I bought it because my bluray went out & I needed something quick & cheap to get me to payday. It did just what I needed for the short time I needed it.

I don't know if it's normal but this one makes a grinding noise when the DVD starts up. Then the noise stops. You have to push the remote buttons fairly hard to get it to do what you want it to do. The only other issue with it is, when I start it up and push the play button every time the message "Invalid Key" shows up at the top of the screen, yet the DVD starts to play. Other than that the DVDs have played fine, no issue with skipping or stopping.

When listening to DVDs, one wonders where is that pinging sound coming from? It gives you that extra added benefit of additional subsound like a whirring ping in the background.

After several (actually many) attempts, I could not get the dvds to bring closed captioning on the screen even though each DVD has the symbol CC (closed captioning). These dvds do caption on my other tv set.
