Easy to install, very simple to use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I hate thermostats. I have never been able to make them work correctly. I installed this after reading the instructions, or skimming them. It took me more time to turn off the breaker than to install this. Programming it, from my phone, was so easy, I thought maybe I did something wrong. I love that it is home kit compatible, and I would recommend this to anyone, the multiple sensors have really helped me.

Best smart thermostat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best smart thermostat on the market. It is the only one with Apple HomeKit support. Even without HomeKit, nothing comes close in terms of ease of installation and use. Will save you tons, and possible pay for itself in less than 2 years. If you have been considering a smart thermostat, this is the one to buy. One of the best features is the ease of programming weekly schedules. It's very intuitive. Makes changing temperature settings for an entire week just a two-click job. Love it.

Great Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ecobee 3 changes the way you control heating and cooling. Via sensors, Ecobee can see when a room is in use and adjust the temperature to keep you comfortable. The Ecobee will report data that you can see in an easy to use website which tells you why and how it’s keeping you comfortable. Ecobee can be controlled via laptop, computer, phone (Android App & iPhone App), or just about any other web capable device. Ecobee has an easy to use interface with a quality display, interaction, and feel. Ecobee’s sensors provide Ecobee3 data about different rooms allowing Ecobee3 to blend comfort and economy. I added two additional sensors, in addition to the one that comes with Ecobee3, and keep these sensors in rooms that are most occupied. My thermostat is in a hallway between bedrooms and is in a location where we transition frequently, but rarely spend time. Knowing and keeping the temperature in the hallway is of little use. Ecobee is flexible enough that I can “turn off” occupancy and temperature in the hall (where the Ecobee is located) and rely only upon the status of the three rooms with sensors. If we are in one room Ecobee3 keep that room at our ideal comfort. If we are occupying more than one room, Ecobee3 blends the conditions by efficiently operating the heating, cooling, fan, and humidifier. Ecobee operates with the IFTTT service so Ecobee knows when your home & away, control other devices, record data, notify, and many other capabilities via IFTTT recipes. Now with Apple HomeKit integration, Ecobee works with Siri and forthcoming other HomeKit devices. Ecobee is product that is evolving by the manufactures consistent policy of constantly improving and adding new features. Frequent updates keep adding more value thru improving its capabilities and features. Ecobee actively seeks out the opinions of its customer’s thoughts and responds by improving Ecobee3 and integrating new features. I would purchase Ecobee again and am continually impressed with the product and company.

