Great Drone... BUT not the best value IMO

I have been flying drones for quite a while now and have extensively flown DJI drones like the Phantom 3 series, Mavic, Phantom 4 series, as well as drones from 3DR, Autel, and Yuneek.
This little spark flies just as well as any of those. It has an actual battery life of 13.5 minutes (averaged after 15 flights) which is longer than the other drones in this category by a long shot. Gesture control actually works about 90% of the time, but its not that practical and kind of gimmicky. The idea is to leave your phone in your pocket, but most people would probably want to see their shot before they take it..
The quick shots are cool and work well, it would be cool to see these implemented on other DJI Drones.
Here's the thing. For your $500 you get just the drone and a battery and a charger. You use your phone to control it. This limits your range to 325 feet horizontal 150 feet vertical and speed to 4mph. To fix this, you buy the controller. Add 150 for that by itself, or 200 more for the fly more to get the controller, 2 batteries, a quick charger and a bag. Now your at $700. if your a first timer and not concerned on the size, 500-600 will get you a used Phantom 3 Pro with probably some extras. 4k camera, 3 way gimbal, 18-20 minute battery, 3+ mile range, and more. $800 gets you a used Mavic, 4k cam, 4+ mile range, folds up, 25 min battery, etc.
IF the controller was included with the base bundle i could recommend this. But with the extreme limitations, and the cost to make up for those quickly gobbles up any value.
If you like the small size, dont mind the limitations of the camera/gimbal (only 1080p 30 fps 2 way gimbal) and dont mind the limitations w/o the controller, or even with one.. this IS a solid drone and IS fun to fly, but not the best value IMO.

Fun but lacks the ability to turn off most if the smart/dumb features. When you are a drone pilot with over 1500 hrs of manual flight this is fun but useless for projects.I would recommend this to someone just starting out and is unsure of what they can fly.

So got this with the controller, really a nice copter, has a little over a mile range, video quality looks great. The gesture and follow mode work very well, only has about 15 min flight time.

Firmware needs to be updated before first flight and need to charge full battery. Controller not included so you need DJI app to use it. Flight and picture is great but due to low flight time you need to be too cautious which items you need to shoot if you do not have additional battery pack.<15 mins

Very compact but don’t lose a hole lot of quality, images a clear during the day, video isn’t greatest at 1080p It is on par or better then most newer model phone cameras, like iPhone X or note 8 in the photo department. Only thing I can complain about is you can’t shoot in RAW like every other DJI product

Great little drone. High quality video. Has great safety features to keep you from crashing it & losing it. Powerful motors work well. Controller is definitely a plus in range and control but phone works well and responsive. 12-15 minutes flight time. For the price, size and options it can’t be beat!

I've had several other drones, but this is my first DJI drone and I have to say i'm impressed. The capabilities of this little drone are amazing. You can fly it without any sort of remote using gesture control, you can use your cell phone to fly it, or if you really want to unlock its potential get the joystick controller. The built-in safety features are incredible. I was foolishly flying it within 50' of an electrical distribution plant and I lost control of the drone. It went into fail safe mode, avoided several obstacles and landed safely on its own. The phone app told me I needed to calibrate the compass and once the calibration was complete it told me that I was too close to an electromagnetic field. My confidence in the product grows every time I fly the little bugger. Love it!

easy to use, stable, great image quality. Main issue is the battery life which is only 10-12 min. The image is very stable even in winds of over 20mph, so gimbal does a great job in stabilizing the drone.

OK Drone But For Poor Battery Life & Mid·dling App

First things first, if you buy this drone, get at least these accessories right away: spare battery, battery charger, remote, microSD card and a USB cable to connect remote to phone/tablet.
Secondly, throw away the useless and misleading manuals that come with the drone and remote. Instead, watch the tutorial videos and read the flight tutorials and user manuals in the app (click the 3 horizontal lines at top right of the main page, then select Academy).
Here's my opinion of the Spark:
Pros: useful app (when it works). The flight record is a nice feature which lets you review previous flights, including stick action. It has some really nifty quick shot features built into it that allow for automatic video recording on pre-programmed paths. The built-in editor is okay for basic videos. The Spark has a great camera that takes some amazingly stable video. It also has a sport mode which removes all speed inhibitors (as well as obstacle avoidance) and makes for some really fun flights. Other features that make this a very powerful entry-level drone: return-to-home, gesture mode, active track (kinda-sorta "follow me"),
Cons: very poor battery life -- they claim up to 16 minutes of fly time, but I've only been able to get 11 max, and that includes the time it took to return to home because of low battery level. The user manual that comes with the drone and the remote are terrible and I wasted hours trying to decipher them in order to get everything connected for my first flight. It sure would have been nice for the app to direct you to the tutorials right on the first startup instead of having to dig for them. The app itself is a bit overwhelming; kind of information overload. It should offer a learning mode for low-level, low-speed flights, without all the popup alerts, warnings and information, to simply get a feel for how the drone flies. The app loses GPS and, more frightening, RF signal too frequently. It also loses the WiFi signal, which is why using a short USB cable to connect the remote with your phone/tablet is a better bet. Finally, the video recording can be spotty; all to often I get videos at 0Mb, meaning they were corrupted. Count on a good microSD card inserted into the drone for your footage.
All-in-all, this is a fun drone with some powerful features, that would benefit from a better battery and an improved app.

