

I highly suggest you purchase Geek Squad Protection for as long as possible with every Denon receiver. I have been through 2 AVR-X5200 units in the past and would have been out of luck without Geek Squad. I called Denon, and if I only had their warranty I would have had to either send them the bad units or drive them over to one of their service centers. Either way I would have been receiverless for an undetermined period of time. Geek Squad delivered new units and did the swap out immediately so that I was never without and they did all the set-up work. The AVR-X5200 was the "Big Dog" for Denon when I bought the first one. It had a problem with Bluetooth functionality so Geek Squad delivered a new 5200 which worked great for about 11 months, then it developed a catastrophic problem going into "Protection Mode". Thankfully I had Geek Squad behind me and they took care of things. I paid the difference to step up to the current "Big Dog" - this AVR-X7200. Geek Squad took the old unit, hooked this up and it is awesome - for now. I can tell you that the 7200 runs much cooler than the 5200's. They must have done a much better job with the heat sinks. I now have less air space and the 7200 runs much cooler - probably 75% cooler! The 7200 is amazingly strong and so clear that it is incredible. I really like this unit and have had no problems thus far. The only issue I see is playing my iPod connected to the USB port with the Apple cord. When my iPod plays onscreen, the charge percentage constantly jumps around. 70%, 90%, 100% - constantly in motion and it does bug when I look at the screen. I do think this is an issue with the receiver as I never had this problem with previous Denon receivers. But it could be an iPod issue (doubtful). Anyway, we will see with time. If this is the only issue, I will live with it. If it develops a problem, I will be calling Geek Squad for another free replacement.

Does everything that I wanted from a reciever. I highly recommend this avr. From am fm to HD Radio. Internet radio Bluetooth capable. I'm running a 7.1 right now but will be moving up to 7.1.4 atmos as soon as possible. A little pricey but worth every penny.

Finally!!!! The receiver I have been waiting for all my life! Can't tell you how PERFECT the Audio is in my home now. Simply incredible. The Power, Clarity, Balance - absolute Perfection! Sure, you need high quality speakers to match up to this device, but I had that in the past and didn't have Perfection, now I do!!! You will need to learn how to use HEOS, and I discovered HEOS doesn't work if you have a direct line into the Receiver. The Denon must be using the same Wi-Fi as everything else. HEOS is good, but takes some getting used to which is why I am giving ease of use "good". I am still getting used to HEOS, but the Audio and Video quality going through this receiver is simply outstanding.

I built an 11.1 surround system around this AVR and Martin Logan speakers. A key feature of this unit that I wanted was Dolby Atmos. Everything sounds fantastic and the setup and configure process was easy. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the documentation and support specifically regarding the Atmos setup is a little confusing and contradictory.

High end and sometimes problematic! I’ve had this unit now for almost 4 years and it has just started to have odd issues that are know by Denon. Contacted Denon and they’re now trading/upgrading my unit an paying the difference. Won’t complain about price when I get great service such as this.

Setup was much easier than I expected! Just follow the onscreen directions after connection. Everything is also customizable to suite my usage and preferences. No reservations so far. I was using separate amps and a '70's tuner to get the quality I liked. This thing really performs! I want to especially comment on the FM tuner. Much more open and clear than anything I have used. The Addition of HD radio is quite nice. The Bluetooth connection is a breeze! Great purchase. I'm always satisfied with the best.

Good sound, but lacking in areas

    Posted .

+ Clean clear sound + Remote control via web browser and phone app + Phono input + Selectable audio (analog, optical, etc.) and video (HDMI, component, etc.) for any input device (DVD, Blu-ray, etc.) - Quirky HDMI operation - No analog record out - Minimal customization of surround mode parameters - No printed manual I found myself in a predicament when my 12 year-old Denon AVR-5803 blew a channel and wouldn't turn on. I had been waiting for a new receiver with both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. None were available at the time, but the Denon AVR-X7200WA had Atmos and promised an upgrade to DTS:X when it became available. Ten weeks in and DTS:X has yet to appear for the AVR-X7200WA. The AVR-X7200WA has clean unrestrained sound for music in both stereo and surround. CDs, DVD-Audio and SACD disks all sound great. It has a phono input, which seems to be a rare thing these days, and my vinyl sounds great as well. I'm still in the process of ripping my vinyl to digital, and the AVR-X7200WA doesn't have any 'analog out' jacks, per se, but I found a work around, after running into a brick wall with Denon support on this. I found that the Zone 2 output can be used for this purpose, that is if you're not using that output for its intended purpose. The results have been acceptable. If you connect the AVR-X7200WA to your home network, it can be controlled, to some degree, from a PC or phone app, if you have Wi-Fi enabled. The full functionality of the supplied RC-1194 remote control is lacking, but you can control most basic functions, like adjusting volume, sound modes and switching input devices, and the interfaces let you know the sound level setting and sound modes. Adjusting, and saving, settings, such as surround parameters, can't be done. One nice thing is the ability to assign audio and video inputs to a given 'device'. For instance, I was able to assign Coaxial2 and Component1 as the audio and video inputs, respectively, for my media player. One disappointment has been the quirky HDMI operation of the AVR-X7200WA. Frequently, and randomly, both video and audio will stop periodically after switching to a component while the TV is set to HDMI. I have to turn the TV off and on to correct the problem. Doing the same with the AVR-X7200WA, also corrects the problem, but takes longer. Another issue for me is the lack of surround customization, for instance, being able to adjust parameters for delay, echo, etc., and save them, for a given surround setting, as I had been able to do with previous receivers. Also, the manual for the AVR-X7200WA is only supplied on CD and online, meaning if you need to reference it while using your new receiver, you need to print your own 300+ page copy, or scroll through pages on your electronic device. In a word, inconvenient. After finally getting the speakers installed in the ceiling for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X use, I found that there is no indication the receiver is using Atmos. At best, the sound mode indicates 'Dolby Surround'. It turns out some older Blu-ray players, like my Oppo BDP-93, are not compatible with an Atmos data stream. Not the fault of the AVR-X7200WA, but I will need to spend more money to get Atmos. Recommended, with reservations.

Installed as 7.2.2, the configuration provides good channel separation with sufficient volume at all speakers which allows complete immersion into the sound. Installation is relatively easy and audyssey sound calibration is affective.

    Be careful with Denon Waranty

I own and have owned multiple denon receivers( 3310, 4311,4520) , Amplifiers(POA-A1HDCI) , Bluray players and many smaller units. Denon and their repair center are not very trust worth as far as repair and warranty coverage goes, specially on an expensive unit, Think twice before spending a few thousand $s on a Denon product.
