Great Episodes, So-So Features

I had already seen these episodes on BBC America, so I already knew what I was getting with those, but I was disappointed with the features and play functions.
The episodes have a "play all" option, but not the option to select individual episodes. If you want to watch, say, the third episode on the disc, you have to press "play all," then repeatedly press "scene selection" until you get where you want to be. On the other hand, the "Closer Looks" shorts in the extras has an individual option, but not "play all."
The episode listing is incorrect on discs two and three. While there are three episodes on disc two, the label lists four. The fourth episode is actually on disc three, which only lists two episodes.
While I recommend this set overall, it is a step down from the usual Doctor Who releases.

Loved the show, but a little disappointed in the extras for this release of the twelfth series. The classic series blurays are always packed with so much extra stuff, and even the past blu ray releases of the new Doctor Who show have had more than this set!
This Bluray collection only has commentaries on 3 episodes (the Spyfall two parter & the Nikola Tesla episode), the mini 'Closer Look' behind the scenes documentaries, and a pretty short 'What To Expect In Series 12' overview.

The Story:
The second season with Jodie Whittaker as the iconic Doctor is here and it's a fairly mixed bag. There are more historical episodes than space episodes which I find more enjoyable during the Chibnall era. The season begins with a big "what?! how?!" and classically doesn't talk about it at all until the finale where you go "what?! Why?!" There are definitely some really strong episodes in this season making it an improvement over Whittaker's debut, but sadly the faults I've found with this new era are still ablaze, specifically with the main characters having little characterization or arcs to speak of.
The Special Features:
Not as glamorous as previous sets. Expect a commentary or two, and some actors talking about the episodes in a "I'm sure you can't wait to watch this" kind of way.
The Nitpicks:
- I ordered online and found it damaged. Small, cosmetic, nothing important broken, but still a surprise since the package it came in was intact and looked good.
- It does not have episode selection. You can either "play all" or choose scene selection where you pick an episode and then the first scene if you don't want to go through all of them.
- Episode 8 "The Haunting of villa Diodati" is printed/listed on disc 2 when it is actually on disc 3.
Overall, there's some good, there's a lot of average, and there's some bad with a controversial season finale. I'd say there's enough good in this season to warrant a pickup, just don't expect much.

Big Improvement Over Series 11

Even if you didn't enjoy series 11 (which I thought could have been better ), series 12 was still a clear improvement in writing, storytelling, and overall production value. Whittaker's Doctor was given a proper character arc this series, and she more than rose to the occasion acting-wise. The stories were exciting and the guest actors were all great. Sacha Dhawan, in particular, impressed as the new incarnation of The Master.

The set is fine, another superior Viisual and audio feast from the latest Doctor. One interesting decision was made by the manufacturer. Previous Who sets would include the most recent holiday special. This one didn’t do that for some reason. You would need to buy Resolution in its individual release.

Whovians have long thought that only 12 regenerations were possible. Yet here we are into the second season with the 13th Doctor. With interconnected episodes touching on the Master, the Judoon, and Cybermen, we are provided further insights into the origins of Doctor Who.

Just like other Doctor Who fans, I wondered if a female doctor would be as good. Jodie Whittaker is terrific in the role. She's a wonderful actor... very interesting to watch! The very diverse supporting cast is also top notch! This is easy going and relaxing sci-fi to watch.

This season, the second season with Jodie Whitaker as the Doctor, was excellent. Every story flowed well and the story arc with the return of the Master was excellent. I watched it when it aired on BBCAmerica and look forward to watching it again.Really enjoyed this season.

The characters are better, the stories are stronger and of course the Doctor is finding her bearings. Between the Master and the cybermen, the story have become very intriguing. Even the rhino peacekeepers are more interesting. The effects are top notch.

Solid season. The Master is back as evil as ever. Judoon police the Earth. Cybermen appear with various twists to the stories. And as if we all did not know the Doctor is special, this season shows she is even more special than we thought.

Doctor Who is a fantastic show. It's had a lot of different actors and directors over the 40+ years. This latest season probably has something for a Who fan.
Best Buy had great pricing and they shipped it to me fast.

Don't let the naysayers fool you. Jodi is great as The Doctor. Yes, some of the stories might be a bit week, but her portrayal is perfect. Bradley Walsh steals every scene he is in as the companion Graham.

The blu-ray is great. This is a great season.
However, on some ads (not Best Buy), the set was advertised to have the New Year's Special "Resolution" included. It is not. The discs are also named incorrectly

Doctor Who has been on for years and it keeps getting better. Although this year wasn’t its strongest, it did have some pleasant surprises. Good fun watch and a good piece for any time lords collection.
