Great Thermostat, Fair Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For a lower price than the Nest, the Ecobee3 has a lot more functionality. The remote sensors work very well - you can specify which individual sensors you want it to use for the temperature. The web functionality is hands down better than Nest, with way more information. The Smart Home/Away feature helps maximize comfort and savings. All in all, a great thermostat.

Fantastic money-saving thermostat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Listen, the price seems expensive. I realize that, and it was the main reason I waited to buy the ecobee3. After moving into my new house and my getting my first two EXORBITANT energy bills, I was willing to try anything. Enter the ecobee3. Installation was a snap thanks to the included and online instructions (finding my hidden C-wire was the only difficult part). The remote sensors are amazing. I have a two-story home and the ability to have the sensors only pay attention to the sensors in the upstairs bedrooms at night has greatly increased my family's comfort. And although I previously had a schedule-ready thermostat, the mobile and online portals make scheduling a snap. The Follow Me feature is a plus and allows the system to automatically override your schedule if it senses that you are home when you are scheduled to be "away." Bottom line...I have saved an average of 12% off my energy bills since moving to the ecobee3. The upfront cost may scare you, but the long-term savings are amazing.

GREAT THERMOSTAT - REMOTE SENSORS FTW!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my Ecobee3. I chose it over the Nest and other thermostats because of the remote sensors (one is included in the box!). It works great, and even comes with a kit to get you up and running without a C wire. It's nice to see / change the temperature at home with a couple taps on my smartphone screen; and it's also a breeze to set up schedules.

Not meant for older homes
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My home was built in 1972. The wiring does NOT work with older homes. I called support, they wanted me to open my ac unit and install an item. I was not comfortable because you had to disconnect the power to ac and risk was to great that i could damage something or get shocked

One smart thermostat!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very happy that I chose the Ecobee3 over the Nest! I was planning on getting a Nest, because we bought one for my parents and they really liked it. However, when I went to the store, I saw the Ecobee3 and was intrigued. The support for remote sensors was the deciding factor. Our upstairs is always warmer in the summer and our basement cooler in the winter. Anything to help balance that out better. Later, when I was installing the Ecobee3, I discovered another positive feature that I never knew about when purchasing. I have an older furnace and the previous owners never had the "c" wire run to our thermostat, which is recommended for powering smart thermostats. Nest doesn't have a feature to handle this, so it can mess up your furnace, especially older units. The Ecobee3 came with a converter box that I easily wired to my furnace control board to supply the thermostat with the necessary power. Very convenient! The system is easy to run and I the screen is sharp! Setting up a schedule is very easy, especially if you do it on a computer through the browser. The reports are helpful and the mobile apps run just like the thermostat's interface. I highly recommend!

The Best Thermostat on the Market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ecobee3 is the best thermostat on the market, I purchased it about 9 months ago. It has saved me around 30 to 40 dollars a month on my electric bill. The remote sensors coupled with the sensor priority feature is the key to my savings. As well as the Smart Away feature, My wife has a different work schedule every week. The smartAway feature turns off my AC or heat when no one is home no matter what the schedule says it should do at the moment. Beyond savings, It has also provided peace of mind for my wife and I. We have a 13 month old daughter and her room can get really hot during the day. Knowing what the temperature is in her room when she is sleeping is amazing. We can check her room and give it priority over any other room at night, ensuring it doesnt get too cold in her room in the winter. Definitely the best feature as a Dad. I recommend this thermostat to everyone, including my friends and family. I tell everyone about the Ecobee3 all the time. If you have kids it is a must buy for every parent. If you have a really high electric or gas bill and need to save money, Buy it!!!

THE REAL SMART THERMOSTAT
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was an early adopter of the Nest thermostat, but when I moved to a new house I started assessing what was available in the market since my last research for a smart thermostat. The Ecobee 3 showed up at the top of most searches and review. Upon doing some more research its killer feature are the remote sensors. It actually calibrates the house temperature where it actually matters (where you are!). The house had an X10 type of thermometer so I had to run cables from the HVAC system into the thermostat, but even with that extra work it was a pretty easy installation (took me 1hr) and the guided installation process made it a breeze to set up and getting it working. The device interface is elegant and easy to use. My wife, which doesn't love technology, was able to get to manage it without me even explaining it to her. The apps in all of its formats (web console, phone, tablet, wearable) are really good. I'm really happy with my choice plus it affords you the flexibility to expand the system with other sensors or accessories. If you buy this product you won't regret it!

great savings!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A fairly simple installation even with the requirement of the power extension kit, it took approximately 30 min. Then registration and setting up the iPhone app, and signing into the web portal, I was all set up and ready start saving. The web portal is a great feature to see when and for how long your HVAC equipment has been running, and shows your savings in comparison to using a regular thermostat. There is also a comparison to show you how efficiently your house uses the energy, or wastes it. With that information in hand you will know if you may require a home energy audit. I like the control it gives me without being infant of the thermostat with the mobile app. If you go out when your Ecobee is set to the home setting, once it detects no one is home after 2 hrs it will set itself to away mode, or if you realize you have forgotten to put it in away mode while out, you can use the mobile app to make the setting changes you want. The algorithm is top notch, and since Christmas '14 the unit has almost paid for itself in savings.

