The Ecobee3 thermostat was easy to install by myself without an electrician. I replaced a Honeywell wireless model that never worked right. I was happy from the moment the thermostat was installed and very excited about the prospect of having remote sensors in other rooms. Just one sensor in the upstairs has made the house consistently comfortable compared to the temperature variance with the Honeywell. I am glad I went for this product and not the Nest (no remote sensors). With the rebate from the electric company - $100 and the rebate from the gas company - $50, this thermostat is the same cost as I paid for the old thermostat. A great value and I haven't even looked at the online reporting features yet.

I was skeptical of these "smart" thermostats at first, saying to my self, "when would I use something like this?". Especially, since I was too lazy to program a schedule in my old digital thermostat.
Fast forward to a couple of months ago - My utility company offered a $100 rebate to upgrade to certain "smart" thermostat models. This sparked my interest. I dug through the list, researched the ecobee3, the Nest, and a few others and ultimately what swayed my decision was the ecobee3's use of remote sensors.
My upstairs bedroom was always warmer than the main floor and every other thermostat on the market would be oblivious to this fact. Then there's the ecobee3 with it's remote sensors. Problem solved. It doesn't stop working until I'm comfortable, whichever room I'm in. Their tagline is so fitting - "for homes with more than one room." Gotta love it!
There are a ton of useful features, I can change/monitor my temperature from anywhere, installation was painless, and it just looks good on my wall. Yes, the $100 rebate did offset the cost for me, but if you're in the market for a smart thermostat, I'd say it would be worth full price!

I recently installed my Ecobee3 thermostat and have loved it ever since. I was using a Honeywell wifi touch screen before which I liked very much but wanted to have the added feature of the remote sensors to monitor the other parts of the house. It does a great job on keeping the house at a constant temperature using the average of all the sensors. I did purchase two more sensors to get even better results. Install was very easy and didn't have any problems. We only have a forced air furnace and didn't have any problems setting the Ecobee3 up with this system. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for the top of the line thermostat!!

Have more than one room in your house that you heat or cool, then this is buy. Online compatibility checker at ecobee.com is the first stop. Easy to install and up and running without issue. Remote sensors level the comfort across the house. I use a single zone with two stories and it maintains the temp between them. Adding in control for a humidifier was simple and you can configure reminders in for filter maintenance or anything really. Easily my best investment for home comfort and savings. Connects to Amazon Alexa for temp control from the couch, do you really need anything else not to buy ;)

I had this professionally installed, it took him less than 20 minutes. Connecting it to the home network and setting it up was very easy, the sensors automatically synced with the thermostat. I have 2 separate units and the sensors do not interfere with each other. The Ecoobee 3 looks great and fits in nicely with the room display. I love the weather display on the unit and the ease of the mobile app to control the it remotely. Can set the Ecobee for different times, and modes such as vacation.

I bought a new AC System and decided to also upgrade my thermostat. I have put the remote sensor in another room so it can monitor the temperature in both the hallway and the living room where I spend most of my time. It was simple to install. I love how I can change the temperature when I am away from home or by speaking to Siri on my Apple Watch in bed watching tv. You can't go wrong with this product. Five stars all the way!!!

I only wish I would have purchased this sooner! I had been thinking about buying a Wifi thermostat for about a year, but just couldn't bring myself to buy one. After reading all the reviews and winter coming once again, I finally pulled the trigger. This is a great product and the app works perfectly. The Ecobee did have some connectivity problems the first week or so, but it seems to have found itself now. It was easily resolved pulling it off its base and putting it back on which essentially gives it a re-boot. If you don't have a "C"/common wire going to your current thermostat, then this will take about 15 more minutes to install as you have to install a power extender in your hvac system. Let me tell you, if I can do it, then you will have no problem, just follow the directions. What are you waiting for, go get yourself one.

Bought to use with my Smartthings setup. Wanted something we can remotely manage if required. Installation was easy, house is relatively modern and had all the required cabling already. Hardest thing was there's very little room in the ecobee3 for wires and I had to stuff more wiring than I thought into the wall. Connecting to WiFi was a snap. Unfortunately, the ability to detect that we are out of the house and adjust temperature accordingly doesn't help much, since I work from home and basically just keep the temperature the same all the time.

Works great. Love it! Does everything it is supposed to do. Installation very easy. HomeKit set up was easy and works great.
Only reason I did not give it five stars (would chose 4.5 stars if possible) is that the sensor and extra sensors you buy with it seem to mostly have the window not on top of the actual sensor. Had to open it and turn the cover around. But ecobee has a tutorial on their website and offers a replacement so they are aware of the issue and hopefully won't be shipping out too many sensor that are incorrectly assembled. App could be better, but is much better than for example the original Philips hue app.
Am very happy with my purchase!

We bought this mainly because we wanted sensors on the other floors of our house because of the temperature swings we have. We have had this for a month and like it. Easy to install. Ability to remotely adjust stuff is cool. Sometimes loses connection to one of our remote sensors. Costumer support is a bit slow. I haven't experimented with other features yet like the reports or set up IFTTT programs. Best feature is the ability to tell it which sensors to base temperature on. For example, at night we have it focus on the two bedrooms used and it averages the temperature between to two to set at our set temperature.