Best little upgrade for multi-story house
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Context: I owned a Nest for a few years, in two different houses, and loved it. It was great to have control on our phones, Auto-Away was an excellent feature for when you left a room, and recent Amazon Echo integration was a nice touch, enabling us to control the thermostat with our voices. I also invested in three Nest Protect smoke detectors for our new house and was fully invested in the Nest ecosystem. Nest is pretty, looks great, and I love the dial-to-adjust nature of the thermostat. After moving to our new house in March 2016 however, I felt a big need for something different and after months of research/digging through helpful and unhelpful reviews (hopefully you find this to be the former), I finally settled on the ecobee3 as my thermostat-of-choice, and am happy to report that it has been one of the best decisions/upgrades to our current house and far superior to the Nest. I know you may be considering different smart thermostat options, and I may speak in compare/contrast terms with the Nest as that is what I know. REVIEW: Like the Nest and other smart thermostats, the ecobee3 is controllable by smartphone, gets its power from being wired in to the wall, has the ability to set schedules for your home/away times and thresholds/limits to how hot or cold it allows your home to get before kicking in, and uses motion sensing to tell if you're home/away - all these are excellent features. The ecobee3 has the ability to set different temperature thresholds for away, daytime, and sleep time. I haven't played with these much yet as we haven't really had a need. I have a two-story house with a finished basement. The thermostat placement is in a much-used hallway on the main floor outside the kitchen. It's pretty good placement for a thermostat that depends/integrates/relies upon motion sensors to drive temperature or home/away settings, though it's not near as high-trafficked area as placement in my previous house. In my experience with Nest, the thermostat was never the greatest at detecting when my wife and I were "home" versus "away". Thankfully, we never had the experience where the thermostat thought we were away when we were actually home, but I often noticed that the Nest's "auto-away" feature wasn't triggering. This was especially frustrating given that both my wife and I have Android smartphones with location settings and Google Now integration with Nest (owned by Google's parent company Alphabet), yet the Nest remained blissfully ignorant of our location on any given day, even if our phones were connected to the SAME WIFI network as the thermostat. While the ecobee3 doesn't track our phones and we set it to "away" manually still (nothing changed in our routine, as we had been doing the same with the Nest), the ecobee3 does track when we are home/away much better, due to its sensor integrations which also have motion sensors. So, not only does ecobee3 know if we're home, it also knows which floor of the house we are on. The greatest "issue" we've had in both our houses was the temperature difference among floors. Upstairs (where the bedrooms are) is too cold, the basement (where the entertainment system is) is too cold, and the main floor (where the... food? is?) is just right and matches what the thermostat is set to. With Nest, I found myself cranking the heat to try to get upstairs a little warmer and it never seemed to happen. We have two sensors with the ecobee3 - one upstairs and one downstairs. The most excellent thing about the sensors is the ecobee3 does its best to get the temperature to a 'median' point of where the motion is. While this has resulted in me being much warmer than desired on the main floor, I'll take that to not being able to sleep because our master bedroom is (literally) 10-15 degrees colder than the main floor. Since getting the ecobee3 and sensors, our master bedroom is MUCH more comfortable. You might say "well I don't want my heat running all the time" and I get it. However, I find myself adjusting the thermostat not near as much as I did with the Nest. I don't wake up at 3am freezing anymore to pick up my phone and boost the heat. The Beauty of the Sensors (and where Nest falls short): The ecobee3 sensors detect motion and temperature. When it detects motion, it runs heat/ac until the temperature hits a median point. So, if I have the thermostat set to 70 and it's 60 upstairs, when motion is upstairs it will run heat until upstairs is roughly 65. This means the main floor gets to be around 73, but it hasn't been awful. My only complaint has been when I run upstairs quickly it may end up cranking the heat for a couple minutes because there was a blip of motion, but it's an extremely minor complaint. THIS is where I actually got mad at Nest. As I previously stated, I have three Nest Protect smoke/CO2 detectors - one for each floor of my house. Nest Protect detects smoke, CO2, humidity, and TEMPERATURE. Oh, and motion (the little nightlight on the Protect is my favorite little feature, to be honest). However, even with a Nest thermostat and Nest smoke detectors, the Nest Protect DOES NOT and WILL NOT 'talk' to the Nest thermostat for... reasons? There is literally nothing the ecobee3 remote sensors do that the Nest Protects can't do, yet Nest has not yet figured out how to do the same thing WITHIN THEIR OWN ECOSYSTEM. It's been 3 or 4 years since Nest released their smoke detectors yet they still haven't figured it out. I know that's not long in the scheme of things but... really? The fact that Nest hasn't even acknowledged this as a 'could come one day' feature shows that the company doesn't have its own best interests in mind, and I was sick of waiting. I still think Nest makes a great product, but it's not the best if your thermostat isn't in a central location or you have a multi-story house. I truly hope Nest figures out how to make their own products integrate with each other more, but my guess is Google will kill Nest and wrap its products in to the Google Home ecosystem before that happens. IN SUMMARY: If you have a multi-story house, the ecobee3 remote sensors are a must-have and will far outshine any other smart thermostat on the market. It also has an always-on display (Nest does not) so you can see what the temperature is at any time. The only thing I don't like is the occasional thermostat change due to a moment of motion on the sensor and the fact that the touch-screen is glass so it's a fingerprint/smudge grabber, but those are tiny first world problem-level complaints and not near big enough to knock even half a star. Get a bee.

