From Bioware, makers of the Mass Effect series and classic games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, this medieval fantasy RPG will appeal to old-school RPG fans, as well as bring in new blood. The storyline is deep and keeps pace well, with plenty of action in the combat and comedy in the character interaction. The music is great, and really melds with the overall feel of the game. The cutscenes are epic and highly detailed, with great voice acting as well. The game comes with a graphical bug or two, but nothing game threatening. I highly suggest picking this one up.

Definitely different than the first one, and with much better graphics. Has the option of importing choices you made in the first one to influence characters. Story incorporates several people/themes from the first Dragon Age (quanari, Flemeth, Zevran and Oghren reappear) with mentions of King Alistair), but with a different twist and more politicized quests. A decent number of different cities/areas with a new twist of visiting during the day or night. This is a different game than DA1, so it takes a little getting used to before you're really 'involved' in the storyline. They improved on a lot of things, including skill/talent menus, and your character can speak now. All in all, I liked it, and was glad I bought it.

The first Dragon Age was iconic. If you played it, then you know. From Cosplay freaks to hardcore gamers, this game probably cost World of Warcraft a few months of revenue. The 2nd Dragon Age was certainly a good game. Just not quite as fulfilling as the first one. Its as if they slapped it together to meet the demand of potential sales, which is NOT the goal people. Bioware needs to consider the loyalty of the fans before the regurgitate another game like Dragon Age 2. It could've been SO much better if they had just given the fans what they wanted - another one like the original. Why go changing a good thing? If it isn't broken don't fix it. Let's consider the greats. The GTA franchise. Why are they so successful? All the games are the same at their core. They make improvements on graphics and story line. That's it. They don't go changing the entire feel and look of the game like Dragon Age 2 did. Example 2 - The Dead Space franchise. Same explanation as GTA. Example 3 - Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide. Same EXACT feel and the story picked up EXACTLY where the first left off. A SLAM DUNK. Come on Bioware. Pay attention to the trends. If its revenue you're after just do what the past winners have done. You can still maintain originality and produce iconic games without copying the aforementioned. You don't have to sell yourselves short and merely sell out as it may seem that I'm suggesting. Just give the people what they want. It was obvious the writers of the game were still burnt out from making the first one. And that's why a 3rd will never sell as well as the 1st....unless you go back and make another in the same way as the first and use engines similar the those that created games like Uncharted, Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Thief, Dishonored. Catching my point?

I was really looking forward to this game after playing the original. Graphics were improved but the story suffered. Probably rushed to market too early. Overall good experience

Dragon Age 2 is everything you'd want in a sequel and more. However, despite significant improvements to almost every aspect of the game, there are still a few flaws that prevent it from being a 5 star game. The graphics are very much improved and DA2 is taking advantage of next gen console ability. The battle mechanic was speed up making fighting more intensive and rewarding. The storyline, though not a direct sequel, which is never claimed to be, ties in very nicely with DA1 and even has cameo appearances by several characters. The biggest flaw in the game is the recycled maps. There is absolutely no originality in the dungeon areas and by the end of the game, you'll feel burnt out by the repetition. The music in DA2 is also is step backwards in quality. Randomly queuing epic battle music while you're just walking around and an overall worse soundtrack.

