Customers are positive about the Mavic 3 Fly More Combo Drone's camera quality, battery life, ease of use, flight time, obstacle avoidance, and range, with many praising the image quality and extended flight duration. However, customers are negative about the drone's high price point and limited internal storage, expressing concerns about the value proposition given the cost. Some users also mentioned challenges with GPS lock-in times. Overall, the positive feedback on the core functionalities outweighs the negative comments regarding price and storage.

Drone Newbie…NO BUYERS REMORSE!

I’ve never owned or even flown a drone before…and I debated whether or not to purchase a much cheaper model before investing in the Mavic 3…but I wanted it for photos and videos-so I decided that would be wasting $ I could put towards the real deal. After unboxing I downloaded the apps and walked through the tutorials. I was a little concerned about my ability to control it since I was never able to master any of the Nintendo or other multi hand game controllers- but for some reason I was able to figure this out fairly quickly. After completing my FAA registration and my knowledge quiz i took it out for my maiden flight. Now all I want to do is fly!! Im not your typical drone pilot…a 51 year old mother of 2 grown daughters…but I might be the most enthusiastic. I dont leave my house without it. Ever. I seriously love it. I’m now exploring opportunities in which I can eventually make a decent supplemental income with it! Now if only Mother Nature would cooperate…

This is an amazing drone! If you are looking for amazing picture and video quality, you will not be disappointed. The drone is much more powerful that my last (DJI Mini 2). In wind, this drone is still able to cut through ~30MPH wind relatively easy provided you move it to sport mode. Other videos online show up to 60 MPH but I am not that adventurous. The battery life is amazing and will keep you flying for a long time. I highly recommend this drone!

I recently bought DJI Mavic 3 Fly More Combo drone with Remote Control for taking videos of my work from Best Buy online shopping. I really like it as it can take very good 5K videos and fly steadily, easy to control. You can register with FAA and enjoy your Recreational activities.

I have owned just about every drone made since 2009, the Mavic three is probably the best professional/consumer drone for photography and videography that I’ve ever used. And that’s a very bold statement coming from myself who strives for a professional looking footage. The CMOS Hasselblad camera is about the most versatile camera attached to a drone that I think you can purchase today. The best part is that entry level pilots all the way up to professional pilots can easily operate this UAS. And I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get into professional photography and videography or for their own personal archives

Excellent battery life, 360 degree collision avoidance, excellent video and pictures. I've had the Mavic Air 2, DJI FPV drone, and the Autel Evo 2 pro. The Mavic 3 wins. I've ordered the rc pro controller too because I really dislike using a phone and struggling to see the screen. With the RC pro and Mavic 3, I will be off to a new world of discovery and creativity.

The Mavic 2 was a absolute generational leap in features and performance …
This however is just a leap in price and only a few new features
Pros:
- Better battery life
- More frame rates and 5K recording
- Nice bag and gimbal cover
- USB C charging is godsend
- Steadier in the wind
-
Cons:
- Zoom camera is very poor quality
- For 3,000 you get the same cheap controller from the Mavic mini
- Takes 5 mins to connect to the statelitte which defeats the new battery life
- Active track pretty much is just as bad as it always was
- Would have appreciated a MP bump for photos
- More internal storage (128gb) would have been nice
Overall it is an improvement but for such a steep price bump and a lot of the features aren’t ready yet It is way overpriced
Although I do this professionally I can justify it but for most I would get A DJI Air2S instead for a fraction of the cost