Love my Ecobee3!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the Ecobee3 HomeKit edition for over a month now and overall I am very satisfied. The initial installation process is very straightforward. I only had two minor issues. First, my wires weren't seated fully into the slots so they weren't making good contact. I had to take them all back out, strip off more insulation, and make sure they were fully seated. Then everything started up fine. Secondly, during the initial setup wizard, it asked me a question about my reversing switch on my Heat pump that I didn't really know the answer two. I figured at worst case it would heat rather than cool which would be pretty obvious and then I could just choose the other of the two options. I left it at default which turned out to be the right setting anyway. There is a bit of a learning curve with the thermostat as everything didn't work exactly how I expected from reading the getting started guide. The biggest thing that took me a bit to figure out is that with Follow me on, sensors are gradually added and removed from the temperature average. I expected this to happen instantly, so when it didn't I assumed something was wrong. The sensor state icons can also be a bit confusing. Even if a room is showing unoccupied (and has been for hours#, if it is included in the current comfort setting it will still be used at least a bit in the temperature average #and will show black, not white#. To completely ignore a sensor you have to remove it from the Comfort Profile completely. For the sensors, I used mounting putty #sticky tack# rather than screws. I highly recommend this as it may take some trial and error to find the best spot to place them. I have moved mine around a couple of times. I also moved mine down to about three feet off the ground rather than the recommended five in some rooms. This allows my 2 year old son to register movement. Be sure to point them toward the area of the room that sees the most activity to prevent the thermostat from going into Auto Away. The app is well done and I haven't had any issues with it really. They have been battling some service issues recently but they are taking steps to fix that. The company has experienced explosive user growth lately so I can give them some grace on that. If This Then That integration is very cool and works well overall. I use Life360 to trigger away mode when all members of the family leave the house #geofencing). This doesn't always work but this is a Life360 issue, not Ecobee's fault. I have had a couple of interactions with both technical and order support and was always very pleased with the service. They resolved my issues promptly. To sum up, I love the thermostat and would certainly purchase it again. Our last electric bill was $70 less than the previous year, even though the average temperature was a couple of degrees higher. I can't credit all of that to the Ecobee but I have no doubt it is saving us cash each and every month.

Looks Great, Works Well, Easy to Install
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Smart thermostats have always piqued my interest but I never had a compelling reason to pick one up until now. With the addition of a baby (and a new SmartThings hub), being able to monitor and control the temperature at home became much more appealing. I looked at other options from Nest and Honeywell, but the design, extra sensor, and positive word of mouth made the ecobee3 my eventual choice. The product was well packaged, easy to install, and the setup process was smooth. The only hiccup I ran into came from the empty space created by the 1 gang electrical box behind my old thermostat. Because the base of the ecobee3 only screws in at the top and bottom, I needed the large trim plate (which was included), touch up paint, creative positioning, and double sided tape to mount it without having to do a time consuming repair of the wall. If the base had screw holes on the sides, the installation would have been even faster, but I can't complain about the results. It looks fantastic and draws plenty of attention. I also like that the screen can be set to sleep/turn off after a certain amount of time, and it wakes up automatically when someone steps in front of it. Besides the huge improvement in looks compared to my old programmable thermostat, functionality is vastly expanded as well. Integration with SmartThings was a breeze, and the included temperature/motion sensor, combined with my existing sensors, allows me to adjust temperature based on the occupied room(s). It's great being able monitor the temperature around my house while at work, and I haven't had any issues controlling or adjusting the ecobee3 through SmartThings or the mobile app. All that's left now are the usage reports/analytics, which aren't available until after the first calendar month. Can't wait to see what they tell me!

Best smart thermostat on the Market.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had my ecobee3 for 6 months now and absolutely love the features and ease of use this thermostat has. I had to contact customer support on two different occasions, the support team was more than helpful, I can't even begin to explain how refreshing it was to have good quality customer service support. Since my purchase, two of my family members have also invested in the Ecobee3. If you're in the market for a smart thermostat, the exobee3 is you're best choice.

Beat Smart Thermostat on the Market!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Ecobee3 beats its competitions (specifically the Nest) by having both greater reliability and more functionality. Nest doesn't (and most likely never will) have Homekit functionality, and Nest will not have the useful sensor functionality that Ecobee3 has unless they do yet another hardware update. Ecobee3 also seems to listen to their customers and continually update the software with requested features. All in all a great product!

