Customers are saying

Customers love the entertainment value of Dynasty Warriors 9, citing its action, music, and graphics. However, significant criticism focuses on the game's gameplay and the poorly implemented open world. Many feel the open world detracted from the game experience, and that the overall gameplay was subpar compared to other titles. The game's visuals and AI were also frequently cited as areas needing improvement.

Will destroy your love for the franchise

This was a game which I have eagerly anticipated for well over a year now. I was anxious to learn how the Warriors formula of "1 vs. 1,000" would work in an open world. The short answer - it doesn't. The long answer? Dynasty Warriors 9 is a broken half-effort of a game. It amplifies the flaws of the series (repetitive combat, lack of depth, and recycled content) and scraps everything good about the series (over the top characters & scenes, time management, meaningful objectives, etc.) in the name of the largest, flattest, most lifeless open world imaginable. Graphics This game looks like an early PS3 game, if we're being generous. Performance - This game routinely dips below 20 frames per second, especially during larger battles. Lag spikes are very noticeable. Buildings and trees spawn often spawn a foot in front of your character. Entire packs of animals can disappear into thin air as you hunt them. Soldiers visibly slide across the battlefield, lagging so hard that they skip walking animations entirely. Combat - Combat variety in this series has never been its strongest point, but this game takes that issue to the next level. Every character has the same 3 Trigger Attacks (knock-up, knock-down, and stun), which are then followed by a few light attacks called "flow attacks." This process of trigger -> flow is repeated until the enemy dies, the enemy dodges away, or an execute quick-time event prompt appears over their head. Every encounter on every character plays out like this. Missions - This game doesn't have map design. It has a flat open plain in which enemies are haphazardly arranged and side-objectives are spread out miles apart. The player could pursue these side objectives to lower the level requirement of the final boss encounter, or they could just grapple hook over the castle walls and attack the boss directly, which is not nearly as challenging as one would think. Similarly, side objectives could be accomplished by taking down as many foes as possible, but there is no incentive to attack anyone other than the target officers, making a Warriors game that plays like a very poor man's Assassin's Creed. All in all, don't buy this game. It's hideous. It runs inexcusably poorly. The repetitive soundtrack will drive you insane. The open world is a barren, lifeless joke. Bugs abound and there is no fun to be had. If you are a Dynasty Warriors fan, this game will destroy your goodwill towards the franchise.

This game is not bad at all. With the latest patch they released the frame rate has been fixed and the game has run smoothly ever since. Give this a try, I have yet to be bored of this game.
