I recently bought a new computer that had 2 USB 3.0 ports in the back. These cables make it easier to take advantage of the USB 3.0's instead of using the USB 2.0's in the front.

I needed to bring USB 3 connections to the front of a desktop. This is a little longer than I need, but it works as well as a direct connect. And the price was the best I found.