Ecobee3 HomeKit enabled
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ecobee3 is great. It has many features and it allows for total control from just about anywhere. It gives you the ability to password control it, so no one can alter your settings. Super easy to install (I did it on my own) and it took less than 5 min. to do so. Customer service is also great and walked me thru one of the wire placements. It's app is easy to work and is super convenient. It also gives you a break down of when the Air/heater is working the hardest and when it is not. The sensors add another level of control for activity or inactivity in the house. It' also HomeKit enabled.

Amazing Smart Thermostat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using the ecobee3 for just about 2 months now and have been extremely happy with my decision. The point of buying a smart thermostat is not only to provide greater customization to your home comfort but also to save on heating and cooling costs. If you are looking into buying one, you probably already know what the main features of the ecobee3 are, so I'll skip those. Instead I'll focus on what drew me to this instead of Nest/Honeywell/others and what my installation experience was like. First off, I just moved into my first house and have been looking into upgrading my Honeywell battery-operated programmable unit. Problem is, I only have 4 wires running from the thermostat to the furnace. I have the standard 5 r/w/g/c/y furnace legs but most Smart Thermostats such as Nest and Honeywell's Lyric need all 5 of those, I only have 4 wires. What was I going to do? (Note: I know Nest say you can get away with just 4 wires but the downside is, to provide the unit power the Nest will run your system fan to get a hit of juice. Not very economical.) Solution: ecobee3 provides a nifty Power Extender Kit (PEK) that takes 4 wires in(mine were r/y/g/w) and converts to 5 wires out (r/y/c/g/w). No power sapping necessary. Installation is simple, though if you are installing using the PEK you should take lots of pictures and use the sticker labels supplied in the kit. Everything is explained thoroughly in the guide but take a moment before getting started and watch the installation videos on ecobee’s website. All together, it took about an hour from start to finish, though that included my kids helping me open everything, teaching my 6 year old son to hold the flashlight on the right spot of the furnace, bedtime with the kids and playing with the user interface. Give yourself a lot less time if you already have five wires running to your old thermostat for a standard furnace & a/c setup. The PEK has about 12” of insulated wire trailing from the end so you should have plenty of slack in case you had my problem. The previous homeowner ran wire from the thermostat to the side of the furnace and cut it there, pigtailed more wire the rest of the roughly 30” to the control board. I had to reroute the wire around to another entry point in the furnace closer to the control board. The PEK got me just close enough to reach the board. Once everything was wired the rest was easy, thermostat wires slide right into pre-labeled slots in the ecobee3 and there's a wall mounting template. You can even use the included plastic collar to cover up any old screw holes from the old thermostat. It look amazing on the wall and wifi setup was a breeze. Overall, it was simple to install and I love checking the online dashboard for how my system is running and even compares my usage against others in my area. The iOS controls are fantastic and yes, I do adjust the temperature from my bed on cold nights and yes, my wife does tell me I'm a nerd. Pros: Looks great on the wall, compliments from friends. Easy to install. Awesome online tools and scheduling is so easy, even for extended vacations. Cons: Kids can't keep their hands off it. (Yes, there is a setting for a secret pin so they can't change the temp. That’s another pro!) iOS apps are occasionally buggy but are getting better all the time. Nothing to ding them for in any major way.

Great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this a while back and can say that I am extremely happy! It has been great from the moment I opened the box! It is packaged well and very elegant. Not only are the directions easy to follow, but once you get a few minutes in and can power on the unit it actually guides you through the initial setup and registration. I use it with SmartThings and integration was seamless. My no tech savvy wife is able to do the basic setting of the temperature if need bee. The thermostat itself has a motion sensor and so does the included remote sensor (as a bonus, they can be added to SmartThings as motion & temperature sensors!) so if set up correctly it will heat/cool occupied room / rooms to the desired / average desired temp. I love it and can see the value! Now I just need to pick up some more remote sensors!

