Great Combo Humidifier and Air Purifier

Living in Texas, especially in the summer, you quickly learn that you need cold air that's clean. The problem is that most air conditioning also strips the humidity from the air, so you're left with a dry cold air that also can cause other issues, like nosebleeds. Since my daughter is dealing with allergy-induced asthma, we wanted something that would keep the air clean as well as add a touch of humidity without making her room feel warm.
The Dyson humidifier and purifier combo was just what we were looking for. It's got a great set of features:
- Cleanable and reusable filters, so no added filter expense
- Option for just fan without humidity
- Humidity level control
- Fans can blow air out front or out back
- Remote control to change settings from bedside
We set this thing up and we were immediately impressed with it. As far as dimensions go, it's about 3 ft tall and resembles the Dyson air multiplier look - the big oval shape on top of a base. The center of the base is where the LED screen and filter are located. The LED screen flips through a few different air quality measurements and even has a nightlight feature that dims and blanks the screen out so you're not kept awake by LED lights when you're trying to sleep.
The very bottom of the base is where the water tank is located. We used bottled, distilled water to fill it up since we didn't want water hardness build-up or other germs to get a free ride into our daughter's respiratory system while she slept.
It's also very quiet at most settings. My daughter was able to sleep with a setting that kept the humidity at 30% and the fan level around 2. It provided just enough "white noise" to help her fall asleep, but not enough to keep her awake.
I've been very impressed with this machine in the months that we've had it. Now that my daughter's allergy asthma has cleared up, I've moved it to my home office since I work from home most days now. I've washed the filters a few times, the total process that Dyson recommends takes hours, mostly for the filters to dry.
My only real gripe, and it's a very minor one at that, is this only does cool air where as some of Dyson's other devices have the option for warm air also. A wishlist item for me would also be a way to connect it with my smart home settings. It would be nice if it could keep track of the air quality in a stand-by mode and kick on if it detects a change in air quality or humidity. But that's just a wish in my case, and it's certainly not something that prevents me from recommending this device.

This would run all day and not change the humidity at all. It lies about its effectiveness.
I plugged it in and it said the humidity in my room was 35°. I set it to 40° humidity and 30 minutes later it said the humidity in the room was now 41° so the unit paused. I unplugged it for no more than 10 secs to untangle the cord and immediately plugged back in, and it said the humidity was back at 35°. The unit turned on trying to raise the humidity again and paused once it reached 40°.
I suspected it wasnt accurate so I left it running overnight and in the morning bought a separate humidity reader to put near the unit, and it confirmed the room was still 35° even tho the display read 40°.
What a waste!!!
It’s getting returned tomorrow.

Hello OptimusGrime,
Thank you for your review. This is Miella from Dyson. We're sorry to hear of your frustration with your Dyson Purifier Humidity+Cool PH3A machine. The PH3A is designed to bring the room to the desired target humidity. Once this is reached, the machine will turn off. If you want it to continue monitoring the room, we recommend putting the machine in Auto Mode so that it will continue to adjust.
We hope you'll continue to consider Dyson products for your home in the future.
Best Wishes, Miella Dyson Customer Support

Hi Sammy, this is Kelly with Dyson. We can confirm that if you are looking for a connected device, the PH3A Autoreact is not the model you'd want to choose. This will perform the same, in terms of purification and humidification, but it does not have the built-in Wi-Fi or Blue tooth to connect to the Dyson App. If you still have any questions or concerns that we can help to address, feel free to get in touch with us at [email protected].

Lots of fancy features. A lot of information on the screen. No manual that explains how to use it. Cant find anything online either. For this kind of money amd with all the features they should explain what it is all doing. Says the air in my house is bad but i dont even understand what it is saying.

