As a huge fan of the HBO series of Game of Thrones and someone who enjoys Soulsborne games, this was a must buy for me. I think players will be surprised by the amount of content to this game. When you think you’re getting to the endgame, you aren’t. This is easily FromSoftware’s best game to date. If you didn’t like Soulsborne games before this probably won’t change your mind. That said, it is far more approachable because of the staggering amount of content. In previous titles, if you were stuck on a boss, you we’re stuck until you beat them. In Elden Ring, if you can’t get past a boss, go do something else. Grab a few levels doing something else and come back later. Because there is so much to do in this game, I recommend everyone grab a legal pad or use the notes in your phone and take notes! I cannot stress this enough, especially for newcomers to Soulsborne games. It’s impossible to remember all the different quest lines going on simultaneously. If you forget about one questline, you may be missing out on the reward from the one NPC that will help you on a super hard boss! That is just one of the many ways that exploration is so important. Even while taking notes to remind yourself what you are doing I guarantee you are gonna see something cool in the distance, change your plan and 3 hours later remember you were trying to do something else. Almost a month after release, and 115 hours played, I still haven’t completed the game. There is still an enormous amount of content that I haven’t done. I can still pick a direction with my valiant steed, Torrent, to go find new caves, ruins, catacombs, and plenty more bosses and mini bosses. Cons (for some folks): As for graphical fidelity, this isn’t the greatest looking game of all-time. It is the best looking Soulsborne game, by far. If you’re expecting God of War, or Horizon Forbidden West, this isn’t it. It still has some breathtakingly beautiful areas. Seeing giant gothic castles in the distance (that you will go to and explore later) are some of the most beautiful things in any video game. If you are expecting the same old Ubisoft open world with very specific directions in your journal, this isn’t it. FromSoft wants you to figure it out. Some people won’t be used to, or like that aspect. This is a truly immense open world game like you’ve never seen before, with a great story, emotion, and fantastic characters to meet along the way. It has turned into my favorite game of all-time. I highly recommend.

    Great Open World Game

I'm continuously impressed by From's ability to nail their first attempt at an open world game. Much like Breath of the Wild before it, and unlike so many open world games from the likes of WB and Ubisoft, this game understands the joys of organic discovery via exploration. Your map isn't littered with icons and check boxes of things to do, but rather what you've already found. I find this to be so much more rewarding. As a veteran of their games, I do find this one to be much more forgiving than past titles. There's more checkpoints and tools at your disposal for dealing with the game's challenges. Of course, very little of this is clearly explained and you may have to look it up, but that's par for the course with these game's and consistent with their assumption that the player doesn't need to have their hand held. They've also done a great deal to broaden the number of viable builds, which gives you plenty of reason to experiment and try new things.

An excellent game with a huge open world. I usually dont like open worlds but this one was fun to explore with lots of hidden secrets, bosses, armor, weapons, spells, etc. Combat is faster than previous souls titles but you are given a wide array of attack and defensive tools at your disposble. If you feel like youre struggling, you could always summon a friend to help you on your journey. Good luck, the game is tough but rewarding and does not always hold your hand. So get ready for a grand adventure of the decade; dont forget theres a reason why this game won game of the year.

Not only one of the best games of 2022, but one of the greatest games ever made. The combat is highly customizable and addicting. It's a difficult game but by its nature of being open world it allows you to go and explore when you hit a wall with a boss or area that is giving you trouble. This makes the game much more accessible for people of all skill ranges and that's something that should be commended. Elden Ring is as hard or as easy as you make it depending on play style. The exploration in the game is fantastic and you are constantly rewarded with great loot around every corner and in every nook and cranny. I can't recommend this game enough. Pick this game up as soon as you can, it's an unforgettable experience.

A very punishing game that tests your patience and critical thinking skills. The best advice I can give to gamers who are playing a Souls type game for the first time, TAKE YOUR TIME and level up your character! Elden Ring has a lot of freedom. For example, the first boss that you encounter before your reach the castle is very difficult. You can either continue to fight him to eventually defeat him or explore the land to fight enemies and level up your stats before going back. The story straight forward but the lore is in the armor, handwritten notes, and items you find throughout the game. The merchants you encounter have a unique backstory that you can uncover simply by purchasing their cooking recipes and reading their notes. This will lead to a secret ending in the game, so keep an eye out for that!