Ecobee3 - Best Thermostat on the Market Today
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best thermostat ever. Having wireless remote sensors to measure temperature and occupancy is awesome. I also love that I can set which sensors to look at during which time periods. For example, during sleep mode, I have my ecobee3 only look at the bedroom sensor. That way if the bedroom is warm enough, my heater doesn't turn on to heat the rest of the house! Awesome idea. The "Smart Recovery" feature is also very impressive. In the morning, it gets the temperature of the house up to my set point BY the time selected, instead of a typical thermostat which turns the heat on right at that time and doesn't reach it until some time later. For example, say I set the temp to go up fro 65 to 70 at 7 AM. The Ecobee3 will come on as early as it needs to (based on what it has learned about my system, current weather, indoor temp etc) in order to get to exactly 70 right at 7 AM. That's impressive. What's more, Ecobee3 has learned that I have radiators, which give off considerable heat after the furnace shuts down. Ecobee3 has learned this and actually uses this to it's advantage. It will usually turn the furnace on and off a couple times when bringing the heat up, which saves energy and money because the radiators are still hot during the off time. For those who know, this is similar to the "pulse-and-glide" technique that hyper-milers use to get incredibly high gas mileage. I also love the smart home/away settings, which can adjust the temperature automatically if you are away during a time when you are normally home (or vice versa). All around an awesome thermostat that makes you more comfortable and saves money.

Best Thermostat Ever !
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Thermostats didn't change much for decades. Programmable models came along and added scheduling. "Smart" thermostats are significantly more capable than programmables, and the ecobee3 is the smartest of the bunch. "Auto" mode negates the need to switch between cool and heat modes. Set the desired temperature range for as many timelines as you want and the ecobee does the rest. Remote sensors (one included in the base model# allow monitoring of the temperature in various locations other than just where the thermostat is located, allowing precise temperature control of the rooms you occupy throughout the day and night. Apple Homekit integration allows the ecobee to be an integral part of your "smart home" if you are ready to take that step. Installation is a breeze and Setup is straightforward. Help #if required# is readily available by telephone, email, or a very active online forum. Additional wireless remote sensors #I think the limit is 32) are sold in packs of two. You can even participate on the ecobee forums and "win" prizes, including sets of remote sensors. If you are in need of a new thermostat, I highly recommend the ecobee and suggest you read as many reviews as possible. I suspect you will end up with the ecobee.

Easy installation, great for home comfort
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was very easy to setup, with a great set of instructions. It has everything you need to set it up on multiple different types of systems, whether your existing setup has power running to the thermostat or not. It took about 20 minutes to setup and wire since I was being careful. The remotes available with this system are a great feature since it allows you to monitor the temperature and ensure comfort across multiple areas of the home. I initially just picked up the kit with a single sensor included, but I have actually picked up 2 additional remotes that I am going to add on for a couple more rooms. The Smart Home/Away feature is great for my schedule since between my wife and I we have schedules that vary from day to day, so my Ecobee doesn't have to be reprogrammed manually if it doesn't detect any occupancy when people should be home, it switches itself to away, and it works the other way too. Follow Me is great, but you need sensors around for it to read occupancy from, that way it will base the temperature on the occupied areas of the house. For me this make a difference because I have a two story house, and the upstairs tends to run warmer than downstairs. So in winter if nobody is downstairs the thermostat ignores the temp from that sensor and focuses on the comfort level upstairs. It also integrates with HomeKit so Siri can control my heating and cooling too! This is nice because I share the HomeKit access with my wife so she can access it through hers as well. I have had it for three months at this point, and I can honestly say I made the right choice!

Excellent...better than Nest!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great product! I previously had a Nest that was supposed to work without a C wire. Unfortunately, after they did a software update about 1 year ago, my A/C started to have problems. It would call for cooling and the unit outside would turn on and run constantly but the fan inside would not blow. I had 2 service visits and the A/C company stated they had had several other issues with Nest Thermostats just like I was having. Enter the Ecobee. I was able to install it with the included PEK as I don't have a C wire. It was easy to install and in total took about 30 minutes from start to finish. I've had it for just over a week now and it has been working great! It is much more customizable than the Nest. Definitely worth the investment.