I am an amateur photographer and was looking for something to get my feet wet in aerial photography. The Spark has exceeded my expectations with great daylight shots and good lowlight shots. The video is extremely stable with great 1080p footage.

I was skeptical about this bottom of the barrel drone provided by DJI but wow I have been amazed at all the technology packed into this thing! The gesture mode is cool and it tracks you and follows you. Highly recommend buying the remote because your range is extended 10x! Ive flown this thing 1200ft in the air and it takes great panoramic sphere images. It only takes 1080p video which is great for hobby use I just wish it would do it at 60hz for smoother video. But I have been blown away by this little guy. Highly recommend.

Had a very cheap off-brand drone before this; also a DJI Phantom which I ended up crashing in an ill-advised flight near high rises at the beach... The Spark is very easy to use and loads of fun to fly. I am amazed at the precise control the Spark allows and how FAST it is when in sport mode. Would HIGHLY recommend this to users of many ages - main advice would be to start slowly, keep on training mode for a while and maybe have a friend show you some tips if possible. Would buy this again for sure!

For a $350 drone, you can't really beat the functionality and the price. This little drone has many of the same features as more expensive drones, and the camera footage is exceptional as well. Being able to fly with gestures, your phone or the separate remote controller is a nice option. I would recommend getting additional batteries though, as you'll want to keep flying after the first one runs out. The Fly More combo might be the better buy, but the Spark alone is still a great aircraft.

Unbeatable performance for the price. Got the Spark fly note bundle for a net of 550. For the most part I don’t need to use the Mavic much anymore. It’s so small and simple and the performance speaks for itself.

Having owned a DJI Phantom for many years, I was intrigued to see such a powerful unit in such a small package. The Spark is quite easy to use even for a beginner. Using the DJI app it allows you to totally control the spark although I would highly recommend getting the fly more package with the extra battery and remote control. It even allows limited control via hand gestures. The camera takes very good HD video (no 4k). Using the remote it really opens this little drone up. I have flown it way out of visual range and still maintained complete control. If you are looking for an easy to use portable drone I highly recommend this one. Do note that flight time is about 12 to 14 mins per charge, so I recommend getting a few batteries.

After 6 months of flying, I can definitively say that I LOVE this drone! Great resolution on the camera. Great value for the price. Intuitive to fly. Great for capturing farm photos through the seasons. Flew it on a 4 degree Fahrenheit day with no issues, also flew it in a light snowfall over my property with no issues (although you probably aren’t supposed to do that)! Issues I have had: At first, it would not sync with the controller and the DJI app. After trying over and over for a few hours, it finally synced. Very frustrating. I just wanted to fly the darned thing! Sometimes there is a lag on the video, which is unfortunate. One time, the drone controls stopped working all of the sudden and the drone just started going off on its own random direction, without me even touching the controls. After a couple of minutes, the controls mysteriously started working again. The DJI app would not work with an old Samsung smartphone- the screen kept freezing, but works well with a newer iPad. Over time, the battery life/ flight time seems to slowly decrease. The return-home feature works great UNLESS you are flying below trees in the woods, and the auto-return-home feature kicks on, and your drone flies upwards so quickly before you can hit ‘cancel return home’, and your drone flies itself into a tree (this happened once, not too high off the ground, so nothing broke). This happened because the distance sensors that tell the drone it is too close to an object turn off automatically when the drone is in ‘return home’ mode. Also, they say you can launch it from your hand and have it land in your hand, but I’d be seriously afraid of losing a finger! Those rotors are powerful! Overall, this is a great drone for the money! Buy it, already!

Great for a first drone and even better with a controller. Even if you have others this one is unique with its size and hand gesture capibilities. Well built as are all the DJI products.