Elden Ring is a truly remarkable open-world action-RPG! I’m not even a big fan of FromSoft’s Soulsborne games, but I’m absolutely loving Elden Ring. I think it takes the good parts of the Soulsborne games (great atmosphere, art design, level design and interesting lore) and mostly eliminates the bad parts (they can be frustrating and repetitive). Elden Ring still has very challenging gameplay, but the open world means that if you get stuck, you can go somewhere else instead of being replaying the exact same section dozens of times in a row. Elden Ring’s exploration is also really wonderful, it really gives a sense of discovery, instead of the more “checklist” style of open world in some games (Ubisoft games come to mind). Elden Ring is certainly the early game of the year candidate for me.

There is a whole lot of content both lands and caves and castles and tunnels and cool stuff to find. It is easy to get over leveled. It is the easiest of the games from this developer. The bosses are cool, but no one is as fun to fight as orphan of kos, or lady maria. None of the bosses are as good as many of the old games but a lot of the things this game strives for it achieves. Many of the duo fights suffer from just not having as solid mechanics are ornstein and smough. You can do crazy damage have crazy health, online is iight when it works. It’s hard to put this on a scale because it is so easy as far as these games go, but has the same frustrating platforming that we all know and hate.

This is the first FromSoftware game I have been able to fully enjoy (I missed Sekiro, but probably would have liked that one too). Before this I've liked the gameplay of Bloodborne and other Souls games, but this one is cool because I'm free to explore. The older games were more linear, if you were stuck on something you were STUCK ON IT FOR A LONG TIME. With this one I can come across a hard boss and decide to go try something else and come back later when I feel like I can handle it. If you don't like tough games don't get this.

The dark fantasy genre finally has a proper open world game. Everything it offers you is of high quality. The combat, exploration, crafting, npcs, story, lore, environments, level designs, and so on are all magnificently amazing. Honestly calling this game a masterpiece is an understatement. You will feel like you went through an odyssey by the time you feel satisfied with it. I say that last part since I platinumed the game at 132 hours and I still have plenty of things I can do in it. Elden Ring is a absolute must play for this generation of gaming that will be talked about for decades to come.

A From Software title that feels designed for universal experience. As a newcomer to the Souls games, the ease into Elden Ring's difficulty and the openness of the world and play styles gives you the freedom to approach every challenge in a variety of ways, while also letting you explore and continue growing in case the foes in your path are too strong for you currently. It's the best game I've played in a long time, and one of the most beautiful landscapes and narrative adventures I've ever had in the medium. A must play.

This game is very impressive just from the start. Stepping into this world for the first time truly feels like your adventure is begun and an adventure it is. From the combat, boss design, and probably one of the best open worlds we have ever seen this is a must-buy. The only gripe is this game is a little difficult at the start especially if you have never played a souls game before but get past the curve and you won't regret it.

Elden Ring is Probably the closest thing to a “perfect” open world game available on the market today. Elden Ring is the latest From Soft release and it plays much like their past Soulsborne series; use varied weaponry and minimal clues to traverse the environment and kill difficulty enemies, piecing together the lore using item descriptions, context clues and NPC dialogue. It’s a formula that works and is made better by the new open world layout of the map. From the very minute you start the game you are able to travel in any direction and do basically whatever you want. There is just enough guidance to point you where you need to go but it is loose enough that you can decide to face challenges your way and in the order in which you’d prefer. The difficulty of the game is notorious but never feels unfair. As for performance, gaming has never looked and felt better and the PS5 does a great job keeping up with the fluid movements of the games characters and environments. Downsides to me are no special implementations of Dualsense haptics or adaptive triggers, but that may be a lot to ask of a third party multi platform game; also the lack of a quest journal, while understandable, makes the game less than manageable If you take a few days off to get some sunshine (not that you’ll want to). Overall I’m it’sa 4.5/5 for me, leaning towards a 5. New players will benefit from using the new AI and Co-Op options and OG Souls heads will enjoy creating builds that are cool and competitive.

Amazing game. First game in years I’ve played that I can’t stop talking or thinking about. I spend all day at work waiting to go home to play more. The game is open world so unlike previous FromSoftware games If you’re stuck on a boss you can just leave and come back fresh. Few games have nailed the open world experience like this game. The open world is extremely natural and seamless. Everything is driven by your own interest. NPC interaction are typical FS but still natural and seamless. There’s no handholding in this game. But having the whole world available to you right at the beginning makes story progression very easy. Some reviewers online have mentioned performance issues with the PS5 version of this game and I promise you it’s not nearly as bad as it may seem. Yes there are dips. Yes some times it feels like the frame rate dips into the 30s-40s but for the most part it is a very smooth experience. It is very much a MOSTLY 60fps experience with most frame drops occurring when you enter a new area or fast travel. I’ve beat over 20 bosses and never once noticed the frame rate fall below 55FPS. I gave the game 5 stars. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty darn close.
