For those not in the know, this is a full remake of the NES game from 1988, “Dragon Warrior III”.
Graphically, this title is absolutely stunning, with the new “HD-2D” style popularized by “Octopath Traveler”. Just gorgeous. The blend of pixel art characters and the 3-D environments mesh together perfectly.
Gameplaywise, this game is an exemplar of the classical turn-based RPG popularized by this and the earlier Final Fantasy titles. The job system (character classes) has been overhauled, with the new Monster Wrangler class new to this version. Midway through, you get the ability to change your allies’ classes, while keeping the learned abilities and half the stats of the previous class. For achievement hunters, it’s pretty easy to earn them all if you’re already a completionist.
All in all, an easy recommend.
By the way, this game is first in the chronological order, so feel free to play it before the upcoming remakes on DQ I & II.

It was a very good old school JRPG, this remake does a very good job at recreating the original, overall would recommend if you’re a big Dragon quest fan

This was a huge fiasco. I tried to call the store to see if they had copies of this game. The person on the phone suggested I could purchase it over the phone and they would send it to me. Sounded like a good idea. When we received the game We opened it up and found the correct game case contained another, different disk.(see pics) So I immediately called the “store” purchased another copy with the intention of returning the one they sent. I drove to the store thinking I had purchased it from the store. The manager said they could not return an opened game. And said It was an online purchase. I canceled the second order then came home and spent an hour on the phone with an attendant. She said I could return the incorrect item to the store. I drove to the store again. Then the manager said They could not take it back and I would have to mail it back. I called again and spent another 30 mins on the phone. They eventually sent me a box with which I could return the item and authorized a refund. Finally after getting a refund, I bought the game through Amazon. I will never purchase anything else at any best buy. If you’re going to purchase a game, buy it from Amazon.

The hd graphics look great and retain the feel of the original. Lots of new features and modernization. This is the first story chronologically, so if you care about that sort if thing and were waiting to play 1 and 2 first, feel free to play this first. 5/5

Enjoyed playing this remake. It plays great on Ps5. Hadnt played dragon quest 3. It is on the same level as the remake for 1&2. Though this one doesn't have the extra content 1&2 did.

I remember playing this game on the 8-bit Nintendo back in the day. This remake brought back memories. It has a lot of the same elements but with newer game play things to do. Its different enough to feel like a newer updated game, but a lot of similarities to the original game that it doesnt fully feel like a remake.

Another brilliant HD-2D game by SquareEnix. A truly faithful remake to the 1988 NES classic. Incredible modernized graphics and incredible orchestral score, with new quality of life improvements.

A superb remake of a legendary hallmark in JRPG history. It takes everything that was good about Dragon Quest III and applies a fresh coat of paint. It’s also a bit easier to get into than older versions of the game.
If you like Dragon Quest or other traditional old-school JRPGs, I’d recommend giving this one a look!

Square-Enix has beautifully reimagined this classic rpg from my own childhood, into a version that I can now proudly recommend to my family’s current youngest generation, who’ve been spoiled by the graphics and “bells-and whistles” of modern gaming systems.
This is truly a wonderful adaptation of an already great game, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who enjoys role-playing games, or is curious about gaming history.

Basically every JRPG of the last 35 years owes a debt of gratitude to Dragon Quest III, and this is undoubtedly the best way to play it. Outstanding visuals and much appreciated quality of life improvements make this an easy recommendation to anyone even slightly interested in the franchise or turn-based RPGs in general.