New Mandatory Requirement - For any person wishing to fly an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), you now (as of June 2021) need to complete training and take a quiz to receive a certificate and be able to produce the certificate upon request from an enforcement authority. While it is called The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST), it is required for all drone pilots even if you have your Part 107 Drone License.
Since I am only flying this drone recreationally, I took the TRUST training and quiz late one evening. If you plan to make money with the drone, you must get your Part 107 Drone License in addition to the TRUST certificate. The TRUST training, quiz and certificate are free, so there really isn't any good reason to skip it. The training is done in 4 parts with quiz questions at the end of each part. There are a total of 23 questions, I believe you can attempt each question as many times as you need to get it right and at the end you are presented with your certificate so you can print it out and keep it in your drone bag.
I took the training and quiz from uavcoach.com. These are lifetime certificates so they don't need to be renewed.
Next, since the Mavic 3 weighs greater than 0.55 lbs., you must register it with the FAA, print your registration card and mark your drone with your registration number. It can be as cheap as $5 from the FAA DroneZone for a Recreational Flyer registration (faadronezone.faa.gov).
Note: I used a label maker to print my registration number to affix to the Mavic 3. However, the texture of the Mavic 3 body has a slight stippling to the point where the label would not adhere. I had to use transparent tape to hold the label in place.
Now onto the Mavic 3 review.
Package Contents:
With the Mavic 3 Fly More Combination package, you get a 3 in 1 convertible bag that comfortably holds all the included accessories. The convertible bag is quite impressive. It seems very durable with heavy stitching at all the logical strain points, and has metal clasps. It has numerous pockets and several of them have a soft liner. But most impressive is that it is convertible to three styles. The default is a hand bag with a nice durable hand strap. Unzipping both sides of the back pocket you get access to the two sides of the single shoulder strap with a nice clasp to hold them together. But if you undo the main clasps and open the top flap it has a large zippered compartment that contains two shoulder straps making it a backpack with a large added compartment.
Included with the Mavic 3 Fly More combination over and above the standard version is the aforementioned bag, a total of 12 propellors. 2 extra batteries, a charging dock with space for all 3 batteries and a 4 pack of Neutral Density Filters.
The Cine Premium Combo improves on the Fly More Combo with an upgraded remote with built in screen, an additional USB-C to USB-C cable, and a second pack of Neutral Density Filters. However, inside the Mavic 3, the Cine Premium upgrades the internal storage from 8 GB to 1 TB and provides you with Apple ProRes video compression.
App:
For any new DJI owners, the DJI Fly App does not appear in the Google Play Store, you can search for it in your browser and download it from DJI. But you'll need to go in to your device settings and allow the install from 3rd Party locations.
After everything was charged up (drone batteries arrive with no charge), I established the pairing of the remote to the drone with the DJI Fly App and the firmware update was waiting for me.
Flight:
After the latest firmware was done, I was itching to get out and fly this beast of a drone. I have a phone with a thick case on it. I had to remove the case in order to get it to sit in the remote properly. Make sure to use the right cable adapter to connect your phone.
Flying the Mavic 3 is a breeze. Control response is immediate. The Mavic 3 is rock steady, video transmission was also stable. The Gimbal easily compensates for momentum shifts from sudden direction changes.
The propellors are rubber tipped. I've come to learn this is to reduce propellor noise.
In sport mode, the Mavic 3 is speedy. It gets just above 40 mph. However, sport mode does disable obstacle avoidance, so it is best to keep that mode for open skies.
Obstacle Avoidance:
One of the major improvements in the Mavic 3 is the additional obstacle avoidance sensors. The additional sensors help the Mavic 3 get a clearer understanding of its surroundings. But keep in mind, these sensors require good ambient lighting to work. If there isn't enough light the DJI Fly App will indicate as such and the obstacle avoidance feature will not work.
By default, the Mavic 3 is set to brake when it gets near an obstacle, a quick change in the settings to avoid obstacles made me a little nervous at first. As I steered my brand-new, pricey Mavic 3 towards a tree, it steered itself around the tree with seeming ease. After a few more times, I started to breathe a little easier. In some situations it would fly over the tops of the trees. In some cases it would hesitate to make a decision. That's when I would back off a little and approach with a different angle and the Mavic 3 figured out how to get around the obstacle. While the Mavic 3 utilizes its obstacle avoidance sensors well. I believe it's also using the main camera to analyze its path. If it can see a sufficient opening with the main camera, it will take it, otherwise it will hesitate.
