I loved playing this game the graphics are amazing and I love the story line. I hope the creators make more games like this. Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls are good too. But I’ll have to say Detroit is my favorite. I’m from Michigan and this game did a excellent job replicating Detroit and it’s features. I wonder what 2038 Detroit is gonna look like.

Detroit Become Human lets you write the story of what happens when robotic programming goes awry on a massive scale. The concept and execution come together beautifully into one of the more memorable and significant video game experiences of 2018. As you might expect for a new PS4 exclusive, the production quality and graphics of Detroit Become Human are superb. Realistic weather effects make you wish the game was set in Miami instead of a frozen Motown. The lighting is also especially well-done. Perhaps most impressive of all is the life-like facial animations which may convince you that androids are in-fact people too. Sound quality is up to snuff, but not particularly noteworthy. However, the voice acting is remarkable. Going in, you might expect the androids to sound like Dennis Klatt, but the voice actors were well-cast with excellent and context-appropriate delivery and expression. As a whole, gameplay is more than adequate. The game is well-polished and doesn't contain any noticeable bugs. Difficulty is largely irrelevant. If you make a plastic-headed mistake, just keep going and live with the consequences. That's kinda the point. The only short-circuit in this department is the control scheme. A number of interactions require use of the right thumb stick which also moves the camera, so at times you might look around foolishly instead of performing an action. Other sequences require a third thumb (or similar appendage) to properly execute. This has the potential to spoil immersion. The writing for Detroit Become Human is is anything but robotic. The dynamic story revolves around player choice and weaves together the stories of 3 disparate androids as they fight to break free from their programming to become free-willed beings. Determine the fate of android-human relations. Protest? Fight? Hop the border to freedom? The choice is yours, and that is what makes Detroit Become Human one of the most enjoyable games in recent memory.

I had a good time marvelling at this beautiful game: excellent voice acting, mo-cap, and interesting story. I enjoyed the previous couple Quantic Dream games and this one is certainly an evolution. Choose your own adventure-style gameplay makes for a fair amount of replayability. But I just wish I had more desire to jump back into this game to play again. The final act just did not resonate with me and left me disappointed after all the build-up leading up to it. I'm glad I played it, but I'm just not necessarily looking forward to playing it again.

This is an amazing game, especially if you like a narrative. I loved that this game told a story and you were in charge of how that story unfolded. Will you be peaceful or combative? Sometimes, the lines are blurred between the two. Even though this game isn't a shooter, you still have to survive your choices, keep your friends alive, use lots of stealth and often non-lethal (or lethal depending on the choices your make) attacks to progress. This game has tremendous replay value, in that there are a huge quantity of choices. If you think some of the characters look and/or sound familiar, it's because they hired famous actors you probably know and the characters look like them. The skill level of the actors, coupled with the use of motion capture, where the actors actually preformed ALL the choices, while they were recording the dialog, makes the game feel more like an immersive box office movie, and you're in the shoes of the lead actor. I know it's a frequent practice in both games and animated movies to have each actor record their lines individually in a sound booth. But it's the live interaction between each of the actors/characters, with them responding to another person, and not just saying their lines, that puts this game in such a higher level than many other games, and even some movies. If this style of game play is something you enjoy, you will love this game.

Lookout Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls

First off the story, graphics, sound, replay value and voice acting really shine especially if you have played Heavy Rain. There is an evolution. The chronological and three central protagonists approach to the narrative structure was ideal helping the player of any skill level to understand how each of the androids reach their goal despite being from different backgrounds. There are multiple paths to reach objectives or earn certain trophies. The only drawback being you may lose a little or a lot of progress in your chapter completion due to checkpoints not always being conveniently placed. A missed or undesirable critical choice may cause you to have to repeat chapters or do another play through entirely due to how the game saves data. This is just a warning for trophy hunters. For example (without spoilers) Connor early in the game has two distinct paths which if you choose one key path over another you would definitely have to repeat a lot of the game to get the alternate path. To me this ups the replay value but trophy hunters might see it as a problematic. Lastly if you have played Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human the narratives lend themselves to exist in the same universe, in my opinion.

This story is a good one. It really pulls you into the story from the beggining. There are 3 main characters to play with, Connor (an android cop who has been tasked to investigate fellow androids), Markus (privileged android who is called to a higher purpose) and Kara (a caretaker/mother android). There are a lot of ways the story can go, characters you get close to can die ... choices, as well as relationships you make, affect things later in the story. Play through once without going back to do anything over is the best way to go... you really feel responsible when you do that. Unlock points by doing things differently...which in turn you can use to "buy" extras such as videos, soundtracks, and the character gallery. The trophies are pretty easy to get but mutliple playthroughs might be needed. i've played through a few times and i'm still finding outcomes i havent seen, which is cool. Nice game but dont pay full price for it.