    An interesting experiment

I have heard rumors that Dragon Age II was meant to be an experiment of sorts for BioWare. They changed a few key elements in this series to make it similar to their Sci-Fi themed Mass Effect series. Well, it is a hit and a miss in most cases. One of the biggest changes is that you now can only play as a human Male or Female. In Dragon Age: Origins, you could also play as an Elf or a Dwarf, but for the sake of the story, that has been changed. I don't really mind this change that much as whenever a story is more focused, the player will lose some of the flexibility along the way. Another change to this is that now the main character (who's surname is Hawke) speaks now. Rather then standing around with a blank expression while events are happening, you will now actually hear your character paraphrase your chosen response from the dialogue wheel. I like this because it just seems that my character is more engaged in what's going on. Speaking of what's going on, the story itself is more or less a series of side quests that are stung together though out the characters ten year period in the main city. While it does stink that there is no central plot or even real antagonist for you to concern yourself with, the one saving feature of this is rather than waiting until another game is released to see the impact of your decisions, you just have to wait a few years (in game time) to see the results. It would have been cool if BioWare had implemented a main villain and goal, other than Hawke striving to go from rages to riches. Now there are a good chunk of folks who hate the new battle system due to the fact that it is not as strategic as Origins. You still would be advised to micromanage your team for some of the more challenging battles, Because you can just mash on the cross button to do basic attacks, the action is now faster paced than in Origins. It is quite a sight to watch rogue Hawke flip and twirl around the battle field while dispatching foes and mage Hawke causing havok with a standard staff. In short, the animations are better and even after 40+ hours (across two different campaigns) I haven't gotten tired of watching them at all. There still is some strategy involved as it is critical to your battles to handle the most dangerous opponents first, than deal with the scrubs last. I did enjoy the faster battles over the sluggish system used in Origins. My biggest problem with this game is that BioWare stripped away the ability to customize your companions. They wear what they want to wear and even though there are "upgrades" to be bought for their default look, I still am irritated that BioWare denied the player the choice of making their teammates look how they want them to. Other than the lack of choice, another problem this creates is, say you find a really powerful set of robes. However, your Hawke is a warrior. You are now carrying around useless equipment because you can't equip it to Hawke as he/she is not the right class and you can't equip it on your companions because only Hawke can change outfits. It was a really foolish and selfish move on BioWare's part and it just screams cash grab. They probably were going to sell different palette swaps - er, outfits for the companions as DLC later on. If I want my mage to travel in full body armor, I should be able to do so without having to play as warrior Hawke. Another complaint I have is that you spend a lot (and I mean a LOT) of time in the same cave/beach/abandoned building/ city street setting for the duration of the game. Origins had more areas to explore and didn't copy and paste environments as much as this game does. Overall, I have to give BioWare props for willing to take risks with one of their tent pole franchises. You will more than likely enjoy some stuff and loath the rest, depending on your preferences. If you are a fan of the series, it is worth checking out. As long as you don't expect it to be a good as Origins, you won't be disappointed.

Better than Origins, Worse than Mass Effect 2

The Good: conversation wheel and fully-voiced main character, circa Mass Effect. Graphics are much improved, Battles have a much better presentation, and skill/abilities tree is much more streamlined. The Bad: I'm only 7 hours in, but so far: There has been very little correlation between Origins and DAII. There's not an over-arching storyline like in Origins, where you had to become a Grey Warden, defeat the Blight and the Archdemon. In DAII so far, there's lots of quests, but the storyline either has not been revealed or there just isn't a strong one, with the latter not being typical for Bioware.

    Not a Direct Sequal!

If you are looking for the next installment of DA:O then this is not the game for you. The game begins in the same time period as the blight in fereldan just as DA:O had and even shares alot of the same events and consequences as well as favorite characters from origins (and a few from awakening). That is where the similarities end, however. The story line is very interesting but nothing like the original or its add-on DA:A. You are thrown in the middle of Kirkwall's problems (a city in the free marches). Whether it is the invaders from Par Vollen or the battle of templars vs. the circle. There are tons of side quests and great character depth. great customization and replay value as well. Do not listen to the reviews that say this is a bad sequal to the original since ITS NOT! If you enjoyed the original games then you will have alot of fun with this game as well. Just dont expect to pick up right where origins or awakening left off.

I enjoy the Dragon Age series, I played the first one, the expansion and all the add-ons. I picked this one up the first day and I have enjoyed it from day one. I like that you can import your story from the first one or add a different one from the default list if you want. The only complaint is that the game freezes at times.

It's a good game but I've dealt with some glitches which can be really annoying. I wish you can level up more than just the provided enemies for the missions or side missions.

I'm not much of a story guy, but this game is obviously similar to Dragon Age 1. The gameplay was really fun and I liked all of the options for skills. It was cool to be able to change your relationships with your party members and the story, although linear, followed what you decided to do.

it is a great game overall but not what i expected story does not add up to my origins file so it really took me a while to figure out whats going on who am i and so forth. A few characters from the old one came over but it still had no use, they don't cover the characters good but for vets like me an others we was fine identify them.

Bioware chose to streamline the game and eliminate most RPG elements. Some may enjoy the action hack n slash of this sequel, but I actually enjoyed the RPG original. It still has a nice story with it, and it has improved graphics. But I just cannot stand the gameplay and the utter simplicity of the sequel in comparison to the original.

This game is not at all what I expected. It is no where close to being a sequel to DA Orgins. This is a game full of side missions with no one big overall mission as in DA Orgins. I have played this game about 10 hours and still have no idea what the purpose of the game is or even what the storyline is. This was truly a waste of money. To anyone who is buying this game hoping to get the same experience that you got with DA Orgins, don't waste your money or time. The only thing that I do enjoy about this game is the graphics. The graphics are great. I loved Mass Effects 1&2, and DA Orgins, but this game is definately making me wonder how good Mass Effects 3 will actually be when it comes out.