I live in a suburban area and I happened to see a plane ascending several miles away. The App warned me of this and I thought it was nice.
Battery Life:
Under ideal conditions, each battery is reported to deliver 46 minutes of flight. This is a welcome change to the first generation that gave you only 10 minutes. 46 minutes gives you ample time to get out to your shooting location, scout and plan your shot, make the shot and return safely.
Remote battery life seems plentiful. I've gone through two drone batteries and the remote is still going strong.
Camera Performance:
The most anticipated feature of the Mavic 3 has been the main Hasselblad camera. It does not disappoint. Without changing any color settings or using any of the included filters, the camera offers stunning pictures and video with up to 5K and depending on the resolution, up to 200 frames/second. I'm attaching a few scaled down photos from my local park, nearby golf course and neighborhood after the peak Fall color change. Optically, the camera offers up to 7x zoom. Digital zoom goes up to 28x.
Of course just about any camera does well with sufficient light. The 4/3 sensor really impressed me with its color balance while I was flying past sunset. While I was getting great video of the darkening night sky with the moon just peeking through the clouds and city lights off in the distance. I was really impressed when I panned down and the White Balanced kicked in and brightened up the forest canopy. Unfortunately, I forgot to snap a picture of this and stills from video don't give as much pop.
Negatives:
Even with all these positive aspects, I still found 3 negative points on the Mavic 3.
The first is the most disappointing, at the time of its release the Mavic 3 has major features missing.
ActiveTrack, the ability to follow a selected subject in a variety of ways
QuickShots, the ability to shoot cinematic style video while executing pre-programmed motion paths
MasterShots, like QuickShots, but combines 10 maneuvers in sequence
Panorama Mode, the ability to stitch several individual pictures together
QuickTransfer, transfer materials from the drone to your mobile device without connecting it with the Remote Control
These missing features are promised in the January 2022 firmware update. I'm sure the update also improves on the Obstacle Avoidance as well. But, I was very disappointed to learn these features weren't included at launch. They're not even mentioned in the 1.0 release of the Owner's Manual. It just seems like DJI was willing to ship out an incomplete product just to get holiday sales.
The second is the performance of the DJI Assistant Desktop App. The DJI Assistant Desktop App allows you to plug in the Mavic 3 to your computer using the USB-A to USB-C cable in order to apply firmware updates (if you don't want to do it with your mobile device), make settings changes, and transfer media. However, when I went to transfer media, it failed. This could be because I have Windows 10 with folder protection on, but once I set the folder permissions up, it should have downloaded but didn't.
The third is related to the second. Since I couldn't transfer media using the DJI Assistant, I mounted the microSD card through the connected Mavic 3 and was able to transfer the files needed. While the Mavic 3 is charging through my USB port, I'm not sure if it's charging fast enough to keep up with the discharge rate of having the Mavic 3 on, with its internal fans running and the lighting still flashing. Therefore I occasionally pull the memory card. But the microSD card is inserted upside down with the lip of the card just millimeters away from an overhang so I can't my fingernail in to get a hold of the card to remove it. I have to use tweezers to pull out the card.
While the DJI Mavic 3 is truly impressive with its easy, stable yet powerful flight characteristics, long battery life, stunning camera performance, the disappointment of the missing features, performance of the DJI Assistant Desktop App, and the design and location of the micro-SD slot combined to take off one star. Even shipping out a basic level of the missing features would have been enough to earn a stellar rating, but missing features really brings focus on an incomplete release. The Fly More combination with the extra batteries, and the convertible bag is highly recommended.

I have been waiting for this drone for years. I actually sold my P4P and MA2 to finance the purchase lol. Seriously tho. It was totally worth it. I regret nothing. My only complaint is I dont have nearly enough time to fly as I would like to have. There is no question if this drone is awesome or not. The only question is: Can you justify spending the money on this drone if you are not a professional photographer? The Air2S is also an incredible drone.
Oh, BTW, the fly more combo is totally worth it. The bag alone is awesome, doubles as a backpack!
