I'm a classic gamer at heart and I grew up playing the OG DKC games and I'm only about 4 levels in to this game and I love it. Level design immerses you, new game play with the different Kongs is fun and the music is awesome. My ONLY gripe is that the control is not as tight as with the SNES DKC games.

Going back to the original Donkey Kong Country on SNES, this series for me has consistently been the best platforming experience, with fun, challenging, original levels. I never got around to playing the original release of Tropical Freeze, so I'm glad I could finally pick this up (although it is a bit annoying to pay full price for a re-release). It's exactly what I expected in the best way possible - more challenging, incredibly fun platforming. Highly recommend for long-time fans of the series as well as those who have never experienced DKC.

It may be a little pricey for some, I definitely recommend it when it gets down to the $40.00 range, because it is a little on the short side. Incredibly solid platforming. The levels are very well thought out. The characters and music and themes are fun and make me smile.

If you haven't played this yet on the Wii U, then this game is absolutely worth your time. If you love 2D platformers like I do, then this is a must play. Retro Studios did an amazing job of level design on this game, with everything in the environment having a justification for being there. There are no floating platforms in this game that don't have a reason for being there. Additionally, the soundtrack is wonderful, made by infamous composer David Wise. It's also very challenging in its original mode and as such, its extremely rewarding when you overcome a hard moment. For those looking for a bit of an easier time, they do have the new Funky Mode option to smooth out the difficulty. I would suggest, however, playing the original mode first since that's how this game was intended to be played. Get this game!

Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is truly one of the best modern platformers out there. Though it may not feel exactly like the Donkey Kong Country series that we grew up with during the SNES era, it still has the quality Nintendo charm and it's another great game made by Retro Studios. This sequel to DKC Returns on the Wii not only includes excellently designed levels, but it also allows you to play Dixie Kong and the formerly unplayable characters in the series Cranky and Funky Kong. If you have never played this game and love platformers, get this game! If you've already owned this game on the Wii U, there's not much to offer that justifies the $60 price tag unless you really love this game and you MUST have it on the go.

Really love this game. Excellent design and polish throughout. The graphics, level design, and music are top notch. Offers an enjoyable challenge for experienced players and a variety of aides otherwise.

DKC Tropical Freeze is a fantastic update to the original DKC series from Retro Studios. Everything from the level design to the graphics will make you feel like a kid again. The sound design is amazing and the music really keeps you going with the fast pace. The difficulty can be a little unforgiving at times but that's how I like my games. There is a simple difficulty that can be selected for younger players and scrubs. The two player co-op is the best part as you and a friend can control a character at the same time unlike the original 3 DKC games. Highly recommended.

Excellent side scroller with great level design and phenomenal music

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is, without a doubt, one of the finest 2D platformers available on an eighth generation console, and arguably the greatest available on the Nintendo Switch. While Tropical Freeze certainly held its own on the Wii U, the Switch port served to enhance an already wonderful experience. With enhanced graphics and more crisp, robust sound, Donkey Kong Country has never looked any better. After the incredible success of Donkey Kong Country Returns, Retro Studios has done it again, taking the series back to its roots and making it even greater. Tropical Freeze's controls are super-tight and it's characters move with unparalleled fluidity, creating a truly astounding platforming experience. The fantastic level designs put forth by Retro Studios never fail to impress, creating unique and memorable stages unseen since Donkey Kong Country's early days. To top off this beautifully crafted retro experience, the soundtrack of David Wise is a delight to the ears, evoking Wise's earlier works on the Donkey Kong Country titles for the Super Nintendo and creating a sublime, tropical ambiance that suits the game perfectly.

This is a fantastic platformer game. The levels are beautifully designed. The music is fantastic. The only drawback to the original was it could be pretty difficult. Well Funky Kong was added to make the game accessible to anyone. Funky Kong doesn't make the game a complete walk in the park, but his extra abilities takes the high difficulty of the original Wii U game, down to a more manageable level.

This game is a total blast. Is super fun to play. The graphics are beautiful. The music is incredible. Everyworld is beautifully detailed. For those who played the DK series in suoer nintendo this game brings so many memories. I would highly recomend this game.

The production value put into Donky Kong Country Tropical Freeze is abundantly clear from the get go. No wonder Nintendo couldn't let it fall to the wayside with the Wii U and ported it to the Switch. A colorful and bright platformer, DKCTF let's you play up to five different characters with a friend. However, this platformer is tough as nails and didn't resonate with me like those of my youth. The steep price and the fact that I've grown apart from the platform genre kept me from rating this title higher. If you see it on sale for $25 or less, pick it up. Its a frustratingly good game.

If you missed this on the Wii U, GET IT. It is super fun, addicting, gorgeous, the music is phenomenal, and it ramps up the difficulty nicely. Temple levels are (as always) MADDENING, but still fun. If you love platformers, rich visuals, colorful graphics, and any of the previous Donkey Kong Country installments, this is a no brainer. BUY IT!!

The graphics are good. Very colorful, music is good and overall fun to play. However, it is a little bit on the difficult side and can get frustrating for your younger children. In two player mode you both cannot be the same character which makes it a little less fun.

I have to admit, I am not a big fan of Donkey Kong games, and yet now I can finally appreciate them a lot better than I could before. Yes, these games are HARD, but they feel so rewarding, it balances out the feeling of a frustrating difficulty, especially concerning later levels. Even better, playing on Funky Mode gives you, the player, a much needed breath of air, as it makes things so much easier. Despite that, I decided to play normal mode of this title, so I can fully enjoy it as it was intended to be enjoyed, and I am not disappointed. That said, I recommend getting this game when it's on sale, as the only upgrade this game had was getting the Funky mode, and 1080 support. Graphics and framerate (to my understanding) were left just as it was on WiiU. The music is GOLD though.

Playing DKCTF on the Switch was my first experience with the game. I was blown away with the graphics, the controls, the music, the backgrounds. Everything. Its the complete package. Its as easy as you want it to be, and as devastatingly hard as you want it to be. A must own!

An all around amazing game. The graphics, music, and game play are all outstanding. The original Wii U version, was very difficult in the latter levels. The Switch version adds a Funky Kong mode that makes the game easier and more accessible.

This is one of the best Donkey Kong games in the series. There are so many levels, the music is great and the graphics are great. The new Funky King mode is cool, but basically easy mode for those that are having trouble. The $60 price tag us ridiculous though. For $60 the previous games in the series "Donkey Kong Country Returns" from the Wii and 3DS should've been included. A great game for any Nintendo fan.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is one of the best 2D platformers of all time. It belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of the genre along with your finest Marios and Sonics. Seriously, it's that good. The brilliant music by David Wise alone warrants a purchase for the game. Combine that with some of the most clever level design and beautiful graphics you will find on the Switch, and you have an all time classic. The gameplay is challenging but utterly satisfying to a pitch-perfect degree. I love Mario, but this game stomps all over New Super Mario Bros. U. It's a treasure.

Beautiful graphics and music with a really fun storyline. The controls are as tight as ever and this game has some of the best level design I’ve ever seen in a scroller! Must buy for the switch if you like any of the dk franchise!
