Different Shades of Blues - and Joe Bonamassa

As JB states, Different Shades of Blue isn't just a new chapter - it's a new book. On this CD you will hear songs with just about every influence imaginable: blues, R&B, a little funk, some rock, some country ... you name it. I don't think you'll be able to pick a single song and say this is the one that defines this CD, because there is so much diversity going on here.
I've always enjoyed JB's vocals, but historically they have been overshadowed by his unbelievable work on the guitar. With this CD, there seems to be more of a balance between his guitar, his vocals, and the contributions of other artists (something that emerged from the Vienna show#. There is more emphasis on the song as a whole, and less dependence on Joe's exemplary guitar playing #which there is plenty of here).
The 4 concerts of Tour de Force showcased Joe's evolution up to a certain point; this CD gives us an idea of what's on his mind now - and it's very good. But as much as I like this new CD, I probably would have preferred something that was a little less "all over the map". I guess that's what happens when you've mastered so many musical styles. Depending on your mood, you're bound to find some favorites here.
If you're new to JB, I advise you start with his double-CD Live at Royal Albert Hall. This is a great sampler of his work prior to this CD. You'll hear a lot of long songs showcasing his guitar genius. Then follow that up with his Vienna acoustic show, to hear a completely different approach with a different group of musicians supporting him. Many guitarists can excel in electric or acoustic, but typically not both. Joe's styles and abilities put him in a league all his own. This guy is absolutely incredible.

Joe Bonamassa is the best guitar player that you've never heard of. Joe does it his way without a major label. I've seen him live 13 times. He is the best I've ever seen. If you get the chance go see this guy, you won't be disappointed.

This latest album effort from JB "Different Shades of Blue" is fantastic and I highly recommend it for any music fan. His trademark Guitar licks are certainly present through out but the use of horns and different styles ranging from Blues, Rock, R & B shows just how much he is growing as a musician. This guy is unbelievable and he can play any style. Truly a guitar master and will no doubt rank among the greatest guitarist of all time before it's all said and done. He in fact is already there. Enjoy this excellent music experience and play it loud and often.

There's only 1 slow song on here I could do without. Joe B. is, as always, amazing. The Blues Shuffle number is my fave, even the other two slow songs are awesome. The uptempo ones, well.... It's Joe B. If you're a blues fan or simply a guitar virtuoso afficienado, then BUY THIS CD! Is it on VINYL?????? I haven't looked. Great production quality, not over produced. Joe returning to his roots - plus now he has a singing voice. I saw him about 10 years ago at the Blues Alley in Georgetown, DC. He's gotten better with time!!!!!

I'm enjoying this new CD from Joe. I've listened about 5 times now and it continues to grow on me. The use of the horns are somewhat new for Joe's music. However, most of the songs have a nice driving force behind them. The song writing is still top notch.
I have all of Joe's material, including his other efforts (outside of his solo albums). I usually listen to him on random. This CD seems to fit in very well when mixed in and radomized with his other solo stuff.
Still one of the best guitarists on the planet.