All in all this is a good unit but it does have drawbacks so I will get those out of the way first. The round screen on the front to show IAQ and other features is entirety too small. You have to be right up on top of it to see the display. Its bright enough, just too small. Second is too many filters. There are 3 and none are reusable. Personally just another way for Dyson to keep making money on their already sold units. As we all know, nothing is cheap with Dyson. Finally this would be a much better unit if it had bluetooth. For all the other bells and whistles this unit has as well as its price point, Bluetooth would have been ideal. Otherwise it is a very powerful device. Tank gets filled at the bottom, slide it back in and you can make it fully automated. It monitors temp air quality amd humidity. I wish i had a more positive things to say about this Dyson product but it completely left me underimpressed. Its very tall and weighs close to 20 pounds so it is not something that can be easily hidden.

I've had a few Dyson products over the years and I always marvel at the design. They always seem like functional works of art and that's why I like them. This humidifier/purifier is no exception. If you're considering buying one, though, you may want to know a couple of details that aren't very obvious to find in the literature.
First, this model has no network connectivity. Everything is controlled by the infrared remote that conveniently attaches to a magnet on the top of the "amplifier loop" where the air comes out. (Don't lose the remote, by the way, because a replacement is $30.) Not being able to control it via an app really isn't a problem for me, though, as I expect to just leave it running on auto most of the time.
Second, it's just a little bit more complicated to clean the evaporator than a "hassle-free deep clean...at the touch of a button." It's great that you can use tap water in the humidifier, but then minerals from your water will collect on the evaporator which is a little round filter in the middle of the unit. To clean it, you'll need to mix 5.3 oz of citric acid crystals in the tank, put the evaporator in it, then you can press the button. An hour later you just rinse everything off and you're good to go. The nice thing is Dyson includes 3 packets of citrix acid in the box to get you started, but you'll need to keep a supply on hand. Even with that mild inconvenience, it's still a great way to clean the evaporator. Citrix acid is a lot more pleasant chemical than something like acetic acid/vinegar. If you have pretty hard water, Dyson says you might have to clean it once per month.
The "scheduling" feature of the unit is really just a sleep timer to shut it off. I would have preferred to have a true schedule where I could put it in night mode at 10 p.m. and go back to normal at 8 a.m., but this doesn't appear to be possible. Still, with the remote I can just hit the sleep button before bed. Sleep mode keeps the fan between levels 1 and 4 (there are 10 levels) so it's very quiet and also dims the color LCD display. Even at the higher levels, though, I'd still say the fan is fairly quiet compared to other brands I've used.
Like everything else, the air filters are designed to be easily accessed and replaced. The Dyson documentation says the filters should last a year running 12 hours per day. The replacements are $79 which seem to be in line with other brands of comparable size.
Speaking of Dyson documentation, if you have other questions or are looking for other details, you should go to dyson.com/myPH3A. This link is on the first paper when you open the box. They have some excellent short videos showing how to assemble, use various features of, and maintain the unit. You can download the user manual there and also read some FAQs.
I haven't really got to try out the humidifier function yet because unfortunately we're right at the beginning of the high humidity spring and summers here in OK. I'm really looking forward to having it in the bedroom during the winter, however. For now, I'll enjoy the cooling fan and the purified air.

I love Dyson for Vacuums…
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I wanna start by saying I love Dyson products as I own 2vacuums 1 air purifier and 1 air purifier/humidifier. All of my products work great with none of them ever having issues I think the cordless vacuum the battery went bad but they replaced it and has been working great.
Now let’s talk about this Purifier/Humidifier. This thing has been giving me problems since the first 3 months I got it. The humidifier part just does not work and I’ve spoken to Dyson tech support and basically what they told me after them trying to fix my issue was that this is due to bad design. They’ve even had send back my unit and sent me a new and the same issue happens over time. They designed the water tank into the cover of the tank which is problem no 1. The unit will give error messages with the most common “tank empty” message. This unit will still purify but not humidify but isn’t that what we paid for? Just google Dyson humidifier “tank empty” and I’m not the only one with this issue.
Dyson makes great products but this one ain’t it and for there tech people to admit that it’s due t a design flaw is disappointing after spending 800.00. You’ve been warned stay away from these
