Dragon Quest IV is Dragon Warrior IV for the NES, with updated graphics, the ability to spin your view 3D. It is almost exactly the same game - almost. The difference between DQIV and DWIV are few. The dungeons are much shorter. It doesn't take the same amount of time to level. Some dungeons are close to the same as the original while others have been dramatically altered. Most of the towns are close to the same as the original. With updated NPC's though - each chapter in the game has a different dialect, from Scottish to Russian. Characters don't say exactly the same thing as the original, but often close to the same thing. The first difference you'll notice right off the bat is you start with the hero's story. In the original, you didn't realize that your name would actually have a bearing on the game until the last chapter. Many things have been tuned down to be quite a bit more casual. FFIII is for hardcore RPG'ers. DQIV is for fairly casual RPG'ers. This is a classic game, redone so that you actually want to play it again. If you play the original NES game, sometimes you want to stop because the encounters occur much too frequently and you just want the story to move on. In this game, you rarely have that problem. This was an amazing game for its time, and still is. The story was a surprise on each turn. It's starts off with the classic soldier. Then you realize on the next chapter that there are more characters involved. And each of their stories makes the game slightly more involving. This game is the reason I am addicted to video games and RPG's.

I'm a big fan of Dragon Warrior IV on the NES. This is an updated version. Dungeons are NOT actually shorter (unlike some reviewers say). They are laid out exactly the same, take it from a huge Dragon Warrior IV fanboy. I think that impression is due to the double screen on the DS...sometimes it's easier to not walk into dead ends which saves some time. Also, the characters walk a lot faster than the original NES game which makes dungeons seem a lot shorter. The difficulty has been weakened in the early chapters, especially IMO Chapters 1 & 2. There's more gold being handed out, I believe, which also makes the curve easier as most of the time you can afford the best equipment - or get it pretty easily. Chapter 5 remains difficult at times. The tough spots in the original remain so. Unlike the earlier chapters, many Ch. 5 bosses remained tough and killed me on occasion. The end boss seemed a bit toned down but still tough - it took me twice to beat him and a lot of very careful play. Overall, it's a very good update of the best NES RPG. The translated accents are silly, and in the case of Ch. 2, downright awful. The difficulty will probably be fine for DQ4 newbies or folks used to newer RPGs that are very easy (I beat FFX and was only wiped out once...snooze).

This is such a fun game, it is perfect for beginners. I used to play this on the original Nintendo system. The only thing I would change is making more hidden items in pots and wells. It seems that game developers forget to put them in as many places as possible, or they don't want to. There are items in some odd spots and then other, more obvious better spots where nothing is hidden at all. Other than that, this game is incredible. I enjoy playing this with all the new revamps and graphics. It reminds me of my teenage years.

This is sa sweet game. The graphics are absoultely amazing in my opinion.
