Fantastic Game!

This is a fantastic RPG that Bioware has made. I was looking for a great RPG that had a great story line, was very long, and was also very replayable. Dragon Age: Origins is that game and so much more.
With six different origin stories to choose from, you can expierence the story multiple times from different viewpoints. Custom leveling lets you make your character fit the role you want it to, along with the ability to custom manage your party members as well. Plenty of side-quests and side-missions will keep you pumping in the hours.
If you are expecting amazing graphics you won't find them here, some of the locations are amazing, some of them are average. Overall the graphics are average as well I would say. The sounds and music are fantastic. I would definately recommend this game to any RPG fan.

Excellent RPG with Plenty of Downloadable Content

It took me a little while to get used to the Diablo-like gameplay, but have now learned to embrace and kind of like it. It is a nice change from the Final Fantasy like, turn-base fighting. Good storyline with a choose-your-own adventure type layout. You have some control over how the story plays out. Plenty of side quests to keep the game not so linear. I'm up to 55 hrs and have only discovered 70% of the map. And I still have all the downloadable content if I'm still craving for more.

I have had this game since it came out last year and I can say this is the first RPG I have really enjoyed on the 360, There is so much focus on the FPS games that I thought it was a lost art. The story was great and quite diverese, the ability to play 6 different opening stories/people was very cool, I loved the way that decisions you make in the game can effect the game, I have played all of the Final Fantasy games and this game was alot more mature, and alot darker, you can tell it was really made for a more mature player, it's nice to see, it's almost like going to the movies, everything is PG-13 where this would have been rated R. The only thing that I would say bad about the game was the graphics could use a bit of work, but the gameplay, and real time battle system were great, nothing turn based which was nice, also the ability to play at different difficulty levels was nice, I was able to start off easy and work my way up. If you like RPG's this is really worth it, the downloadable content adds another 5-10 hours of gameplay and is worth the MS points in my eyes as well, overall a 4.9 out of 5!

Pros: Bioware is one of the premiere story tellers in the gaming world and Dragon Age does not disappoint. You can get lost in the story and choosing a path of being of upright and courteous or just joke around or be evil and unscrupulous. I love the side conversations that go on between the characters while you are adventuring and searching. The fight sequences can be complicated at times but generally they are intense and entertaining. I do like the option to lower the skill level if you keep on getting crushed at the same combat scene. I was looking for a game that would take me longer than 8 to 10 hours to complete and this game has certainly fit that mold. I know I will go back and choose a different character class and try taking on a different personality.
Cons: The first thing that surprised me was the grainy looking graphics. The opening startup with Bioware and the cover shot looked promising however when the game gets started the graphics are a disappointment. I am not saying they are horrible or really even that bad, but with KOTR and Mass Effect, Bioware has that Reputation of putting out great story telling and stunning graphics. This looks like they ported it down from the PC rather than working on all of what the Xbox can provide in the graphics department. Next, the choose your dialogue is great but can bog down the game because there is so much information that you can get from asking questions and trying to pick which is the best way to get the information you are looking for. Lastly, the control setup is ideal for a PC with keyboard and mouse, but for the game consoles, the layout and getting to the spells, weapons, medkits, and so forth is very clunky and cumbersome at times and it especially shows when you are in combat.
Overall: The game is decent and I would recommend it to anyone that liked Knights of the Old Republic and D&D RPGs. If you have a PC, I would say stick with the PC version. The story line, like I said before is deep and if you don't mind the graphic step down, then this is definitely for you. Most of the Magazine reviews and online game reviews that I have read and seen have been pretty accurate.

I've played many RPGs and find this one to be at the top of my list. It is definitely right up there with Fallout, KOTOR, Oblivion and other deep roleplaying games.
If you're looking for a simple action RPG you are in the wrong place. This is game has so much artistry in every aspect it would be a crime to ignore it all.
I've told the wife it is like playing a book.
Sound:
There is a lovely classical soundtrack with choral elements, I think you can even buy it separately.
The characters are very well voice acted, far superior to Oblivion, Fable or Fallout3.
Gameplay:
The gameplay has an overall plot with many many branches and different ways to play based on your origin (human, dwarf, etc) and the class you play, as well as the places you visit and in what order. This is the selling point of the game. You can get 50 hours out of it, but that is only with 1\6 possible characters, and since the plot changes with each one, you can realistically get at least 300 hours. I'm not kidding.
Of course you would know many spoilers by the last couple of playthroughs, but if you want to compare it to another game like Call of Duty for example, you play it through once and thats about all you get. Imagine playing Call of Duty as a medic instead for example.
Combat is accessible yet challenging, with different difficulties available if you find it too hard/easy.
Graphics:
Similar to Mass Effect. The characters are very detailed and look great. Backgrounds are less so, but acceptable.
Fun:
I haven't had this much fun with a game in a long long time. Deeply engrossing. Make sure you don't forget to sleep!