What do you want to know about your house?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ecobee, the product and the company does a great job getting into how your house is consuming power. There interfaces are friendly and easily navigated and their online community can answer anything you would possibly want to know about getting the most out of the Ecobee and also the most money back in energy savings. I made the jump into a smarter home six months ago and the Ecobee has saved me half of the initial cost of the product. Try finding a "green" product with that kind of payback period! I feel more empowered to how I am using electricity in my house and what decision I make that directly relate to energy waste or savings. The company doesn't stop interacting when you purchase the thermostat. They have a great set of resources online to track your usage and also ask questions and learn more about other new smart home technologies that are other companies like Ecobee. It is a lifestyle change for the good! Works great with my iPhone!

Best connected thermostat on the market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am extremely happy with my ecobee3. It connects to a number of different home automation infrastructures (smartthings, homekit to name a few), has support for remote sensors so you can set which rooms you wan to check the temp in for each comfort setting, or average them all, has a beautiful interface, and was super easy to install. Ecobee3 already has all the features that the Nest 3 just came out with,

Remote sensors are a game changer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here are my conclusions after 6 months of use. Once you have a thermostat with remote sensors, you will wonder why it took this many decades for someone to think of integrating them. Not only are they sensing occupancy in different areas of your home, they are logging temperature. My wife and I occupy different areas of the house during different periods of the day. With remote sensors, I can customize my system to maintain the temperature in each area that has a sensor. Example, during the day when we are in the main living space, we use the temperature reading on the main unit. During the evening when we retire to the family room in the basement, it uses the sensor located down there. At bedtime, it uses the sensor in the bedroom. I enjoy being able customize the settings for a truly optimal living environment. The ecobee3 gives you the information you need to do this because it is constantly collecting data. If you are like me and like to be able to see what your system is doing, you will have plenty of data points to look at. This is hands-down the best thermostat on the market, you won't be disappointed. ** For those of you wondering if you can install it yourself, I found that the installation was very straight forward, follow the included instructions and if you have a "normal" HVAC setup you shouldn't have any issues. Total install time in my case was five minutes.

getting better and better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In just the short month and a half I've owned the ecobee3 I've really enjoyed using it and watching the functionality grow. I can choose to set up my schedule and forget it all together and let "follow me" work it's magic whenever the sensor detect I've left home outside my normal schedule or come back early to optimize my savings per month and increase my comfort while at home. I can also load daily and monthly reports to compare my usage and compare it to what others in my state are also seeing. Currently I use IFTTT to set my thermostat to away whenever the last family leaves the house, or resume when the first family member comes home. I find this workaround to built-in geofencing to be a little buggy and the recipes do not always fire. I'm hoping ecobee will listen to its members and build in local geofencing support in the future. While I've used the homekit siri functionality briefly just to test if it works or not, I can say that sire recommends the list of commands and will execute them pretty consistently. Other home kit devices also recognize my ecobee and can control the temperature. I'm waiting for home kit to mature to see what future automation the ecobee will be able to incorporate. They've also partnered with harmony remotes which I recently purchased. While I don't currently use the remote software to control the thermostat I'm happy that ecobee is partnering with other big name venders to make their product better.

Love it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Checking for compatibility was simple, just go to Ecobee's website and enter the wires you see on your current thermostat and it tells you what needs to be done to get it to work. Install was simple and easy, just document the wires you have with the labels provided and then plug them into the Ecobee mount. Setup was as simple as following the prompts, and to add sensors you remove the battery tab and follow the instructions on the Ecobee. I've seen a noticeable change in temperatures around the house holding closer to the set value, upstairs is warmer. A room that was usually 4-6 degrees off is now 1-2 degrees off. Went and got more sensors after seeing this and notice the change in other rooms as well. Finally feel I have a solution to the bad HVAC design of the builders.