If nothing else, Detroit Become Human gets points for originality. Quantic Dreams stands out for creating yet another game that emphasizes storytelling over shooting, looting, hacking, and slashing. The gameplay is relatively simplistic - you walk around, interact with people and objects, and make choices. During more intense scenes, you'll participate in quick time events. Detroit wins out over Telltale's Walking Dead games for me due to higher presentation value and a vastly greater array of choices. Here, your choices feel like they really do matter, and after each chapter, you get to see how many ways your decisions could have potentially played out. It's a novel way to show to the player how many options they had and greatly increases the replay value. Your choices have an impact on what happens as well as your relationship with other characters. After some types of decisions, you see immediately whether your choice had a positive or negative effect on another character's opinion of you, keeping you on your toes and incentivized to make the best decision possible. It's not so cut and dry though, with decisions often being perceived well by some and not so well by others, again opening the door to more viable gameplay options. Compare this game to, say, Heavy Rain back on the PS3 and the difference in budget is abundantly apparent. The graphics are impressive, and this pays off greatly for facial expressions - paramount for emotional investment and giving things an overall movie-like quality. The title easily betrays the somewhat basic premise of androids becoming more human, but it's unfair to say the game is derivative for this. Playing as 3 separate characters who each have their own highly unique playstyles and stories is keeps things fresh, and each story is engaging in its own way. "Playable movie" is an overly simplistic way of viewing this game and doesn't speak to the fantastic narrative and ocean of choices it provides. This is Quantic Dreams' best work yet.

I played Heavy Rain shortly before playing this, and while it's very much the same style of game, I believe that it is way, way better than Heavy Rain was. This game is not so much a video game as it is a long, interactive, choose-your-own-adventure movie. I'm probably going to make several comparisons with Heavy Rain here, since that's the only other game I've played that really compares in style. Except, it is a bit like visual novels. A bit. Visual novels are typically static images, so the way the game looks is very different from a visual novel, but the idea of it being essentially a way of consuming a story rather than a game you play is similar. There are branching paths, which visual novels usually also have, although I think the branching path aspect of this game is far more detailed and complex than you get with most visual novels. Where the game is different from VNs in negative ways is that it doesn't allow you to make different save files at different points so you can easily backtrack to see the different paths, nor does it allow you to easily skip past parts you've already seen. In order to see the different paths, you have to replay the entire game over again in full (which takes around 10 hours), or at least replay from a certain chapter once you unlock that chapter, and any new game writes over any previous saved games. This is, in my opinion, a huge detriment to a branching-path story, since there's really no easy way to skip around and see all the paths. I do think there's replay value, but it's not the kind of game you can sit down and see everything at once because you'd get sick of the repeated stuff before you got through all the different stuff. Back to the Heavy Rain comparisons. The story is much, much better. Of course, I'm very fond of androids and I like sci-fi much better than detective/serial killer stories, so I was predisposed to like this much better. But I do think the story is better overall. Not perfect, of course. There are a lot of worldbuilding things that it's better to not examine too closely, and some of the plot "twists" are kinda there for no real reason. But there's no "WTF?" twist like there was in Heavy Rain. The controls are better in that you use the left stick to move around and the right one to look, but it's still pretty clunky and limited compared to more traditional games. The graphics are way, way better (as you'd expect). Whereas Heavy Rain had one doofy-looking guy, one kinda cute-in-a-dorky-way guy, and one flat out ugly guy, Detroit has two guys who are genuinely attractive, which made for a much more pleasant viewing experience. (The lady character is also very pretty. And the side characters were a wide variety of appearances, some also quite attractive, and few of them outright ugly.) The scenery and sci-fi stuff is also very pretty. So, visually, it's quite a treat. As far as the QTEs, the easy mode is actually pretty easy (as opposed to Heavy Rain's easy mode), so I didn't really have any problem succeeding in nearly all of the QTEs, which was very welcome. I did enjoy the story. I went the pacifist route and tried to let as few characters die as possible. I didn't always succeed, so that's probably something I'd try to improve on the next playthrough, but I did enough to get the "good" ending. There were some touching character moments, including some surprising ones I wasn't expecting. The characters are all pretty likable and sympathetic, and the relationships that develop between them are often heartwarming. (But again, I do have a huge soft spot for androids.) I felt like the endings were a bit truncated. I sat through the credits, thinking maybe the ending cutscenes would come after them, but then it went back to the main screen and I realized that was it. So, even when you get the good ending, the endings are actually really short, even compared to Heavy Rain, which I think did a more thorough job of giving everyone a little ending scene. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this game if you like games that are all about the story and not about gameplay, and especially if you're fond of androids. I'm definitely planning on coming back to this one periodically to play through once in a while.