Game is good, recommended if you like Mass Effect and KOTOR. I think this game resembles KOTOR more but people are comparing it to ME probably because they're both available on 360. I also recommend this game if you did not like Mass Effect because it succeeds where Mass Effect didn't, and vise versa. ME's visuals were excellent, and that's probably the only downside here, but otherwise, the story is reasonably not too geeky or childish, the interface is great as far as console games go, and the voice acting is the best I've ever heard in a video game, not that I've heard anything comparably as good. I feel the need to reiterate that: the voice acting is excellent.
My only complaint is that I wish I a) had a gaming pc to play this on b) bought this for pc. Not the game's fault - the 360 port is as good as it can be.

This is the best RPG I've played in a long time. The story is engaging and complex, the world is full of interesting NPC's, and the characters have a great range of abilities allowing for near infinite customizing options. The side quests make for interesting encounters, and are a great way to get XP. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm sure it will be worth it when I do. (Provided I can tear my wife away from it long enough!)

Another Great Game from Bioware...but With Flaws

After a little over 26 hours of playing Dragon Age, I finally concluded the game. Few things I can say is that the game is pretty good, the story is interesting (though it reminds me of Lord of the Rings in some ways), and the length of the game is pretty long depending if you do a lot of stuff outside the main story. The graphics look a little washed, though not bad, just not jaw dropping for a next gen game. The biggest problem I had with the game was the combat, I found my character just standing around and not attacking, and when I locked on to another enemy my character would run from the fight, which after a while became very annoying. The loading times in the game can be long, but I didn't mind regardless. Overall, a good solid game that delivers entertainment.

I got this game for my son for Christmas, and ended up playing it myself.
When I first played the game, I was impressed with the sheer depth of the gameplay. There were so many options available, and so many different abilities to unlock that I thought it might become overwhelming. Not so. The game progressed easily and I found that just by playing it, I was able to pick up the plethora of options and abilities on offer.
The game's storyline is pretty good, and it kept me coming back for more. I just had to see what was around the next corner (firguratively and literally), and what the next quest would be. I became hooked pretty quickly. There are moments when the dialog becomes a little boring, but stick with it and you'll enjoy it nonetheless.
The graphics are amazing. There are of course times where the characters' faces don't match their emotions, and hands always seem to give programmers a hard time, occasionally acting like water-filled rubber gloves instead of flesh and blood appendages, but these can easily be forgiven when you look at the bigger picture.
Overall, a very worthwhile game. If you like this genre, this is a must have; if you're new to it, it's the cream of the crop.
Buy it, you won't regret it.

Bio Ware makes great RPG's that's what they do. This is along the same line as Star Wars KOTOR, or that martial arts story they did. It is action packed, story driven, and a ton of fun. It isn't an easy breeze to beat- you will find your self reloading and doing over areas so save a lot you'll need to. Eventually you will figure out what works better for you and how you will do it. You do need to micro manage your party or they will die- what that means is (kinda pause) switch between your characters and then tell them who to fight and how to do it or they will suck. There are a lot of settings where you can tell them what kind of person to attack (weakest-strongest etc.) but I found micro managing your best way to success- and its fun. The story is inspired and a great piece of fiction on its own. The world is beautiful and fully fleshed and there are a lot of varied creatures and quests to do or kill. Play this game you will love it- I'm starting my second run through now (there are like 7 or more different stories to play through at the begining for your main character choice). Enjoy!!!