Ecobee3 is in the House!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The announcement of the Generation 3 Nest caused me to reevaluate my thermostat options. I already had spent a year with the Generation 2 Nest which was OK but I wondered about other thermostats and their feature sets. So I started looking at the Ecobee3. In the end I switched to the ecobee3. Just some of the reasons that made me switch. -Ecobee’s remote room temperature and occupancy sensors. -Ecobee’s display which shows the room temperature, outside weather and the HVAC temperature setting. The largest number you see from across the room is the current room temperature. -more user control over your HVAC programming. I think the Nest is designed to be as automated as possible. Nest calls it "the self learning thermostat." I actually turned off that feature in the Nest and kept my user programmed schedule. The Ecobee is just fine with it's user set up programming. -support for Apple’s HomeKit. Which means if you have iOS 9 you can tell Siri the change settings on the Ecobee3. Or ask what the temperature is in your home. Siri will even tell you what temperature the remote sensors are reading. In addition to smartphone apps Ecobee has a nice web interface for programming and checking your home temperature. Plus a much more detailed HVAC usage stats. Probably my only complaint is how the fan is programmed. You can only set it to come on and off all day long for various interval times. I’d like to to run it on a timer. And I wish the plastic on the main display was a bit more of a matte finish. It's a shiny plastic and the reflections can hamper seeing the reading from further away. The display is just fine when you're standing in front of it. I’d say the Gen 3 Nest is still a sexier looking gadget. But in the end it’s function over form and the Ecobee3 is heavy on function so I chose the Ecobee3.

Best Home Improvement Purchase Ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The connectivity, design, ease of use, and remote sensor support for the EcoBee 3 makes it the best home improvement purchase I've made. Due to the upstairs thermostat being located on a small landing outside all 3 bedrooms the rooms were never comfortable. Either the rooms were freezing or boiling while the hall/landing temperature barely changed. The ExoBee 3 easily remedied this issue. I installed the remote sensor in one bedroom and set the unit to ignore the main unit temperature and only control based on the remote sensor temp. This solved everything. Now the rooms are comfortable all day and night. Sleep has improved for me and he kids! Thank you EcoBee!

Nest, who?!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is amazing. I wanted to try a smart thermostat and went back and forth between this and the Nest thermostat. I was initially sold on the Nest, because...well...it's the Nest. Then I saw that this one has sensors that you can place around the house. SOLD. Setup was really easy. The product looks great. It's intuitive and robust. The only issue I had was recently it lost its connection to my network, and I had to unplug the thermostat and plug it back in for it to reconnect. Small inconvenience, but it seems to be working fine again. I strongly recommend this thermostat, especially if you want additional wireless sensors to place around the house.

Best WIFI thermostat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was using nest for last few years, moved to new house, when time came to install new thermostat my first instinct was to get Nest, then i heard about the Ecobee3 with Home Kit compatible, this is the main reason i picked Ecobee3 over Nest, this thermostat have all the features that nest have but better execution, prices is simple just follow the instructions booklet. it took me 30 minutes to install it, i had an open C wire so do not have to use the PEK kit. set up was breeze. i used iPhone to setup it with wifi, it is up and running for a week now. the 2nd sensor feature is really nice. home kit is evolving setup with Apple devices. It could get interesting.

Best thermostat on the planet!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best thermostat I've ever owned. Super easy to use and looks elegant on the wall. Great Thermostat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, I've been very happy with this thermostat. Being able to remotely control my thermostat remotely is very useful. Also, scheduling vacations are a great way to save energy and have the house ready for your return. The HomeKit functionality works well and is the main reason I chose this thermostat over Nest. Using Siri to control the temp works well and ecobee app is exactly like the screen on the actual thermostat. Nice touchscreen, clean design, and easy to use. Love that it displays both inside and outside temp on screen. Sensor works well to determine whether you are home or not and adjusts the temp accordingly based on your preferences. In my opinion, it's the best smart thermostat on the market.

easy to installl, fun to use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is compact, stylish, easy to install, and has some great smart features. My favorite and perhaps the main selling point of this thermostat is its remote sensors. These sensors allow you to use different areas of your home to measure the temperature instead of being limited to the main thermostat. This is not the product's only great feature. It integrates these sensors into a variety of great comfort-enhancing and cost-savings opportunities, allowing only motion-detecting sensors to be active, logic to determine when to start cooling/heating so a desired temperature is achieved at a certain scheduled time, and the ability to move into home or away mode to save money when no one is home. Although there are some features lacking for those who would really like to customize their heating/cooling system, it is a tremendous upgrade to a traditional thermostat with scheduling and perhaps even a fun tool to have in your home.