I'm absolutely blown away by this game. The graphics are jaw dropping, as is the world building. The story is pretty good and can be exciting a lot of the time. If I had to give it a complaint it would simply be I want more, at only 8 hours long it might be a bit short for some, that said there is enormous replay potential, if you want to see all the branching paths the game will take 30 hours plus to complete!! Overall, an amazing narrative driven single player game, hopefully more games like these come out.

I had a lot of fun playing this one it has a great story with multiple endings. Once you finish one playthrough your gonna wanna start another to make different choices and see the new out comes. It also has great graphics and voice acting which draws you into the story even more, which is good cause it's a complex and emotional story. As for gameplay it's nothing special but still fun if just to see how the story goes. This game may even be better then Heavy Rain.

First off let me start by saying I have played the other games from QuanticDream, so I know about their style of game play, plot feeling, and the twists and turns you will experience. With that said.... HOLY CRAP! This game just grabs you right from the start and pulls you through a roller coaster of emotion and heartbreak with no stops till the very end. There were several points were I had to stop, pause, and breath. Choices given to me felt like I was forced to pick the lesser of 2 evils, I was worried about my characters getting killed off, or how the world would react to their actions. I took a while to write this review because I wished to play more then one play through, and believe me, it is amazing. Seeing how actions change the story, is just well done, BUT, with that said, multi play throughs will also show some of the weakness of the illusion of choice. It is an on rails sort of feel, with death being the only HUGE change in the first half of the game. That doesn't take away from the game at all, but it is something to keep in mind. I recommend this game to anyone looking for an amazing story driven game where you do feel like your choices matter. Be warned, this will get your emotions boiling, and what happens, is all up to you.

I primarily bought this game of the title alone, anytime Detroit is featured in a video game (rare) it's a must have. I've played games from this company and of this caliber in the past, but I must say Detroit is the best if you actually follow the story and make good decisions it's an interesting story that makes you think. The total package story, controls, visual all met my expectations, Detroit helps to show off the power of the PS4.

I've played through portions of this game and not only does it look amazing, it might also be Quantic's smoothest game yet. Heavy Rain is one of the best experiences I've ever had playing a video game, but the controls were poor, at best. Beyond: Two Souls told a confusing narrative, but the controls were improved. Detroit takes the best parts of both of those games, and tells a solid story along with improved, albeit imperfect controls.

Well if you are a graphics junkie, the checkbox is well checked. You will be well satisfied with the presentation and the expressions of the characters. It really puts you in the story. Which brings me to why I am mad. I am mad, and being mad shows how well the story and characters are to me while playing this game. It completely drew me in and I care about them. No spoilers of course but I got an ending (I am a complete klutz when hitting buttons when called upon to do so), that 0% of the world got. Zero! Zilch, nada. And I'll tell ya, that ending had me sitting in my chair, shaking my head, mad and saddened. I loved the character! How could I screw up so badly to let that happen! Immediately I am on my second playthrough. I will make it right! Comes to the replay factor. Granted you are going through the story so you know what you have already done but there is a mind boggling amount of paths that you "could" have taken that make the replay value through the roof. Now, if you want hardcore relentless action, this game is not for you. This is a game driven by story, thought on themes, and characterization. That is my jam so to speak. I loved Heavy Rain. So there you go. If you are in my camp. This is a no brainer. A must addition to your collection. I am completely enamored with this title and could not give it more praise.

Like a lot of people, I loved Heavy Rain and thought Beyond Two Souls was just decent. Detroit is a consistently enjoyable experience with an engaging story. Each of the 3 characters you play as have their own unique playstyle. As Conner you investigate crimes by analyzing evidence, reconstructing crime scenes, and occasionally giving chase. As Kara, you're having to make the best decisions to keep you and a little girl safe. As Marcus you look out for the greater good of a group of outcast androids and sometimes analyze terrain to perform advanced parkour. Their objectives are vastly different from each other so things never get stale. Graphics are top-notch. The high-action sequences and amazing score combine to make for exhilarating moments. The themes have been criticized as worn-out by this point, but that could be said for many movies as well. The way the themes are presented in the story is perfect imo. A flow chart at the end of each chapter shows just how many branching actions there are and offer a very compelling reason to replay scenes. I really enjoyed comparing my actions to the rest of the world and friends using the percentages shown on this chart. Overall would highly recommend, regardless of whether you're typically a fan of interactive storytelling games.