This game has consumed my life for a month or so. Deep storyline and plenty of decisions to make about how the story progresses. I won and I'm replaying it just so I can develop a character differently and have new story options.
Your character can even have romance in the game- I played as a female and seduced Prince Allistaire, but he dumped me after his coronation because I wasn't of noble birth- doh! I'm going to see If I can change the outcome second time around.
Your life will remain forever incomplete until you save the land of Ferelden at least once!

I thought this game was great. You have 3 very diverse classes to choose from and they can be broken down into 4 specializations when you hit levels 7 and 14. on top of that you have a skill tree that allows you to customize them even more. Stories very good and hooks you. Main story is very long by itself, and if you do all the sides quests it can add problem another 10-20hours. I also liked how the decisions you made in the game makes a big difference on the ending. Must buy if you like games like mass effect, oblivion, knights of the old republic et.

This game is much like Oblivion but better in my opinion. It will keep you busy for hours completing quests with each character. You can use dwarf, elf and many other races on this game. The gameplay as far as magic, weapons and armor are superb and it appears to have a strong storyline. The problem i had with this game is the graphics. I guess the game has so much content packed on one disc they had to cut the graphics a bit to fit it all on one disc. If you like oblivion style games this game may be for you if you can look past the horrible graphics.

I bought the Collectors Edition right on opening day. While last night was the first time playing it, I got sucked into 5 hrs of game time. I played from 7 to 12AM, and I have to get up for work at 5:30. This game made me lose all track of all time. I have been waiting for a fantasy RPG that fully sucks me in, and this does it. Story telling great, character development great. Game play is good, controls take some getting used to and the graphics could use alittle more polish (it is no oblivion). But in the end this game seems to be getting into my top 5 best games of all time (so far).
If you want a game that gets you involved (really involved) this is the one. THIS GAME MAKES YOU WANT TO KNOW WHATS NEXT!!! Anyone that loves RPGs and got bored of WOW, Oblivion, or any other. It is a MUST try!!!!

I have played this game for 20 hours and so far i am completely entranced in it. The story is awesome. So far most of these reviewers either have not played it for long enough or havnt played it at all. Mine IS a PS3 version but its still a non pc game. The graphics are not as bad as every1 is complaining about. I like it more than oblivion so far though it does hae many similiarities with oblivion, mass effect and kotor. Its not linear so you can choose where you go once you get out of your origin story and the begining part. I have only seen 1 origin story but so far this game will deserve another playthrough. If you like other bioware games you WILL like this game. This is the best rpg I have played in recent memory. It is worth the 60$.

This game was amazing at first, a fresh game play style for medieval magic style gaming. It reminds me of final fantasy 2, where ur hand was held through the story line and it tells u where to go and what to do. U are basically walking through a game and there is no figuring it out. My biggest complaint is that the weapons and armour system has no value, u run into some of the first zones and get some of the best items in the game and from there on nothing realy changes on ur character as far as gear. Overall its a good game if you play it on harder difficulty settings, but after about 20 hours of game time it becomes one of those games where your doing the same thing in different zones, over and over and over and u lose interest... If u reroll ur main character the first 10 minutes of the game are different and the rest is the same as well which killed the replay value for me. The expansion i took back the same day because it was just a continuation of the same zones and grind from this one.

Best RPG since Oblivion

I'll admit from the start that I'm an old school RPG fan. Played D&D on paper back in the day and graduated to PC gaming in the 80s. In terms of Xbox 360 console games, Oblivion set the gold standard but it's been a while since any new content was released for it. Fable II was cute but I I just can't get into it enough to even finish the game. Enter Dragon Age. At first I wasn't so sure about it, but quickly got into my character's "background" story. I would guess that their are at least 8 different possibilities here and besides building character development it affects the direction of the entire game. This means that even though I've played it through with one character, I could start over with another and get a substantial amount of new material. I"ve got the available downloadable content and hope to see more soon. The combat system is Ok, but what really sets this game apart from others is the great story lines. I found myself really getting into them even if the cut scenes occasionally drag on too long. My biggest complaint is that there is gratuitous blood spattering in combat and the characters are literally spattered in blood for a while after every fight. Thus my young kids won't be able to play it -- I'd let them without the gore.

i played oblivion and it was fun at first but it was to realistic where you can level up by doing almost anything and that was annoying and not need. this game you level up the typical way strength, dexterity so on but then there new skills to know and having your own group of allies with you where ever you go is really fun to
