Previously thought lost, tapes for these episodes were found in 2013 in Nigeria. Now, those of us too young to have seen these episodes when they first aired can add to our collections with something that is a surprising part of history.
The episodes themselves are, of course, typical of BBC television visual "quality" of the day (that is to say, not great) but, considering that the DVD is based on a remastering from decades-old, forgotten magnetic tapes, the picture quality is astounding. You'd never know that this was anything other than a standard copied-from-the-London-archives video.
The acting and props are at about the standard you'd expect. The pleasure in this particular DVD is that you're viewing something that all had thought lost since at least the 1970's.

I can honestly say that Patrick Troughton is a very good actor. After watching this episode in serial format I wanted him to return to the Doctor. I love to visit past Doctor Who 's and to see Jaime and his friend from the Scottish Highlands. Excellent story that has a twist to our current year of December 31. 2018.

This adventure introduces a classic enemy, sometimes ally, of the Doctor. He has some great scenes, feigning to be buffoon when he knows he is the smartest man in the room. The animation on the missing episodes is very nice and stylish, adding to the mystery and tension of the story. If you love Doctor Who, you will love The Ice Warriors.

This 1967 story was missing from the BBC archives for over twenty years until four of the six episodes were found in 1988. With episodes 2 & 3 recreated using animation matched to the original soundtrack, this story can now be enjoyed in its entirety for the first time in over 40 years!

Absolutely loved this found story from the 2nd Doctor's era. Patrick Troughton's dual acting as the Doctor and Salamander show what a great talent he was. Especially in the scenes where both characters interact and he has to use different accents. I am eager for more "lost" stories from this era to be found.

I'm very happy to have The Enemy of the World on DVD. This is one of those "Lost/Incomplete" Stories. It has been reconstructed to my satisfaction. I do wish there was some special features.

An armored alien freed from a glacier reeks havoc on a scientific site until the Dr. can save the day. Episodes 2 & 3 are missing and are recreated with animation. It works really well, though.

It was so awesome to be able to see this once lost Troughton story! It's a little different than the average Who tale, which makes it all the more better!

Another good adventure with the Second Doctor.
The animation of the restored episodes could be better, but other than that the cinematography was good.

I don't normally like "evil twin" stories, but this works because of a great script by David Whitaker and a superb performance by Patrick Troughton. A lot of fun.

One Of The Best Classic Doctor Who Serials

If you are a fan of the current Doctor Who with Matt Smith I think you would enjoy this. The Cybermen that this version of The Doctor encounters aren't as advanced as they are in the new episodes, but that's to be expected since this came out so long ago. However, Patrick Troughton who plays this version of The Doctor does remind me a lot of Matt Smith, and like the Matt Smith episodes of Doctor Who this is a great adventure story.
If you are a fan of adventures and archeology movies I think you would really enjoy this. The special features on this DVD even talk about how one of the writers of this serial was a big fan of archeology and the effect that had on this story.
The special features are good and given how much you get its easy to see why this is a two disc DVD set. However, I don't think I'd be going back to this DVD just to rewatch the special features. For the story itself though this DVD is absolutely worth watching.
Before I end this review I would like to make a note about the video quality. Tomb Of The Cybermen was made with both film and video. There are times such as when characters are outside that it will look like you're watching a movie, but most of the time it will look like what you're watching will have a video look to it. That's exactly how it is supposed to look, so don't get alarmed. There is even a special feature that explains how they used a process to restore the image to its video form. I personally prefer when the video looks like film, but rest assured that this is how Tomb Of The Cybermen is supposed to look.
This is definitely in the top 5 of my favorite classic Doctor Who serials. Fans of the classic Doctor Who need to have this in their collection. Fans of the new Doctor Who that want to explore The Doctor's roots should definitely give this a look, as I think its the perfect middle ground between old and new Doctor Who. I highly recommend this special edition of Tomb Of The Cybermen.