I was initially reluctant to purchase another smart thermostat, after my poor experience with a Nest. The Ecobee3 is nothing like the Nest. The Ecobee3 is easy to set up and takes care of any of the issues that I experienced with Nest, like not have a C or common wire. I purchased the Ecobee3 because we have a multi-level home that gets much warmer upstairs than it does downstairs. The thermostat is downstairs and the upstairs is usually 7 to 10 degrees warmer, than the downstairs. The Ecobee3 has solved that problem with their remote sensor. I simply placed the sensor in the warmest room upstairs and then the thermostat averages the temperatures, and cool/heats to a much more accurate temperature. It is a beautiful thing and the closest thing to having zone controlled HVAC. I highly recommend this thermostat and it has been a dream thus far.

The hardest part was connecting the C voltage wire that was not connected on my previous thermostat...not Ecobee's fault. Turned out to be pretty straight forward once I realized what I needed to do. I got confused because the wire color was different from what was noted in the installation instructions. I did work with Ecobee support on this and they got me through it quickly and followed up. Great service on their part. Only issue to be aware of is remote sensor placement. I have one on the fringe of my wireless range and it does drop and reconnect a decent amount. What's nice is that emails communicate when this happens. It's an issue with my wireless network and not the remote sensor.
The unit works well. The apps are ok with the hardest part being scheduling. Once you get a hang of it it's fire and forget. Works great with IOS Home Kit and a new Apple TV facilitating remote control out of the house. You need this for Siri control as well. Another nice feature is the ability to monitor HVAC usage, in house temperature and outside temperature together historically. In house temperatures are very consistent.
Nothing better than being able to control, automate and monitor your HVAC from anywhere. If you want to dabble in smart home hardware a thermostat is a great place to start. This is a great unit.

This thermostat is very easy to install and set up. The HVAC contractor that installed new furnace and AC units for us recently even commented that it is the easiest one he has seen to configure. The ecobee3 is capable of controlling multi-stage systems while taking into consideration outside temperature. It also learns how long it takes to heat and cool the house and predicts when it needs to run to meet your schedule. The main reason I chose the ecobee3 is its use of remote sensors to average the temperatures for the rooms that are occupied and to ignore the rooms that are unoccupied. And if it senses that none of the rooms are occupied it automatically adjusts the temperature to an "away setting".

Best Smart Thermostat on the market

I bought a NEST thermostat originally but didn't like the "Learn"-ing aspect of it.
For instance, if my wife bumps the temperature up one day it doesn't necessarily mean that I want the NEST to learn and set that temperature in a future state - it should just be a temporary setting in my mind.
In general I want programmed modes that can be changed which is what the Ecobee offers via its Comfort Settings.
The Ecobee is very easy to use. I have the app installed on multiple devices and can change the temperature even while away from home.
The ability to use temperature sensors that can be installed in other rooms is also very handy (the Ecobee comes with an extra sensor in the package).
I have a sensor installed in my office where it gets a few degrees colder in the winter. The Ecobee averages the temperature across all sensors and bases it on whether or not the room is occupied.
Home automation is easy to accomplish with the Ecobee as well. I'm using Home Assistant to set the Ecobee to 'Away' mode when we leave the house.
In summary, while the NEST looks great but was not a great fit. We love the Ecobee in our house and are looking to purchase a second one for the downstairs.

I have 2 of these devices. They work great. I love the sensors as well. I bought extra of them as well to ensure that my house is kept at a consistent temp and that there are no cold or warm spots. I also love the fact that it works with Siri so that I can tell my phone what temp to make my house or to use the home or away features.

I purchased two of these units (I have heat pump HVAC units). I wasn't sure if I wanted the Nest or Ecobee. The remote sensors swayed me to the Ecobee. They were easy to install/setup. I have already noticed a difference in how often my units run. I also enjoy being able to quickly check the weather. I would definitely recommend.

Very easy installation and connecting to the internet. Download the app and you are on your way. You can easily control your thermostat from your phone or computer even if you are not home. The best thing.... it doesn't learn from your habits like an other brand thermostat that sells for the same price.

I was thinking about buying a Nest, but decided that having control of the thermostat through Siri was a can't skip feature. I have a tricky home to heat/cool because of the layout, so this product with extra sensors is another reason that the Nest just wasn't going to cut it.
I love the display and other than a few non-intuitive user interface quirks it works well. Apple sets a very high bar for user interface, so I must commend this product for almost getting there. Because I need to circulate the air in my home, I only wish there were more ways to automate when the fan runs. I don't know that any other product on the market does any better, however. Because this product can receive software updates, I can only hope that a future update will add this functionality.
There was one minor manufacturing issue with the sensor that took a couple of minutes to fix. The company sent me an e-mail notifying me of the problem.

I found this device very easy to install and configure. After the initial setup, It's very much "set and forget". The access via smartphone allows me to turn on/off the heat and A/C when my schedule changes. I also like the online charts that show system usage over time.
