This movie is based on the 3 book trilogy by Veronica Roth. Taken as the cinematic version of the first book, this movie is enjoyable. However, the latest trend in making these trilogies into movies and then dispersing them one at a time at six month to a year intervals, has gotten old. Anyone who has read the books knows this plot has some major twists to it.

like the hunger games, divergent has a young woman as the catalyst for doing the right thing; unlike the hunger games, it shows an older woman running the dark side with her and her lackies dismissing any opposition as being too ignorant to have any input. maybe the message is "always use your brain and try to develop all of your talents, you will need them"

This movie has drama, action, and suspense. It will keep you entertained. It nice to see a girl as a hero for a change. This was the best of this series (so far); we have seen the sequel and did not feel it was up to the quality of this one (Insurgent - weak plot she is too undecisive). My family enjoyed Divergent and will recommend to others.

I went into watching this movie with very low expectations. With what others had told me I was expecting it to be like The Hunger Games which I couldn't even stand 15 minutes of. It was a little slow at the beginning while explaining the story line. It took longer to really start to like the main character, but the story overall was good. The steelbook is also nice to add to any steelbook collection.

This is a great film and obviously a build up to something…sequels. Not as much action as I thought but the story and character development is very detailed as they build up to the finale and setting the tone for a sequel or two. Picture quality is first rate and the 7.1 lossless audio is perfect. I liked it and can't wait to see Insurgent.

A great adventure and an interesting look at a possible future. The acting, story, action and special affects are all top notch and beautifully done. I was not aware that Divergent is one of a series and I can't wait for the next installment. I did not want the movie to be over and left with wanting more. This is must have for your movie collection.

Being someone who had read the books, I was worried they would change it too much, but am happy to say they kept most of the main storylines and only down side is they took away some of the small details and characters and didn't show a lot of the characters personality changes and interactions with each other. But overall it's a great movie that you'll enjoy whether you've read the books or not!

This is a movie about people living in faction groups. When a child comes of age, he or she is tested and "shown" their true inner self. They are allowed to switch factions or groups within the society. However certain individuals are "divergent" and the testing doesn't work. Society fears these individuals. Hence the basis of the movie. Great action and drama. Be prepared for a series though.

This movie was an unexpected treat. My wife wanted to see it, but never made it to the theater, so I purchased it on a pre-order. The plot was very good, the acting also very good. It keep you guessing and sitting on the edge of your seat. I wish I had seen it at the Big screen, but the scenery and sound on my hdtv was fantastic. So glad I bought it.

Not one that got a lot of media fanfare like The Hunger Games but just as good. I honestly didn't read the books until after watching this and I kind of regret it. The movies, as usual, stray from the books but they do a good job of consolidating important points into a scene. Now to wait for the last movie in this four part trilogy.

Much like any movie made from a book there are key elements left out, however, Divergent did capture the personality of the characters and the environment they live in without dragging the story out or slowing it down. There are some specifics in the book that I felt were necessary for the remainder of the story that did not appear in the movie, so it will be interesting how they compensate.

This movie was a lot better than i expected it to be. A lot of good action and the utopian dystopian future was cool to see. The steelbook is very nice looking and for the same price as the normal case this was a better buy. The back of the steelbook is great, as it has all the factions on the back. It also comes with stickers, if your into that.

This was definitely an amazing movie that anyone should see because of its well developed story mixed with action/adventure scenes that add major excitement. It's one to watch over and over again so it's a sure movie to buy and of course worth buying to own as a blue ray DVD to ensure the high def experience during all of the action sequences.

Took my daughter to this in theater when a friend backed out. Really enjoyed it, knowing little about the premise, and nothing about the series. Surprised that it is Young Adult lit. I'm told movie sticks to the 1st book, except ending. Blu-ray version excellent; daughter gets the digital copy to take to college. Waiting for next installment.

This movie was great! I think it followed the book pretty well too. That's hard to say for most movies based on books. You don't have to read the book to understand what's going on either. If you like action movies, then you will love this. I also suggest this for anyone who liked The Hunger Games. It has a similar underlying premise.

This is a great movie and the first in a franchise of good movies. If you haven't watched it yet, you definitely should! Once you have finished the first one, at least you don't have to wait until the next comes out in theaters. You will be ready to run out and get the second and then the third in this franchise!

It was a good movie because it was good but it didn't have Uriah in it which made me sad. It also didn't have dauntless cake or the butter knife scene like, what's up with that? But Veronica was in it so that was cool and my friend cries every time she sees the zip lining scene cuz it reminds her of Allegiant and that just ain't okay. So. Good day to you. Out of all of the dystopian books and movies floating around today, The Divergent Series is my second favorite (The Giver Quartet is my first). The characters aren't cast exactly according to descriptions in the books, but they've done an amazing job matching stars with roles. The story is adapted to the screen very well.

This movie is a very interesting take on an alternate reality. The down side is the movie moves fairly quickly on the plot setup and can be easily missed if you haven't read the books. Majority of the actors are unknown teenagers that do a decent job of playing the roles of a story from a book. Otherwise I cant wait to see the sequel!

If you loved the film (and even if you did not) you will love the Bluray. The film looks beautiful on Bluray. I read the books and felt the film adequately captures the first book's essence. Some liberties were taken but they work to the film's advantage. I was hoping to explore the Divergent world a bit, but the extras were just okay. Overall I highly recommend it.
