What is there to dislike? Nothing. Easy to purchase thanks to Best Buy. Easier to set up. And, even easier to use because it works exactly as advertised. A win, win, win.

I've had an ecobee thermostat for years and I'm on my third one purchased in January 2025. I started having problems about 18 months ago with its geofencing capabilities a feature that was very important to me. I spend many hours on the phone trying to resolve the issue, and in the end support advised that maybe I need a new thermostat. I bought the latest generation ecobee, upgraded my home hub, reinstalled everything, only to continue to have the same problem. They were very anxious to blame the issue on Apple; however, I have other products that use the same geofence with no problem. I gave up on the geofencing, and thought I'd try the eoo+ feature to work around the home and away settings. That has been a disaster with completely unreliable responses and actions together with ecobee being plagued with frequent system issues. The app itself also has a very tedious design. It's a shame. I used to love my ecobee, but now I'm looking into the competitor.

Love the sensor. Found out that there is a 5 degree difference between our bedroom and hallway.

I replaced a 1000 dollar trane 1050xl that kept overheating with this and it has ran great. I just turned off the eco stuff because I want what I want when I want it.

My Google nest was going out, and my HVAC technician suggested the ecobee. This thing has been nothing but a headache. The settings were way to complicated. I got this in the summer and after multiple attempts to get the settings correct, I wound up paying another $200 just to have my technician come out and set it up for me. Afterwards it functioned as it should and the house was finally cool again. Fast forward to winter, I don't use dual settings, now my thermostat is all wonky again. The thermostat will show it's 70 in the house but it's freezing. So, I thought ok, just adjust the minus and plus in the settings to get it to read properly. Nope! Still, it will show the inside temp is 70 but it's still freezing in the house. I will set the heat to 72 to get the heat to kick on and 10 - 15 minutes later it's getting toasty; I look at my thermostat, and it now reads 67. So, tell me how the reading goes from 70 to 67 with the heat running and the house pretty clearly being warmer. At this point I'm not sure I want to spend another $200 to have a technician come out to work on it. I'm going to try taping the little hole where the wires come out of the wall and see if it works. If not, this thing is getting donated and can become someone else's problem. Thanks ecobee for all the money I've wasted.

I really don't understand how this thermostat is so popular. For a device that's so customizable, it sure does tie your hands with certain features. The big dealbreaker for me was not having the ability to just select the remote sensor as the target temperature without configuring comfort settings and then waiting 30 minutes for it to slowly change to it. It left me sweating to death in bed because it just decided on its own to disable Sleep mode. You can't turn off the display without having the thermostat be a part of the sleep comfort setting, which defeats the purpose since I don't want my living room, which is several degrees cooler, to factor in to my sleep comfort. The automatic threshold staging is a joke. It doesn't ever learn anything and just short cycles the HVAC equipment. It doesn't cool slightly past your set point like most other thermostats so... more short cycling. The app is incredibly slow to update changes. I just expected more from a $250 device that claims to be so customizable. Maybe I'm just too used to how my Nest works and having the ability to select the remote sensor and have the HVAC respond to it immediately. My Nest will also learn how quickly or slowly my house is warming up or cooling off and adjusts accordingly to create efficient cycles. The Nest app also updates immediately when there is a change at the thermostat.
